The fact that Mickey - cool, guarded Mickey - not so subtly spent like 5 episodes trying to bring Ian back into his life. Fucking someone who looked like him, asking anyone where Ian was, wanking to a picture of him. And then! When he finally got Ian back, realised that Ian needed help. So Mickey was going to help him.
And Mickey had to quickly accept that he would do anything for this boy. That he would risk everything. The thing that he couldn’t voice, let alone bear to hear about himself, with Lip on that porch where they skirted around his sexuality was so big for him. It made him itch. It made him reckless.
Ian was the only one who had explicitly asked him to say he was gay. To just admit it. But he couldn’t. What he could do when he found Ian was bring him home - bring him back to Mickey. Bring him to safety and protect the fuck out of him.
So, that’s what he does. And he doesn’t really get why Ian is the way he is at the time but he doesn’t mind. He doesn’t put himself above Ian. He just accepts that they both need each other and that Ian has changed over time. Hell, Mickey has too.
The moment that Ian is back in his life, Mickey drops everything else. He let’s his wife fuck off to give birth to what is presumably his child and moves in temporarily with the Gallaghers. He sleeps on their floor. He takes the fucking crumbs he gets from Ian because he will take anything to be back with this boy. And he accepts that this family may not know about him and Ian but that they respect both enough to give them space and not have to label it.
He leaves his home and his wife and his safety and his sister and brothers who will fight for him. He leaves all of it. When Ian asks for a blowjob, of course Mickey was going to do it. Mickey would take anything to have Ian near him. To feel close. To feel real.
There is nothing this boy wouldn’t do for Ian.
