The girl is sitting on her desk, planning to study. She is distracted by the charming light of the morning sun. She runs her eyes through all that is lit by it. She moves on to the parts of her room that remains in shadows, it is all so beautiful.ย

when the sun kisses the horizon

and he crosses the fine line

between our world and the unknown

    he vanishes into the ocean

and shall rise on the other side

    oh how great the longing

    to follow him one day

    over to the other side

    into a strange new world

    what i may see there

    i can only dream of

but still the hope to reach this place

    keeps me alive

    will never die

and until then i will stay here

    patiently waiting

    admiringly watching

the sun kissing the horizon with every dawn

As long as I can remember, I have wanted you. I have made a monument of this loving. I had a dream last night, but it is gone now. All I know is I woke up like this again.

Drawn by your soulโ€™s growing, we gather like disheveled hair. Even spirits come to bow. We were dead. Now we are back. My crown, my robe, my head, those three for less than a penny. My self, my name, not to be mentioned, less than nothing.

At night you come here secretly, and I want the darkness not to end. But Night says, Look, you are holding the Sun. So you are in charge of daylight. The secret you told, tell again. If you refuse, I will start crying. Then you will say, Shhhhh, now listen. I will say it over.

You were alone, I got you to sing. You were quiet, I made you tell long stories. No one knew who you were, but they do now. I have lived on the lip of insanity, wanting to know reasons, knocking on a door. It opens. I have been knocking from the inside.

There is no love in me without your being, no breath without that. I once thought that I could give up this longing. Then I thought again, But I could not continue being human.

We are the night ocean filled with glints of light. We are the space between the fish and the moon, while we sit here together. Sometimes afraid of reunion, sometimes of separation. You and I, so fond of the notion of you and an I, should live as though we had never heard of those pronouns.

Two strong impulses. One, to drink long and deep. The other, not to sober up too soon. The wine we really drink is our own blood. Our bodies ferment in these barrels. We give everything for a glass of this. We give our minds for a sip.

Love enters, and the brilliant scholars get goofy. The full moon becomes a simple dirt road. Walk there with degenerates and saints, with children and old people.

Be a slow pawn, as well as the wide-ranging queen. Then you will be king. The end so quickly, the noises we make. A wolf tears open the silly sheepโ€™s throat. Look at the people going there with their heads prancing along. One downstroke and they are dead.

They say it is night, but I cannot tell say from night in your presence. Day could learn a lot about light from your face. Your love spreads into the sky and beyond it. Your strong hand touched here I hurt. Wherever your feet have walked on this planet, I go there secretly to lay my cheek.

A nightbird in his rapture for the dark makes a clear wind sound. Music has never been so beautiful. I stare into a stream or sit beside flowers. Inside this companionship.

In the beginning you pampered me with gifts. Then you showered me in the glory only those like you possess. You instilled in me wings that of a pegasus, teaching me to soar through the infinite sky while also holding me in your protection at the same time.

A human being is made of clay and sky. Spirit beings wish they could move as we do. They want our agility and purity. And sometimes, Lucifer marvels at our cruelty, the coldness of our turning away.

Wherever I touch my head to the ground, you are the one I point this full prostration toward. You are praised in each of the six directions, north, east, south, west, up, and down, and beyond all that. Rose garden, nightingale, every beauty of existence is a no-form of you, the living was you are.

Helios is wine, but not the kind that muddled and brings regret. Helios is music and light and fire. He brings the majesty that lives in the deep center of everyone.

Into The Unknown (Percy Jackson x Reader)

Part one: You visit the Oracle of Delphi

The stairs creaked each step you took. You had never been in the attic before and it was not particularly an experience you had craved. Having heard stories about how creepy the oracle was (and having witnessed gate-crashing the game of Capture the Flag), you figured this was something you could miss out on. Of course, that was not going to stop you from going on your own quest. Besides, your father is the God of prophecies, what could go wrong?

