My baby sister, Lisa, had already been in Vegas for three days for a Rodan + Fields convention. I arrived Sunday morning around 9:30 a.m. and the first order of business was to pick up the rental car - a Ford Mustang convertible! Poor Cecelia at Dollar Rental Car! We went through three cars before we got it right! First was a filthy, beat up, dull silver car. Next was a bright yellow one with trash in the trunk that needed an oil change. Finally, we settled on a beautiful green car- my favorite color! Wanting to get settled into the hotel, the room wasn’t quite ready so we had a bite of lunch at the Beach Club in the Tropicana. It was delicious! Lisa had the crunchy grilled salmon dish and I had a yummy chicken sandwich with pesto aioli. We had to double order the parmesan truffle skinny fries ... although they have yet to make us any skinnier! Ha! Our room was finally ready and we both collapsed for a couple hours nap! We are both approaching 50, you know! The Tropicana is a lovely, newly renovated hotel. It’s at the end of the strip so you have a pretty good view of the buildings in this desert city. After our refreshing nap, we got all gussied up and Hit the Strip! Starting at the Bellagio, the first sight to hit me was the beautiful Chiluly chandelier in the lobby. I was so excited to see his work again. He is my favorite glass artist. Lisa took me further into the lobby to show me the adorable fall display. Forest animals, like squirrels, owls, and possums, frolicked among the beds of colorful mums, numerous pumpkins and gourds, and fall trees. It just made everyone smile it was so cute! One thing we couldn't miss was the well-known water show in front of the hotel. How incredible the large sprays of water sounded as they shot into the air. It reminded me of the sound of fireworks exploding from their tubes in the ground. We then began our walk to Treasure Island ... my feet would later regret this choice of transportation! We stopped in Caesar’s Palace looking for a hot club but instead found Gordon Ramsey’s Pub and opted for a bite to eat. The British/Scottish themed pub was very nice. The fish and chips came highly recommended so I gave it a try. It was served with traditional mushy peas which I was, at first, hesitant to try. Then I reminded myself this was the year to try new things and gave them a taste. The green pea and mint mixture was actually really tasty! I’m glad I’m getting to be a little more adventurous with my food choices. Finally, we made it to Treasure Island and Gilley’s country bar! Despite the fact that my feet would have likely felt better if I had just cut them off, I danced and danced and danced! The highlight was the Bikini Bull Riding contest ... and, NO, I did not enter the competition ... if I had had a few more drinks or was about 50 lbs or more lighter I would have hopped right up on the back of that bull. The girl that won earned every bit of the $400 prize! She made it look so easy! For the only night in Vegas and first night of this great Sisters Trip, it was one to remember! So excited to get on the road tomorrow and see where it takes us!
