  • Theory for if Heaven/Hell Is real

    I just had a thought/ theory. What if Heaven and Hell are real, but they are not real in the way society has made it seem. What if the heaven or Hell you go to after you die is made up of all the things you believed hell to be and heaven to be, and they are made up of how you interpreted the Devil or interpreted God. So if you interpreted Lucifer as good, and as someone who has been misunderstood (basing stuff off of the show) then the Devil is good in your hell, but if you interpreted him as evil, he’ll be evil. Vise Versa for god.


    And what if the devil and the god you see is the god and devil you’ve watched on TV and fixated on TV. So Lucifer would look like Tom Ellis and God would look like either Morgan Freeman or Dennis Haysbert (depending on who you believe best fits the role)

    Life is taking it’s toll on me

    Every time I feel lonely, I know the demons trying to get a hold of me.

    You still haven’t said a word, another friend just told me.

    Speaking of friends, as of today I won’t claim any.

    What a fool I was, back in the day I thought I had too many.

  • 23 Ἀνάγκη οὖν τὰ μὲν ὑποδείγματα τῶν ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς τούτοις καθαρίζεσθαι, αὐτὰ δὲ τὰ ἐπουράνια κρείττοσιν θυσίαις παρὰ ταύτας. 24 οὐ γὰρ εἰς χειροποίητα εἰσῆλθεν ἅγια Χριστός, ἀντίτυπα τῶν ἀληθινῶν, ἀλλʼ εἰς αὐτὸν τὸν οὐρανόν, νῦν ἐμφανισθῆναι τῷ προσώπῳ τοῦ θεοῦ ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν·

    My translation:

    23 Therefore, it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed by these things, but the heavenly things themselves by better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ did not enter into holy places made by hands, anti-types of the true ones, but into heaven itself, now to appear to the face of God on behalf of us.

    Notes:

    Verse 23

    ἡ ἀνάγκη (18x) is, “necessity”. There is an implied, impersonal verb giving the sense, “There is/was a necessity”; “It was necessary” (most every translation).

    The μὲν … δὲ construction contrasts the copies of the heavenly things with the heavenly things themselves.

    τό ὑπόδειγμα (6x), from ὑποδείκνυμι, is “example, model, pattern” or “outline, sketch (NRSV, NET), symbol” (BDAG). Most translations: “copies”. τὰ ὑποδείγματα is the accusative subject of the infinitive καθαρίζεσθαι.

    τῶν is substantival, modified by the locative dative τοῖς οὐρανοῖς (“the things in the heavens”; ESV, NIV, NRSV: “heavenly things”). τῶν modifies τὰ ὑποδείγματα as an objective genitive (“these things copy the heavenly things”).

    The substantival τούτοις does not modify τοῖς οὐρανοῖς, but καθαρίζεσθαι, indicating means; the antecedent could be the “sacrifices” (most translations) implicit in v. 15-22 (“purified with these sacrifices”). ESV, NRSV: “rites”. NIGTC says τούτοις ‘refers to the tabernacle and its vessels’.

    The passive infinitive καθαρίζεσθαι complements ἀνάγκη. The present-tense indicates the never-ending process of the earthly rituals.

    The adjective ἐπουράνιος (19x), from ἐπί + οὐρανός, is “heavenly”. τὰ ἐπουράνια is substantival, with αὐτὰ functioning as an intensive modifier (“the heavenly things themselves”). The phrase is functionally equivalent to τῶν ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς earlier. τὰ ἐπουράνια is the subject of another implied καθαρίζεσθαι. Why the heavenly sanctuary should have needed purification is the subject of much debate. NIGTC quotes the NJB note: “The ‘purification’ of the sanctuary, whether the earthly or the heavenly one, does not necessarily imply any previous ‘impurity’: it is a consecratory and inaugural rite”. This explanation is inadequate to EGGNT, which says that even a consecration implies cleansing; rather Christ’s heavenly cleansing is meant to indicate the removal of the barrier which prevented the access of sinners to God.

    κρείττων (15x, 12 of which in Hebrews) is, “better” (most all translations); ICC: “nobler”. The feminine dative plural κρείττοσιν θυσίαις instrumentally modifies the implied καθαρίζεσθαι (“purified by better sacrifices”). Although referring to the singular death of Christ, the plural probably mirrors the plural τούτοις from earlier; NIGTC says the plural is ‘generic and imprecise.’

    The antedecent of ταύτας is the same as τούτοις; παρὰ with the accusative ταύτας indicates comparison.

    Verse 24

    χειροποίητος (6x), from χείρ + ποιέω, is “made by [human] hands”. χειροποίητα modifies ἅγια, which indicates “holy places” (ESV). NASB: “a holy place”; NIV, NRSV, HCSB: “a sanctuary”. EGGNT says the unusual word order is emphatic.

    The subject of εἰσῆλθεν is Χριστός. In compounds with εἰς, the preposition is nearly always repeated.

    The adjective ἀντίτυπος (2x), from ἀντί + τύπος, is “corresponding to”; when substantival, “a copy, antitype, representation” (BDAG). Most translations: “copy”; HCSB: “model”; NET: “representation”. EGGNT says the meaning is probably similar to that in 1 Peter 3:21, indicating something pointing forward, “prefigure”, “foreshadowing”. NIGTC says ‘Ἀντίτυπος in 1 Pet. 3:21 means the greater of two counterparts; in the present case, it means the lesser.’ ICC says it is a synonym here for ὑποδείγματα. 

    ἀληθινός, “true” (most translations), could also be “real, genuine, authentic”. The substantival τῶν ἀληθινῶν indicates “the true sanctuary”. The phrase ἀντίτυπα τῶν ἀληθινῶν is in epexegetical apposition to χειροποίητα ἅγια; ICC: “a mere type of the reality”.

    ἀλλ’ contrasts with οὐ earlier.

    Another εἰσῆλθεν is assumed here.

    αὐτὸν is another intensive pronoun modifying τὸν οὐρανόν (“heaven itself”). The singular here is probably used to indicate the very dwelling place of God, although our author seems to move from the singular to the plural without significance. 

    ἐμφανίζω (10x), an emphatic form of φαίνω, is “I make visible”; here in the passive, “appear” (most translations). The infinitive ἐμφανισθῆναι indicates purpose (“so that He might now appear”, HCSB). The aorist-tense probably indicates the once-for-all entry of Jesus into the heavenly sanctuary.

    The locative τῷ προσώπῳ τοῦ θεοῦ is a Hebraisim for “in the presence of God” (but Darby: “now to appear before the face of God for us”).

    ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν is, “for us” (NIV, NASB, HCSB), “on our behalf” (ESV, NRSV).