A lot of things. A lot of things could go wrong.

Alternatively: you get ready to go on your first quest.

NOTES: Hello! You have stumbled about a story with an overarching plot following a daughter of Apollo and the trials and tribulations she faces. It will start in Percy Jackson and The Olympians and continue into Heroes of Olympus. It is a Percy Jackson/Reader fanfic. This is part of a series called Heliophila that i am also posting on Archive of our Own (which youโ€™ll find here). Comments and constructive criticism are very much welcome!
The characters and the plotline of the books are not mine and belong to their respective owners. The story is mine, however, as is the character of โ€˜the readerโ€™. Please do not publish this story elsewhere without asking for my permission. The reader is a female because I am basically just writing this to entertain my wish to be a demigod.
This particular installment will be multiple parts covering Sunshine's first quest. It may take some time for the overall installment to be completed as I'm working on my bachelor thesis and well. . . .it's a lot of work. Anyways thank you for all the support and all the kind comments! It really means a lot to me. If you like my work and you have some spare money to help out an artist, please consider buying me a coffee or becoming a supporter :) It's not a requirement, but I gotta find some way to make money in the COVID-19 pandemic haha. Anyways, I hope you enjoy :)
If you like the story, please leave a heart and feel free to reblog :)

The morning after you received the news that you were going on a quest, it was time for you to go to the Oracle to receive your prophecy. You had said goodbye to Thalia and Grover before they left with the Huntresses to go find Artemis. Travis and Connor had been awfully chipper in the morning and you had the feeling that it had something to do with the fact that one of the hunters of Artemis had been carried into the med bay. You decided not to ask, though, as you have more important things on your mind. You had not really spoken to Percy in the morning but the two of you had already said goodbye by the lake last night. Percy was going to follow the quest-goers and try to find Annabeth and you had your own quest to worry about, after all.

Chiron had been vague about the quest. You know that it had to do with the fact that quest-goers had to figure out their own quests, but you could not help but wonder whether there was something more going on. Chiron had looked concerned when he had introduced the quest.

โ€œAs you may know,โ€ he had said, โ€œClarisse la Rue has been absent from Camp Half-Blood for quite some time. Last summer, she was sent on a secret scouting mission because there had been some suspicious activity around her home. We had a feeling that it had something to do with Kronosโ€™ army. Clarisse has been missing in action for some time now. She was supposed to keep in touch regularly, however, it has been two months since her last report. We need to you find her.โ€

There were a few things that had gone through your head in the moment; โ€œWhat kind of scouting mission?โ€ โ€œWhat was Clarisse doing on the mission alone?โ€ โ€œWhy have they been keeping this a secret?โ€ โ€œWhy in all that is holy do they want you specifically for this quest?โ€

You stayed silent, however, as you waited patiently for further explanation. It never came through. After you accepted the quest, Chiron had told you to get ready for dinner and visit the oracle early in the morning โ€“ maybe even get some packing down. He had also told you that you werenโ€™t allowed to reveal the contents of the mission until there was more information concerning the situation. He did not want to cause a panic over (potentially) nothing.

When morning came around, you were nervous. It was time to visit the Oracle of Delphi. Hopefully whatever the Oracle had to say was more helpful than Chironโ€™s information on the quest โ€“ or rather, lack thereof.

Standing in front of the mummy-oracle, you took a deep breath and asked the dreaded question, โ€œWhat must I do to complete my quest?โ€

Looking expectantly at the Oracle of Delphi, you waited for it to speak. For a moment, it seemed like nothing was going to happen and just when you were about to let a huge sigh of disappointment leave your lips, grey mist enveloped the room and bright, vivid eyes of light snapped towards you. The Oracle stood from her position, terrifyingly rigid because it opened its mouth, allowing more thick mist to fall from its mouth before you could hear it speak:

To find war's daughter, you shall go into the depths of the unknown.

Beware the treacherous walls or fall prey to the beast without a bone.

