Flynn allows Yuri to break him out of jail (and in so doing, drags his best friend into a dangerous political conflict in which he previously had no direct involvement), then informs him on the way out that if he fails to recover a letter that may or may not still exist within the next few hours, he expects Yuri to submit quietly to execution on his behalf.
And Yuri, the 100% chaotic antihero vigilante rebel whose style was so cramped by knighthood that he quit after three months, agrees. Partly because he trusts Flynn to do what he’s setting out to, but mostly because he knows Flynn’s sense of justice won’t accept any other terms. Despite his token protest when Flynn tells him to stay, Yuri was aware even before he entered the guild union headquarters that he would be trading his own freedom for Flynn’s, and it’s a sacrifice he’s willing to make: Not only does he perceive Flynn as the better half of their duo – the one who is accomplishing something with his life, who is taking definite steps to carry through on the promise they made as children to make the world a better place – but Flynn is also his family, his de facto adopted brother, and Yuri would protect him with his life.
Flynn feels the same way (as evidenced when he throws himself in front of Yuri at Zaude), but he knows the outcome of this situation affects more than just the two of them. He’s determined to prevent war, even if it means breaking the rules (for once) and risking Yuri’s life. Even so, he doesn’t look at Yuri when he makes his request. He doesn’t need to, because they understand each other perfectly – and this way, he can focus on his goal, rather than be haunted by the image of his best friend waiting for the blade to fall if he fails.
