I didn’t even realize there was a CD soundtrack release for The Baby!
Work in progress, 2020–21
If someone doesn't post a screenshot of Gerald soon I might just die of homosexual yearning
i am absolutely living for the fact that linda and gerald are the embodiments of gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss and manipulate, mansplain, malewife.
a few doodles of my favorite characters of this episode! can’t wait for the rest of the season!
Okay so this may not make any sense but after sleeping on Honey Queen and waking up this morning with a head full of Thoughts and Feelings.
So, there was one thing in Honey Queen that really stuck out to me, and it was the $10,000 thing - Zoey’s inheritance and Linda’s snide remarks.
Linda calls Zoey ‘cheap’ for being so excited about the $10,000. Fucked up way she got it aside, it makes total sense for Zoey to be so excited about that $10,000. That’s probably more money than that girl has ever had in her bank account at one time, that money means a way out to freedom and New York.
For Linda, that $10,000 means nothing, but for Zoey it means absolutely everything. Of course Linda calls Zoey cheap - Linda probably has spent $10,000 on designer jackets without blinking an eye. Hell, she probably spent 5-10 times that paying people off to sabotage her.
I was reading other people’s posts about how Zoey was so like dirty and she stooped a lot lower than Linda did, and I know I saw a post comparing it to Squid Game, but that’s exactly what Zoey’s position is like. She doesn’t have thousands upon thousands to throw around, so she has to be dirty because she’s desperate.
Sam probably used that desperation, and also. because he’s crazy, to serve his own psychopathic needs. He saw Zoey was desperate and killed under the guise of helping her.
Other, sidenote musing on Linda. Linda’s been raised her whole life to perpetuate this. It’s all she knows. It’s clear that Roman’s been raising Linda from childhood to act this exact way and do this exact thing.
It’s also likely that Roman did the same thing to his wife - groomed her for Honey Queen, then killed her. We’re not going to be getting Roman’s wife in Season 2, I don’t think.
He’s upholding the status quo, with no regard for his daughter. The rich exploit the rich exploit the poor. Linda doesn’t even realize she is being exploited. She just thinks that this is how things should be, which is a sad echo of the real world.

Gerald is perfectly aware of Linda cheating on him and half of the kids not being his biologically. He wasn't sold on having kids in the first place, but he's so devoted to Linda he doesn't make differences between the boys and treats them all equally not great lol he's not a good dad
he very frequently makes fun of the before pictures of his patients with Linda as couple bonding time
After the fourth accidental pregnancy he started stocking up the house and cars with condoms and Linda thinks she's outsmarting him and being super magnanimous by stealing from his own stash and not calling out his own affairs.
Gerald doesn't and would never cheat on Linda. He has never considered it. He also has never considered leaving her over her own infidelity. He just doesn't want any more damn kid.
Gerald absolutely was not at any of the births, he cashed out for her to get the best of the best care and then peaced out after leaving her in good hands.
Every single one their fights ends with him apologizing and buying Linda something to prove he’s sorry, whether he was in the wrong or not. NSFW addition: If she truly feels in the wrong, she’ll never admit it but she might give him a bj that night so he knows she’s sorry without her having to tell him.
He's quite a bit older than her, ten years or so. They met wherever rich people meet and she heard he was wrapping up medical school and was set to earn a lot of money and was like "okay I'm listening" when he started flirting with her.
She picked him over any other because she's been starved from approval and affection for her entire life and Gerald thinks the best of her always, and also because he's the only one who's unfazed by her tantrums and that reminds her of her dad too.
Not sure he's ever changed a diaper. When the kids were younger, they had a nanny even though Linda was at home all day.
They often take fancy weekend getaways without the kids they spend doing rich people things, havinq sex and trash talking their kids a little bit.
me: tries not to cry
Gerald’s voicemail: Hi, you’ve reached Dr Gerald Monroe of Inner Beauty Cosmestic Clinic. I’m not available right now but if you leave your name and number, I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
me: cries a lot
ADONIS by Gerald Stern
I forgave him the debt of having to explain
where he came from, who his angry father
and his loving mother were, or I relieved him
from any excuse and sat
dozens and dozens of years ago at the counter
of Zak’s, Broadway and 103rd,
he on the other side, his sleeves rolled up,
his hands, his arms, in steaming water, washing
dishes and frying pans and talking music,
his dream of studying at Juilliard,
the tiny practice room a rich lady
from the Upper East or Upper West Side paid for,
listening all afternoon to him playing
the small piano, his large romantic gestures,
his hair wild, his hands and fingers amazing,
classic Polish, he was from Little Italy,
a high-school dropout, me a graduate student
at Columbia, then I left for a year in Europe
and when I came back I looked him up at Zak’s,
the manager told me he was dead, no one
knew the facts, I thought of him
for years, I remember that we
took him out for dinner on Amsterdam
and he unspooled his dream again and told us
about the music he had written that week
conducting with one hand, it was a loss
I couldn’t recover from, I was awake
night after night but I can’t even remember
his name, I lost it years ago, dear Shelley,
this was Adonis too,
Starkid really gave us two more iconic murder couples in Honey Queen and we have no choice but to stan.
Saw some posts saying it's hard to choose between Linda and Zoey because they're both terrible, which is fair
Here's the thing tho:
Sometimes there are 2 obvious sides, and they're both bad. Not everything has a good team and a bad team, sometimes there are just two bad teams and you hope they both lose
And I know this is just fun memery in fiction and like pick a team bc it ultimately is just for fun, but it's worth keeping in mind for actual things too
And also you can just be glad they kinda both lost bc they both deserve it
Linda and Gerald are literally just Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss and Manipulate, Mansplain, Malewife.
you wouldn’t know this
of course you wouldn’t
but it’s difficult to stare too long at a sunset.
It’s not just the light
quotidian beauty like that defies comprehension
it frustrates the eye.
Majesty that predictable is impossible to grasp, I think
so it’s impossible to focus your vision on it for too long.
It’s why when you go to the Grand Canyon you wind up spending more time ogling the alien foliage and monitoring the aggressively panhandling squirrels than actually admiring the canyon
because at a certain point it’s too difficult to look at.
or to think about
it’s there, constantly
and it’s always like that
I went to the Grand Canyon once
it was nice
the internet, though, is fixed
in a different way
in this sense, at least
what I mean is, there’s nothing visual you can cram in a glowing rectangle that fucks with your brain quite like a sunset
if we can’t seek the physical sublime
what are we supposed to look at
where’s that constant amazement
that we can check in on every so often
whenever we can stand it
Calvin Kasulke, Several People Are Typing
so they went home with the crown and their four beautiful blond boys and nothing bad ever happened at the Honey Festival? right?
anyways Gerald and Linda's last words to each other (which Gerald never got to hear) were "I love you"