You shall delve into the darkness and follow the path it will pathe.

A single choice will determine the fate of those you wish to save.

The mist slowly started to disappear and before you could even blink, the Oracle was back to itโ€™s mummy-like state. You stared at it for a moment, eyes wide and heart racing. What beast? Treacherous walls? A life or death choice? As far as prophecies went, you were certain that this was the bleakest prophecy you had ever heard, though it was equally vague as all the other prophecies known to Camp Half-Blood.

Knowing that the Oracle was not going to reveal any more information, you decided to head back to the Big House and report your prophecy to Chiron. Perhaps he could tell calm you down because your current mental state screamed worry.

A quick knock on the door of Chironโ€™s office and you were seated in front of the centaur. He studied you for a moment before speaking, โ€œI take it your visit to the Oracle had shaken you up a bit.โ€

You frowned but nodded in confirmation.

โ€œDonโ€™t be too discouraged. Itโ€™s your first quest and your first prophecy. Besides, I donโ€™t think anyone hears a prophecy and is not worried about its outcome.โ€ Chiron gave you a reassuring look and you let the comforting words wash over you before you told him the content of your prophecy.

โ€œWhat do you think it means? Treacherous walls? That just does not make any sense to me.โ€ Running a hand through your hair, you looked up at Chiron with searching eyes.

โ€œI have not been completely forthcoming about the quest. Or rather, I havenโ€™t revealed everything yet. I wanted to wait to hear the Oracle would reveal.โ€ Chiron explained. โ€œI told you that Clarisse noticed some suspicious activity around her home in Arizona. We suspect that she found one of the entrances to the Labyrinth.โ€

โ€œWait, you mean Daedalusโ€™ Labyrinth?โ€ you asked, furrowing your eyebrows in confusion. When giving it further thought, it made sense that the Labyrinth was in the United States. When Olympus moved from Greece to New York, the rest of the Ancient Greek structures must have moved as well. However, hearing it for the first time? Yeah, confusing.

Chiron nodded, โ€œThere are various entrances to the Labyrinth. Mr. D and I suspect that there is one close to Camp Half-Blood, or even in the camp. When Clarisse reported that she found an entrance in Phoenix, I started to think that Luke is trying to find a way into Camp Half-Blood using the entrance. According to Clarisse, he had been sending demigods through the entrance in order to figure out if it is useable. So far, non of the demigods have come out yet.โ€

โ€œWhat about Clarisse, then?โ€ you asked, eyes wide with worry. You had never been best friends with Clarisse La Rue, but she had never threatened to beat you into a pulp either, which said a lot about your relationship with her. If Clarisse had gone into the maze, then it would make sense that she was missing.

An exasperated sigh escaped Chironโ€™s lips and he hung his head, โ€œClarisse went into the Labyrinth. I had been very hesitant to send her in on her own, but she insisted. There has been no word from her since.โ€

โ€œWait.โ€ You frowned, shaking your head, โ€œHold on. If you did not want Clarisse to go into the Labyrinth alone, then why are you sending me in alone?โ€

โ€œYou ask a fair question,โ€ Chiron admitted, โ€œIf we send in a rescue party, we risk running into Luke and his army and the element of surprise is our biggest advantage right now. Sending in just one camper is our best option.โ€

You considered his answer and decided to accept it. You had been given this quest and the prophecy seemed to imply that you had a chance to succeed. All you needed to do was make the right choice. Could not be that hard, right?

โ€œAlright, but why me? There are a lot of campers who have more experience and greater skill than I do.โ€ Nervously, you fiddled with the hem of your Camp Half-Blood t-shirt. If Clarisse could not manage to get out of the Labyrinth on her own, how could Chiron expect you to do it?

