Hearing Utada Hikaru sing ‘Fly me to the moon’ brings me so many feelings
Micah and I love a lot of music from New Zealand. This should come as no surprise. Micah, Eric, Rick and I (among dozens of others) have enjoyed Flying Nun bands over the years. But we've also enjoyed releases from Fishrider Records (Dunedin) and Thokei Tapes (Hamburg, Germany). A special nod to Thokei Tapes for finding hidden unreleased New Zealand gems from over the years.
Hand of Glory were a Hamilton, New Zealand (North Island, south of Auckland) who were active in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They do have an unmistakable Flying Nun sound - think of a cross between Able Tasmans and Sneaky Feelings. But they also recall some of the work of Prefab Sprout, and seem like an early indication of the sound that became the calling card of Belle and Sebastian. As the album continues it becomes a definite exploration of jazz and pop.

Can you see how much difference all these very Japanese ambient and subtle expressions with things like “……”, “ーー” and “……!!…” can make?
Same goes for a wide variety of all those sound effects words.
It’s getting almost endless work for me….

"Sweetly fluttering feelings have me feeling like a gentle butterfly flying above me as I look into your eyes, and as the butterflies swarm my heart.. forever falls within reach and I clasp on for dear life, forever to clutch forever that is now mine."
A butterfly told me that you loved me, did she tell you that I love you too? - eUë
