I keep my eyes open and I keep the room filled with smoke
if u need me I’ll be up in the branches
I’m with the stars like i’m dancing

A wonderful downtempo trip-hop track from the great DJ Krush, Japan’s master of chilled out beats. I prefer this bonus vocal mix of this classic as I think that Esthero’s voice really helps bring it all together and blends well with that icy piano riff. Excellent stuff from DJ Krush as always.

I wanted to post something chill today, and where better a place to start than the chillwave genre? This is Odesza (named after a sunken ship) and they’re a musical duo from Washington state. I’ve heard a lot of music from this group, albeit rather accidentally, and simply can’t deny there’s definitely something hypnotic, dreamy and uplifting about their catalog. This is one of those bands that keeps on finding me rather than the other way around. I’ll go months at a time without hearing any of their tunes and then one will come up randomly on a streaming service like Pandora, which I always seem to enjoy. This group is big on remixes, and I’m usually not big posting remixes because, to me, it’s literally the easiest thing you can do with music. All it takes is the altering, removing, adding or subtracting of something to create a ‘new’ product that you generally didn’t create in the first place. But Odesza seems to add a little magic to their remixes, and there’s certainly nothing wrong with a good old fashioned mash-up in art, media or even for extended play purposes to re-introduce more novelty value into something. This is also a group that has been very successful despite limited radio airplay and much mainstream press, making them a group that has been triumphant simply because of the quality of their tunes and no other significant factors other than touring. This is Pretty Lights from their 2013 electronica album A Color Map of the Sun. Smash play and enjoy, and don’t be surprised if afterward you start hearing their tracks appear randomly on the internet until you finally break down and listen to a full album. There really is something distinctly synchronistic about their music.