A gentle smile rested on his features. โ€œDo not underestimate yourself. You have been given a gift rare to children of Apollo and youโ€™ve been given this gift for a reason. You are suited for this quest because you can survive with nothing but yourself. You have the gift of Photokinesis and you have the ability to heal yourself not to mention your personal strength of determination and quick-wittedness. This is something you will need to survive the Labyrinth.โ€

Though you still were not too sure about what Chiron was telling you, it seemed better to accept his answer and move on rather than dwell on your insecurities. You could not let Clarisse down. Still, you could not help but feel that you were inadequate. Yes, you had special abilities, but you hardly knew how to control your Photokinesis and you were undoubtedly the worst healer in the Apollo Cabin. How was that going to help you in the dangerous maze?

โ€œI should probably pack, then,โ€ you said, standing up.

Chiron replied with a nod, opening the door for you. โ€œThat seems wise. Make sure to visit your brother Will for medical supplies and ask those mischievous sons of Hermes if they have anything that might be useful to you. Argus will take you to Arizona when you are ready. Good luck, young one.โ€

With a laugh escaping your lips, you headed out of the Big House. Your mind was spinning with thoughts about the prophecy, thoughts about what you needed to take with you, and thoughts about how horribly this quest could go. On top of that, you could not help but wonder if Percyโ€™s rogue quest was going well and if he had managed to catch up to Thalia, Grover, and the Huntresses yet. You had been so caught up in your thoughts that you nearly ran into Drew Tanaka, receiving a rather nasty look from the daughter of Aphrodite. You did not pay too much attention to it, however, considering you had much more important things to think about than generic mean girls. Although, ironically, your entire quest was based on saving a mean girl.

With a small sigh, you opened the door of Cabin Seven and immediately came face to face with the only two of your half-siblings that were still at Camp Half-Blood (and also the two half-siblings that seem to pry into your business the most). Will Solace and Michael Yew were looking at you expectantly, no doubt knowing that you had visited the Oracle in the morning. Despite having kept the contents of your quest a secret, Michael and Will were aware of the fact that you were going on your first quest. They seemed more excited about it than you did.

โ€œHello, little sis. You all ready to go and be a hero?โ€ Michael asked, a goofy grin on his lips as he teased you. โ€œHow was The Oracle?โ€

Rolling your eyes at the first question, you decided to only answer the second one, โ€œIt was creepy.โ€ you simply replied, making your way to your little bed in the corner of the room. You were going to start packing but immediately noticed that there was a backpack full of stuff placed neatly on your bed. โ€œWait, did you guys pack for me?โ€

Will nodded, opening the front compartment of the backpack, โ€œYes. I put a small first aid kit here, and there is nectar and ambrosia in the main compartment, along with some clothes, some other essentials, and โ€“ โ€

You did not allow him to finish, as you threw your arms around him and embraced the blonde medic gratefully, โ€œYouโ€™re the best brother a girl could ask for.โ€ You beamed at him as you held him at arm's length. Taking care of people really was Will Solaceโ€™s niche.

Behind Will, you could see Michael pout. โ€œHey, what about me? I helped!โ€ he exclaimed. You let out a small laugh before embracing him as well. He took that moment to whisper in your ear, โ€œI packed that navy sweater you like so much. You know, for luck?โ€

You knew exactly what sweater he was talking about. The sweater Percy had given you when you were cold after the prank the Hermes and Hecate kids pulled on the Apollo Cabin. In any other situation, you would have probably hit him for suggesting what he was so obviously suggesting, but now, you actually needed the comfort and luck the sweater brought you. โ€œThanks, Michael,โ€ you replied, your voice etched with gratefulness. What on earth would you do without these two?

โ€œNow, go on, child, and spread your wings!โ€ Michael said, pushing you towards the door while Will handed you your backpack and weapons. They had also packed your arrows and quiver for you, as well as your dagger, drinker of light.

โ€œAlright, alright. Geez. I didnโ€™t think you wanted me gone so badly.โ€ You joked, raising your hands in defense.

