can we just talk about how amazing jean milburn is as a character?
we have this very multilayered character with her own issues, who is trying to work through them and make a go of it in a monogamous relationship with a man she clearly loves, despite being absolutely petrified of commitment and emotional intimacy. i love that the show is dealing with an older pregnancy too and the discrimination that older women can face as a result of it. i just love how jean speaks openly about how it was her choice to have this baby, despite knowing her options, but she felt like keeping the baby was right for her. pregnancy aside, i also loved seeing jean supporting aimee with the trauma of her sexual assault and michael, in the aftermath of his marriage ending. i adore her friendship with maureen and i’m so glad that season 3 continued to build on that, as they’re really great together! i am interested to see how the paternity results play out, but ultimately i’m just so ready for jean and baby joy scenes. 💞

Dousei Yankee Akamatsu Seven:
This is the first manga by Shoowa that I have read and I am already in love. First of all, the art style is amazing. I found myself pausing at some of the faces and profiles she drew many many times. There is also the fact that when I compare it with old BL manga I used to read as a teen, this is a vast improvement. Characters are actually identifying as queer, and the manga also deals with coming out and family acceptance.
The plot starts pretty simple: Akamatsu is a high school student with a lot of pent up energy, and who enjoys a good fight. Since he met Seven in the park, they meet sort of regularly to fight and Akamatsu keep coming up until he finally can win. When he finds out that Seven is homeless, he asks him to be his new roommate, while he finds a job and a new place to stay.
The plot starts very soft and sweet but gets pretty dark by volume 3. Also... apparently it is finished at 3 volumes? But I doubt that as the third volumes end up on a cliffhanger. The relationship was the best part of the manga, and the art. I´ll add the warnings under cut, just know that it´s more similar to Banana Fish than what it looks like at the beginning.
I am definetely keeping an eye out for all the rest of Shoowa´s manga!
Warnings for: non-con scenes, prostitution, human trafficking

i hate when people ask me what my fav book is cause i never know what to say. my first thought is to say blue lily lily blue but then i might have to explain the plot and that’s obviously a no go. then i think ari and dante but then i get worried that the person i’m talking to is secretly homophobic and i get too scared to say it. my next thought is the foxhole court which is a terrible answer for obvious reasons. i always end up saying the book thief cause it seems like a sensible choice and it makes me seem like i have good taste in books but the book theif is barely in my top ten. so if you ever see my say the book thief is my favorite book remember this post and know that i’m a liar <3
