Under Da Sea.
In my college dorm room there is a box made up of glass. It isn’t very big, a dorm room itself isn’t that big after all, but this box contains another world. I had stolen it from a lake one day; simply taken a knife and carved it away as a souvenir. It may have been selfish, but the lake will not miss it. I returned to my room and plopped the stolen sliver into the box, and have watched over it ever since.
They get fake small plants. No more grass for this tank, they can just finish eating the rest of it. I give up. (They spent at least half an hour trying to dig up the fake plants it was really funny tbh)
Imagine you walk into a store that sell all kinds of live fish. Salt water, fresh water, you name it, they have it. At first this place looks like the shadiest place you could have walked into, but the staff, who all happen to be smiling Asian ladies urge you in. The tanks look like they’ve been there for the past century and the poor fish are over crowded. But the farther you walk in the long long hall of the fish store the better it gets. The displays get more exotic and so do the fish. The further you walk the fancier it gets. And you’ve walked in pretty deep, the entrance is long behind you. Soon you’ve reached a beautiful atrium but instead of sky over the vaulted glass above you are soothing green waters where you can see more fish. In the center of the atrium a large fountain spilling into a large and beautiful koi pond surrounded by flower arrangements. You approach the pond and gaze into the crystalline waters. There you see a giant crowned koi. You don’t know how you know this but you do and it’s real. It’s swims by you showing you how it’s white and orange scales glitter and silvery crown on top of its head. You can see other crowned koi swimming in the pond, but this one, this one is special. It stops before you for a moment
You can never escape the fish store.
It says without speaking and then swims away as if nothing happened. Suddenly you become aware of how long you’ve been at the fish store you look behind you looking for the exits. But all you see are fish tanks. You were certain you walked down a straight hallway, but somehow the displays have multiplied and they way you came in is nowhere in sight. You’re lost and you didn’t even want fish to begin with, you just thought you’d look around and leave. Panicked you search the koi pond for more answers but none come and the fish that gave you the warning has become lost in the sea of its kind. You look up towards the end of the atrium where more fish store awaits you. You keep on walking feeling the dead eyes of the fish around you gaze at you in contempt. They too know you can never escape the fish store.
Water change time! Since Cheeto doesn’t have other tetras to keep him company, I like to rearrange the foliage when I do the weekly water change to keep him from getting too bored.
