I just came from outside. It’s raining, the garden looks peaceful dressed in the gentle tones of green.
I feel the raindrops on my face, my back, my hands while I’m picking strawberries.
Things are not perfect but this moment is great and so so so grounding.
what i’ve been thinking about this week…
- dusty, grassy roads bordered by rickety signs and metal windmills.
- breezy, mellow Southern towns that sit at the sides of those roads.
- fields of sunflowers and canola and wheat.
- wood-panelled farmhouses with large verandas where families eat breakfast every morning.
- old recipe books with lots of turkey and parsnips and apples and cream.
- red checkered shorts and white gypsy blouses.
- thick brown hair tied in ribbons.
- pie contests at the county fair.
- the kinds of lives you see in dallas, the waltons, schitt’s creek and little house on the prairie.
springtime bike rides ft some pretty foxglove 👒🌿
Three baby chilli plants arrived yesterday! We have a baby razzmatazz, black pearl and prairie fire.
I’m so excited for these little guys to grow.
Imagine waking up early in the morning to make these with your lover.
5/30/20- Carrots are growing! Very small, but definitely growing. So we have pumpkins, squash, tomatoes, snow peas, broccoli, carrots, and green beans all growing steadily. That’s everything in the raised bed. The tomato plant flowers are blooming, which is exciting. Zucchini and cucumbers are growing pretty well, and our sunflowers have sprouted.
Now for the less great stuff- we spent all morning weeding 30+ (not even an exaggeration) maple tree sprouts out of our raised bed, the strawberries are still struggling (there are a few tiny sprouts, but they aren’t nearly as green as at first, and they haven’t grown at all) plus there was a massive spider in with them which could not climb out on her own… Rescuing her was mildly terrifying. We’re still unsure about the two trees in the back of our yard; I am 99% sure our big tree is a maple, and we hope the two smaller trees give us some black walnuts in the fall.
Overall, I know there are people who prefer the indoors; air conditioning and comfy couches and TV. I do too, but nothing really improves my mood like this. Yeah, there’s mud clumped on my hands (though the clay texture is almost soothing) and I’ve poked myself with sticks/thorns more times than I can count just this morning, but the dew, the sunlight, the green all just make me happy. It’s already been a good day and it’s not even 9 in the morning ❤️🌱

sheepishly takes out these from back pocket
I bought 100 envelopes. Now I can spam people the old fashion way. Sending mock polaroids and dried flowers from my garden.
last month I foraged some wild garlic and made a delicious pesto
Picked some flowers from the side of the road on my morning walk today ^.^