Michael grinned, โ€œWill and I need some guy time. Canโ€™t have that with you around.โ€

Another roll of your eyes was directed at the two sons of Apollo as they waved you off, โ€œIโ€™m so offended.โ€ you called over your shoulder, sarcastically. As you walked away from Cabin Seven, you looked around to see if you could spot Connor and Travis. You wanted to say goodbye to them before you were off to save Clarisse from whatever trouble she had got herself into.

Luckily, you did not have to search all two long for the sons of Hermes. They popped up beside you, linking their arms with yours and walking alongside you. โ€œWhere do you think youโ€™re going, Legolas?โ€ Connor asked.

โ€œYou werenโ€™t going to leave without saying goodbye, were you?โ€ Travis added.

You could not help but laugh and at the same time, you felt tears well up. Ever since you first stepped foot inside the magical barrier of Camp Half-Blood, they had treated you as if you were their own sister and here they were, seeing you off for your first quest. โ€œI would not dare,โ€ you replied, beaming.

โ€œWe have something for you,โ€ Travis announced as he and Connor lead you to the entrance of the camp, where Argus was waiting to take you to Phoenix, Arizona.

    โ€œWhat is it?โ€

The sons of Hermes shared a look before they handed you a horribly wrapped gift, both looking at you with excitement. They seemed really proud of the package they had given you.

You tilted your head slightly, eyebrows raised questionably. For a moment, you wondered if the gift was going to explode. The look on Travis and Connorโ€™s faces was not mischievous but genuinely excited. You carefully unwrapped the gift, crumbling up the wrapping paper and handing it to Connor. When you saw the gift, you were speechless.

In your hand was a leather holster fitted for a dagger. It had a little smiley-face and stick-figure drawings on it and they looked hand-carved. Admittedly, it looked like a toddler had gotten their hands on it. โ€œWhat is this?โ€ you asked, not knowing what else to say.

โ€œYour very own thigh holster for that dagger of yours!โ€ Travis announced, โ€œItโ€™s custom made. . . see, if you turn it over, it has your name in it!โ€

You examined the piece of leather and saw your name etched in the bottom, net to a circle that was supposed to represent the sun. It looked like it was covering something up and it caused you to narrow your eyes suspiciously, โ€œWhere did you steal this from?โ€

A mock gasp escaped the lips of the two males in front of you. โ€œHow dare you imply such a thing?โ€ Travis exclaimed.

โ€œWould we steal something like that?โ€ Connor added though the mischievous wink that followed was answered enough.

โ€œYouโ€™re lucky I have somewhere to be and I donโ€™t have time to continue this conversation.โ€ You said, placing the gift in your backpack, โ€œBut thank you. I really appreciate it.โ€ You stood on your toes to give the two brothers a hug.

โ€œGood luck, Arrow girl,โ€ Travis said.

โ€œCamp will be boring without you,โ€ Connor added.

You rolled your eyes, but could not seem to wipe the smile off of your lips. โ€œRight. Youโ€™ll just have to make do. Iโ€™ll be back before you know it.โ€ You said your goodbyes and started to walk towards the car that was waiting for you. Turning around, you gave the Stoll brothers one last wave before you stepped in the car.

    Your quest had officially begun.

Daylight comes flowing from your green vault. You measure and pour out a beaker of twilight bloodredness. Gliding and whirling, many miles wide, your ocean storms come into shore.

With all its trying and giving up, the moonโ€™s cap falls off the back of its head as it lifts to see you. Every morning the birds reword their praising, the songs they sing, by musicians already with you inside the grass.

Spirit wants to see. Love wants a lover. You swt flowing four flowing through the orchard. Pure stream water, glowing honey, fresh milk, dark red wine. You do not give me a chance. Wine on top of wine, I have no head, no way to describe this cup.

In a sky restless and changing the moon wears a silver belt. Every detail, every feature of every thing, shows how that one is in love.

We strain and ask, then grow tired of talking. The reed flute crying with breath gets quiet. As we open your door, please be there. Be held by a gratefulness that wants you head to do.
