this is honestly my new favourite reaction to anything. please don’t shit me.
wow, would you look at that. I actually finished something!!
zuko: yes, you are better than my old boyfriend. are you happy now?
sokka: I’m just sayin’, if you were in an accident, I wouldn’t stop for a drink
zuko: If you were in an accident, I wouldn’t stop for red lights
I mean yeah, this episode in which David helps a gay coworker reconnect with the parents who disowned him due to his sexuality definitely falls under the trope of the characters “solving” a social issue by either sticking their unsolicited noses in other people’s business or by forcefully lecturing strangers about issues that they themselves have no direct experience with (or some combination of the two), but I tend to cut these episodes a bit of slack. They have no real nuance, even compared to the generally minimal representation that queer people were getting on other shows at the time, and they definitely oversimplify, but I still get a kick out of seeing what a teen soap in ‘98 thought it was like to be gay (the answer? Miserable, unless you’re friends with someone from the gang who will literally save your life and then move on like you never existed). And in the case of this episode, at least it’s heart was in the right place.
It’s all “Roy, Jason, and Kori” this and “Jason, Artemis, and Bizarro” that, but why don’t we talk about Donna, Jason, and Kyle anymore?
Wally: so who wants to bet me 20$ to eat three huge tubs of ice cream in one go?
Donna, Garth, and Roy: Wally No!
Dick: Wally no, make it four coward!
i…..just finished reading the secret history for the first time………………………im not sure what the f to say
Titans (1999), #10
Ten: *serves Donna and Jack Macaroni and cheese*
Donna: You know, if you put ham in it, it’s like a British carbonara
Jack: oh no…
Donna: I’m just saying
Ten: If my grandmother had two wheels, she wouldve been a bike!
Jack and Donna: *dies laughing*
Can we talk about how Donna, who went through years of being regarded as a second rate W.onder Woman, who lost her son, was erased from the timeline several times and had to save the whole universe while also fighting for her right to just EXIST because she was deemed a ‘ cosmic mistake ’ always managed to find a reason to keep going and be hopeful and kind and friendly and extend a hand first even though the world never gave her much of a reason to stay nice? And how the one moment where she actually let her hate win was when she saw Roy nearly beaten to death and Lian killed? How THAT was what it took to make her furious enough she tried to hunt down Prometheus herself to kill him with her BARE HANDS?
And that was one of the few times she actually ended up struggling with her pure rage afterwards?
yo, has anyone ever read These names on the first page of the goldfinch?
(i actually love this picture) (and you knowriritberh krjfjgtname i’m talking about)
I’ve said it before I’ll say it again this is what we deserved for the older Titans. They earned their spot on the league. Yes, I will ignore that Garth and Lilith are dead at this point and Roy quit bc cry for justice happened just before this and all but this is the league we deserved.
