Okay so, consider this a little extra when it comes to the ‘Leaving the garden’ series, seeing as I wanted them all to be inspired by some even that was historical or biblical and this very much isn’t, it was just a cute idea that wouldn’t leave my head lol. So here you are. The premise is basically ‘Crawly acting like a child during the world’s first snowfall’. I do like the idea of them both being a bit childlike in the beginning (and possibly less averse to touching, because it got a bit more meaningful and dangerous once deeper feelings got involved).

The next one’s going to be quite short, and after that things are going to get a little more serious - but at least at this point in time, humanity is just using the sword for warmth.

Anyway, this concludes February!

La pluie de mardi matin s’est changée en bourrasque de neige à la suite d’une saute du vent, qui s’est ensuite maintenu au nordouest, durant plus de vingt-quatre heures. Ce fut une véritable tempête et mercredi matin les champs étaient couverts d’un tapis blanc de trois à quatre pouces d’épaisseur. Il a suffi d’ailleurs que le vent retournât au sud-ouest mercredi midi pour que cette neige fondît en grande partie.

C’est ainsi que l’Abitibi a goûté cette semaine au premier contact de l’hiver. Celui-ci reviendra pour de bon dans un mois, si les dictons des anciens sont vrais. On dit en effet que la neige arrive pour rester tout l’hiver un mois après la première bordée.

Tout cela est normal. On a gé­néralement les premières neiges en octobre dans la région de l’Abitibi, mais ellas disparaissent ensuite pendant quelques jours pour revenir plus abondantes et plus froides en novembre, alors que les chemins d’hiver sont établis jusqu’au printemps

First Snow

The snow

began here

this morning and all day

continued, its white

rhetoric everywhere

calling us back to why, how,

whence such beauty and what

the meaning; such

an oracular fever! flowing

past windows, an energy it seemed

would never ebb, never settle

less than lovely! and only now,

deep into night,

it has finally ended.

The silence

is immense,

and the heavens still hold

a million candles, nowhere

the familiar things:

stars, the moon,

the darkness we expect

and nightly turn from. Trees

glitter like castles

of ribbons, the broad fields

smolder with light, a passing

creekbed lies

heaped with shining hills;

and though the questions

that have assailed us all day

remain — not a single

answer has been found —

walking out now

into the silence and the light

under the trees,

and through the fields,

feels like one.

There is almost a foot of snow now, honestly maybe more. Im worried about the rabbits and hens since im not at the farm this weekend, but I know my coworkers will take good care of them.

Pick a place – it doesn’t have to be a cold place – and describe the first snowfall of the year there. 

The morning started with a lukewarm temperature that quickly dropped as the sun rose. The birds ended their songs and went to bed. Soft grey clouds puffed through the sky.  As a still quiet coated the air, gentle white flakes began to fall.  While the tiny, timid flakes were the first to come, eventually they were overcome by fuller, more aggressive flakes.  By dinner, the lawns, cars, and trees were blanketed by the white, cold glitter. By bedtime, the roads and rooftops were enveloped in a soft cold blanket from winter.
