    Been thinking about...

the artists that I started liking as a kid that have grown up with me and how they've changed over the years. Miley Cyrus is definitely one of them. So since I'm in the mood to do this, have one of my favorite songs from each of her albums. (under the cut, otherwise this will be giant!)

    #artist: miley cyrus #song: start all over #album: meet miley cyrus #genre: pop rock #year: 2007#music video #song: bottom of the ocean #album: breakout#year: 2008#song: obsessed #album: the time of our lives #genre: soft rock #year: 2009#song: stay #album: can't be tamed #year: 2010#song: fu#album: bangerz#genre: dubstep#year: 2013 #song: i forgive yiew #album: miley cyrus & her dead petz #genre: electro funk #year: 2015#song: thinkin' #album: younger now #year: 2017 #song: wtf do i know #album: plastic hearts #genre: glam rock

a request inspired by : MONEY HEIST (LA CASA DE PAPEL) ↘︎

This is how the greatest stories begin: with a murmured what-if — a spark like tinder catching, a burst of sudden fire. Two men in the strange glow that turns night into dawn, glasses raised, empty bottles around them. With the way one of them says: there was a world, once, as beautiful as all this. A world now trapped between the pages of history books, a thing reduced to brittle memory. The rotten seed from which Fallbrook once sprung: polished and synthetic and—

Unreal, the other tells him. Like the plot of a bad movie. A city where, on nights such as these, does not seem to leave a space for people like them. A space shrouded in mystery, like a text encoded to favour the privileged few.

And so: what-if. What if? comes the thought. An idealist’s dream, and the first stone thrown in the name of change.

Its weird how people will openly admit to reading fantasy/sci fi/etc books entirely for the romantic subplots while reducing everything else about the book to serving those subplots but then turn around and look down on the romance genre and its readers.

#books#reading #like personally purely romance books don't do much for me but the way some people talk about books makes it clear that that IS what... #they want but they got some weird complex about being above the romance genre and its readers or something

Time to accept the fact Juni’s wip is going to be a novella, because all those little structural changes I made put together pushed the wordcount back over 10k.

I finished this draft, though! >:D And it’ll really look so cool as a gothic myth/fairytale something story... it suits the themes and twists so well. When will the time come to really focus on this side of the prose and atmosphere, I’m so excited about it

#my wips genres are always something. indescribable right #gothic myth/fairytale science fantasy is a string of words i'd never expected to make sense as a story #but here we are

A song that makes you want to dance

My friend and I choreographed a jazz routine to this song in college, and we were so proud of how it came out!

A song that makes you want to dance

Day 4 of the 100 day song challenge

    First, Teardrop by Massive Attack

When I was a kid, the seniors at my studio did the coolest modern routine to this! It was so cool, and I definitely still do the parts I remember every time it comes on.

It's been too long since I last read a YA novel to know if this type of female protagonist is still in style, but years later and I'm still pissed off at how authors would use the most disingenuous language possible to trick you into believing that looking like a white runway model is a character flaw, especially for characters who were meant to be "special", non-conformist, and not-like-other-girls. They'd be like, "I have limp, lifeless hair (aka perfectly straight), a small figure without any curves to speak of (aka she wears a size 2 or under), and pale, almost translucent skin (aka she's as white as humanly possible.)" All so that they could have their "omg she was actually beautiful the whole time!" or "omg he loves her despite her being the less beautiful girl!" moment while the protag is still as traditionally desirable as possible.

And the way having brown hair and brown eyes was treated like a physical flaw? What are white people on

i feel like internet culture has robbed a lot of people of the knowledge that they can just dislike something without having to justify why from a moral standpoint. i keep seeing posts about how things like romance novels or less thematically sophisticated stories shouldn’t be written and read because they don’t “””expand your world-view”””, and that reading within your comfort zone is Wrong.

the truth is that most people read for entertainment!!! there is no obligation to be a ‘sophisticated’ reader. sure, sometimes engaging uncritically with fiction can be a sign of having your blinders on in real life but a lot of the time people reach to fiction simply to take a break from reality. reading/consuming media within your comfort zone =/= being completely blind to everything outside your own experience.

if you hate a genre, go ahead and hate it! just don’t pretend it grants you superiority over others when it’s just a difference in taste.

#talk tag #clambers up on my soap box for 0.5 seconds #you can just dislike things! you can dislike people too! you don't need to spin a yarn about how they're toxic or immoral or whatever #just to justify your opinion #also. not that this needs to be said but ill say it anyways: im not talking about when authors are bigoted. by all means drag them. #i think this irks me a lot too because most of the posts i see are talking about either romance or YA fiction #and i agree there are poor quality books in those genres. but that's true of EVERY GENRE #when the genres that get ragged on the most are the more woman dominated ones. you've gotta wonder
