i got a new pack of blueberries which i was going to use to make myself a salad but i dropped the new pack and every single blueberry fell on the floor so i had to throw the whole pack away and i just sat on the ground and cried about it for like 5 minutes
Crack Team Minato and Kagumo au where a very sleep deprived Sakumo confuses god fruit with rambutan and Kakashi shares his lunch with his teammates while Kaguya was doing moon stuff and comes home to this shit
I just like the idea that Kaguya has a bunch of literal chakra-concentrated fruit that can turn people into gods lying around the Hatake compound as a fun, nutritious snack :]

Let’s draw a cute sun bear ❤️ Sun bear is the smallest, most arboreal and least studied bear. It is the second rarest bear species, after the giant panda. Their name comes from the pale horseshoe shape on their chests, which is said to resemble the setting of rising sun. Each bear’s crest is individual, like human fingerprint.

Hypothetically....... if I wrote a post-canon oneshot about Akito and Rin..... not bonding, exactly, but having a heart-to-heart about families, and, more specifically, how terrifying parenting is when your own parents never showed you how, would y'all read it?
And not whether Lewis should have put Santa into Narnia (although the Tolkien stan in me has to ask,,, wtf) but just... he’s not really a Father Christmas, is he? It’s not Christmas; it’s spring. It’s not the Christianization of traditional winter solstice celebrations; it’s the breaking of winter’s hold and the victory of life reborn. He doesn’t give the children presents like he does for the Beavers (important to note, though, that no one asks for specific Christmas presents. Father Christmas himself presumably decides what you ought to receive). He arms them for very specific tasks and specific Narnian identities. He hands them their destinies: the warrior king(s) and queens of a wild country, not just its defenders but its healers (see Tolkien’s “The hands of a king are the hands of a healer, and so shall the rightful king be known.”)
This destiny-focused gift-giving separates Lewis’s Father Christmas from his ancestor, St. Nicholas, who fits more neatly into a savior archetype. Whereas the most famous Nicholas legend involves the prevention of an undesirable fate (i.e. dowryless daughters forced into prostitution), Father Christmas actively enables and progresses their fates according to the prophecy, progression in a positive sense.
MORE fascinating to me, then, is why the White Witch keeps him out for a hundred years. It’s not just about quashing the joy that accompanies Christmastime (although that’s certainly part of it) but about preventing fate and the affirmation of identity. It makes more sense to me, then, why the Empress of Charn apparently did a 180 to become a winter witch. On one hand, an undeniable downgrade, but on the OTHER a natural progression of her TMN character: the Empress who sought her revenge by stopping time itself. In a new world where she no longer has that power, she can only confine the passage of time to one season with no seasonal progression (i.e. always winter, never Christmas).
Also why her most dreadful power is to turn people into stone: in a way it’s a fate worse than death, at least until Aslan comes to reanimate them. Like Han Solo in carbonite, her victims are alive--just stripped of their identity and agency. With that in mind, it also makes more sense why she’d keep them in her courtyard for her own viewing pleasure (more than just being a tee hee extra evil villain move). In Charn, she could destroy the world and freeze her court forever with her Deplorable Word, with a catch: unless someone particularly gullible arrived by nothing less than a miracle, she would be forever frozen with them. In Narnia, though her power be the less, she could freeze her enemies with a mere flick of the wrist but continue to look on. She becomes their superior not just in might but in a meaningful form of existence.
I know this post has been more about Jadis than about Father Christmas, but honestly they both make me appreciate Lewis’s vision for Narnia so, so much more. So much of this series is inexpressably devastating: the return from adulthood to childhood; the irregular passage of Narnian time such that a year’s absence makes you ancient; the separation of an only son from his widowed father for a decade, only to return on the eve of his death; and, of course, Aslan’s adage, “Nothing happens the same way twice.”
Lewis never addresses it explicitly, but The Chronicles are chock-full of the tragedy of time, of hurdling towards an irresistable fate. After thinking about it for five paragraphs though I guess I see Father Christmas as Lewis comforting his overwhelmed reader: time will pass on, your life path be actualized. You’re destined for dread and grief so deep neither words nor tears can express it, but there is joy there, also--hardship will come but you’ll be prepared for it; it’s far better to fulfill your fate than to be stripped of it. I’m gonna stop now bc it’s gonna make a 20-something going through personal loss + a global pandemic + the culmination of an ongoing climate crisis WEEP
