Lughnasadh/Lammas wreath for my door and a little altar decor with the extra. Foundation is a four strand plait for protection made of foraged grapevine. Added wheat in groups of 3 for the triad, plus some maple seeds from my trees for pretty. Thanking the trees and earth as I harvest, weaving in my hopes for future abundance, and being present in this season.
I remember that post about "enrichment" for humans and that whole "strap jerky to a toy car and chase it" bit IS good because humans are partially evolved to be persistence hunters but what about the foraging instinct??
I propose that one Japanese gameshow where competitors have to find the ONE object in a room that is made of chocolate.
Gotta love chokecherry season (this is my breakfast. There's A TON more out there) (´∩｡• ᵕ •｡∩`) ( ◜‿◝ )♡(｡♡‿♡｡)
And yes it's a balanced breakfast because of the protein from all the bugs in them :)
Me and my boyfriend each picked a full gallon of huckleberries on this last trip 😯🤯🥳💖
I hope I can still manage to get back up to the mountains to pick more before the season is over 😅
mushroom hunting except youre the mushroom
When I ran on my own two twig legs to the supermarket three miles down the strees to buy a whole bag of tomatoes and made tomato soup to stress drink said tomato soup straight out the pot, that was when I realised life gave me my first vibe check
Instead of a chosen one story, why not write one about the chosen one's guardian, like their mother? maybe there's some trait in the child that, at birth, gave them away, and since then their guardian has been fighting tooth and nail to keep them from their fate
actually all I want to do ever again is be outside
Harvested the first maypop of the season. Still a little under ripe, the flavor was alright, but it wasn't very juicy.
I found mushrooms on my walk today!
I'm only sure of what kind one of them is (because it's common and edible, not sure of the english name), the species detector app was unsure what the rest are. I left them behind anyway. The edible one was too old. But fun to finally find some mushrooms!
Also some pics from the woods. Trees. Some kinds of salix trees on these pictures. And a pretty flower.
(bonus pic: the dogcat <3)
Spotted this little guy while foraging for plantain and chamomile. I also found a new linen tree I'll be sure to visit next year for flowers!
shitty pics foraging!
here are some wild carrots (identified by smell, thank you Halia for the tip!)
coltsfoot leaves im gonna dry & burn for a salt alternative (caution: prolonged consumption of coltsfoot leaves will cause liver damage)
elderberries im gonna put in some pancakes (along with dock seeds i foraged lasy month)
some hydrangea macrophylla leaves im gonna attempt to ferment into amacha tea (tho i already started it wrong by cutting instead of bruising lmao, trial and error will be my guide)
and some bee balm I can use for tea :3
I love that every apple seed produces a different apple tree :3 I collected 3 types of wild apples today
I foraged mushrooms and made them into dramatic goth bucatini carbonara. Next time I'll have to use squid ink pasta for extra 💀✨razzle dazzle✨💀
(I used J. Kenji López-Alt for guidance on the base recipe.)

Does anyone have any recommendations for books on foraging, hunting, agriculture, surviving in the wild?
at some point humans found gorgeous colorful creatures like blue lobsters and went like "wow! I'm gonna eat that!"
Me: I could never eat a mushroom I foraged myself; cellophane makes me feel safe.
One week later: What do you taste like??I'm gonna make black trumpet carbonara.
Very tasty! Subtly smokey, woody, but mostly savory.
I only cooked up one (EVOO and sea salt) to make sure I can tolerate it. You never know.
Assuming I make it through the night...carbonara!
