Mythology rant time:
Ok so it really pisses me off how much our society sexualizes and/or demonizes medusa despite the fact that the whole reason shes a gorgon (according to Metamorphoses) is because she was r*aped.
If you dont know the actual myth, medusa was a pretty human lady who was sexually assaulted by Poseidon in the temple of athena, so athena (depending on sources) either
1) was pissed that her temple was defiled and turned her into a gorgon
2) turned her into a gorgon in order to protect her from ever being taken advantage of again
But either way, medusa is a gorgon because she was assaulted, yet everyone just ignores that and says “well that’s rough but dude shes kinda hot tho”.
And while shes been sexualized a lot, shes also been demonized. Shown as a monster only interested in destruction and death. OR shes portrayed as a mixture of both. A women who seduces men just to kill them like a black widow.
Anyway, I’m done, medusa wasnt an evil monster or a sexy snake lady. She’s a r*pe victim who was turned into a monster because of it
I’m done ranting now thanks for listening
O Great and loving Hestia,
Sister of all the Olympians and keeper of the eternal flame,
You are so generous in your tending of all fires
And your protection of all homes.
For it is you who in choosing eternal maidenhood
Took up the duty of the hearth.
And indeed in this, Lady Hestia, you serve us well.
Thank you, O Goddess, for your warmth
and gentle murmur of comfort.
You are the difference between a house and a home.
for all my fellow practicioners, if you have not cleansed whatever space you’re inhabiting this month, FUCKING DO IT
my wards expire on the 18th of every month. yesterday my anxiety was really really bad and I couldn’t figure out why until I looked at my windows. I completely forgot to re-ward on Sunday.
so if you don’t feel like having a full-blown panic attack or getting psychologically attacked all day, RE-WARD!!!
luckily i didn’t try to spell cast or communicate with my deities yesterday, that would’ve been…. awful.
edit: also, I use charcoal incense for cleansing, and it smells really good. it doesn’t even really smell like charcoal. as soon as i lit the incense, it smelled like burning wood. straight up burning shit. and it was giving me a headache up until the stick was like halfway burnt and then went smelling normal again.
even my incense was mad at me for not re-warding. whoop-dee-dee.

y’all know that there are actual hellenic people living right now right? like not everyone is just a fan of greek myths and talking shit on the gods. people actually practice this real religion.
Me: The new Hades game has me in the mood. I think I’m going to attempt my first reading of The Iliad after years of only reading The Odyssey.
My Brain: *bombards me with reminders of my childhood crushes on Apollo, Artemis, Athena, Hermes, and many other deities that have yet to recede somehow*
Me: I deserve smiting.
my hot take is that Persephone would LOVE hayley williams’ Petals for armour album
In my personal experience as a Hellenist, I find Hermes and Apollo to be very gentle, patient, generous, and benevolent. Establish a genuine relationship with them and you’d be surprised how much help and support they give. A quarter of an inch of effort stretches for many miles with them. When you’re in a tight spot, better believe they’ve got your back!
They are two of the wisest and most intelligent teachers/mentors I could ever ask for. The virtues I see in them, they help bring out in me. So that I may grow as a person, become better than I am. Which in turn, leads me to help others in the way I was taught, over and over again.
In these little ways, we do as individuals have the ability to change the world around us. Starting with the communities we are a part of. Just the simple act of changing yourself changes the dynamic with others. It changes patterns for the better. That subtle shift in your tone and perspective can help others see things differently and thus, react differently.
