The U.N. frequently measures gender inequalities of countries using the Gender Inequality Index (GII). The scale is small, from 0 to 1 – a score of 0 means men and women are truly equal, whereas a score of 1 means women fare poorly in every way possible. NOTE: the U.N. has yet to find a country where women are treated as well as the men – at best, women have achieved near-equality with men in some countries.
The U.S. has a score of .189, and it has changed relatively little in the past decade.
Additionally, the adolescent fertility rate is used to measure the number of births per 1,000 young women ages 15-19. Usually, developed countries have a rate of 16 births per 1,000 – the adolescent fertility rate in the U.S. is 21 per 1,000, which is twice as high as most European countries and Canada (which has a GII of .092, by the way), and is mostly prevalent among African American and Hispanic women. The reason behind this is attributed to lack of economic opportunities for young women, especially those of minorities.

Hi there! My name is Mary. I’m 23. I’m a senior in college and I’m planning on becoming a substance abuse counselor. I’m looking to talk to new people and make new friends outside of my friend group.
Some of my hobbies include reading, writing, watching movies, and listening to music. I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan. I generally listen to alternative rock and pop but I’m open to other genres. I love horror movies and romantic comedies. I’m one of the few people that actually likes talking about politics and current events (as long as it’s a friendly discussion). I’m very shy and introverted but I open up more once I get to know someone.
I’d love to hear from anyone. If you’re interested in talking you can send me a message on tumblr: she-rose-slowly
