Unless something ridiculously unreasonable happens, I’ll always be on the side of developers (regardless of studio, but we all know who I’m talking about, I hope). Making stuff is very hard, very demanding, and the pay off is not always worth it. Having randoms attacking your work is as fun as pulling nails and sinking your woulda in lemon juice.
I’ve updated These Reluctant Years, today!
In this update, I’ve:

Sorry about the delay on the usual Werewolf Wednesday you all expect. My fingers are just now thawing out enough to report back 🥶 I figured since I had already been through the area recently I’d make another trip up north to explore some of the culture and wildlife there.
There’s a peculiar breed of rabbits that can be found in abundance around Ice Lagoons and parts of the Monster Kingdom. While many rabbits that are found in temperate climates have a distinct white winter coat they develop, these rabbits never leave the cold and keep a white coat.
They can rarely be found as far east as Kulningvale from what I’ve heard, when they migrate during colder years. I figured crossing the border into the monster kingdom would be a bad idea given the political climate, so I tried to find some communities near the Ice Lagoons.
I found a cozy little logging village to settle in and explore around. See these ice rabbits are considered a local delicacy in the north, apparently normal methods of cooking ruin the flavor so it’s cured in the cold- shaving thin cuts off to serve.
Unfortunately the rumors I had heard didn’t include anything about how dangerous they could be when cornered, especially to someone dressed as light as me. I managed to track some down and catch a few in a trap. When I went to retrieve them they bit my hands and through my shoes.
Waves of cold shot through my limbs, it was a very unusual sensation… I’m not sure exactly of the mechanism but I’m all too familiar with the end result. They were easy prey but I still suffered some painful frostbite. The locals have been kind enough to let me recover here.
Hey guys! It’s been a while since the last devlog, hasn’t it?
I guess I should only make devlogs when I have good stuff to say, not every month, like initially planned.
Want to see what I’ve gotten done? More details under the cut!
Thought I was done adding cards, but after the dry run i took a closer look at the spread and decided to add more furniture. I think 180 items is an acceptable cap for a board game.
It’s hard to know where to stop. I know that if pushed I could well add another 50 items but maybe I’ll save that for an expansion lol
What’s New Wednesday is here again y’all and we have a developer update for you today! 🤩 Melissa has been working on a little bug fix to make the resource amounts shown match the amount you actually receive! ✨
I hope everyone has enjoyed their Valentine’s Day and for some of us Mardi Gras which I’m sure only one of the two is preferable for those who’re single….again
Here is a small treat for all of you good followers to enjoy a small update. I am currently putting in lines for Wizard Quests for most of the npcs and 3 of our main characters. I am still waiting to hear back from the others on progress…
The work schedule consists of seven tiles like this. Each day players choose how many hours to work and get gold equal to their hours. The player who works the most hours skips the Shopping Phase, but they get to choose their shift first the following day.
The hours are different each day and some shifts, like Tuesday, have two of the same number. Players who are tied for the most hours both skip their Shopping phase.

Currently at 8/33 outside maps for the game! These don’t include the farm houses, but!! I am proud that I’ve made it nearly a third of the way there. I hope the interiors pass faster as they will mainly just have one or two possible maps versus the outside maps that have several seasons for them.
Here’s some base maps for two of the towns! The top one is Butter Pond and the bottom is Fallkirk!
Hello everyone! This month’s update will be different from usual, so bear with me.
February’s a special sort of month for me because that’s when Lunar New Year happens. Most people think of it as a one-day celebration, but the weeks leading up to it are its own festivities. My family makes lots of food around this time, so that’s where my time went this month. It was extra special this year since we acquired an entire pig.
I was put in charge of making the sticky rice cakes. My mother said I made the top center one ugly. And so it goes that if you make ugly food, you have to eat that one. 😂
Little did we know, all of the food we were cooking would soon prove extremely useful very soon.
It was around February 11-ish that everything went to the gutters. In the middle of our Lunar New Year dinner, the power went out. So I had to do dishes by candlelight. This was NOT a good omen for the new year, haha!
Shortly after, the place I live was swept into a climate crisis…and in the middle of winter no less! There were lots of factors that led to our infrastructure failing us in this critical time. But the short of it is that my home went through many cycles of power and water outage, making the most mundane of tasks extremely difficult.
Still, I consider my situation much more blessed than everyone else nearby. We’re a family of over-preparers. One of our pipes burst, but it’s not an expensive fix. There was plenty of food so all we had to do was heat it up rather than try to cook with low power.
Truly, I considered myself lucky that I was able to continue working on Lotus of the Junk Heap at all. Morale has been like a roller coaster for the last week, but I was somehow able to focus despite it all. I’ve always been able to relate to the main cast’s reluctance to trust in authority, but this catastrophe has really refresh that feeling.
In any case, let’s get back to the development-related update, shall we?
The final results on the worldbuilding poll is this! It looks like I’ll be talking about bearfolks, and either vollaivin or demonfolks next.
On the writing front, I forced myself to write Chapter 1-3 properly this month. So those first drafts are done! All I have to do is write the two versions of Chapter 4 and I’ll have everything I need on the writing front for the demo.
I’m currently working with an artist to make a title screen for the game. I’m planning for the screen to change over time as you complete different playthroughs. You won’t see that as of the first demo release, but I hope you’ll be wow-ed by the screen regardless!
I’m also waiting on backgrounds, but I’m not super worried about it. After all, I still have to wrestle with Godot before we have something to play! I’m very excited for everyone to meet everyone in Lotus of the Junk Heap.
In preparation for this demo, I’m also planning to have an exclusive Discord for it. This way, you guys will have a place to come by and talk about the game! It’s not quite finished being set up yet, but I hope you’ll come by during its grand opening! I’ll have cute Yuridia emotes and Lotus of the Junk Heap’s characters emotes for you!
