Work, work, work.
It was a cold and rainy night, and Alexander was sitting at home, working in his office while his family was in the living room watching a movie. At some point, his wife, Eliza, came into his office with a fresh cup of coffee. “Darling.” She said as she set the mug down on the desk. “Are you going to come out and join us at some point?” Alexander pursued his lip. “I need to get this done, dear, but I’ll be done in time to put Philip to bed, okay?” Eliza left with a nod. “Work, work, work…” She mumbled as she headed back down the hall towards the living room. “Is he coming?” Philip asked as Eliza entered the room. “No, Philip, but he’ll be here for bedtime.” Philip sighed. “Alright..” About forty-five minutes later, the power went out. “Shit..” Alexander groaned and got up from his desk, followed by the sound of a few of his joints popping back into place. He turned on the flash light on his phone then headed down the hall to check on his family. When he entered the room, Eliza was holding a shaking Philip. “What’s wrong, buddy?” Alexander asked as he walked over to help comfort him. Philip didn’t say anything. “He’s scared of the dark,” Eliza said as she wrapped a blanket around Philip. “I see. Well, I think that I’ve got an idea.” Alexander said with a smile. He sat down on the couch and cuddled up with his family, wrapping the blanket around all of them. “Better, Philip?” Alexander asked. Philip nodded slowly, followed by a quiet yawn. After an hour passed by, Alexander and his family had all fallen asleep on the couch, happily and peacefully. Until there was a knock at the door. “Alexander?” A woman’s voice called out. “Fuck…” Alexander mumbled.
