It's January 25th, National Tourism Day in 🐯 India. This special day promotes India's scenic beauty; and historical, architectural, cultural, ethnic, and bio diversity as prominent aspects of India's tourism industry, which is an important part of the nation's economy. According to government statistics, in 2015, tourism employed 40 million people and contributed $124.8 billion to India's gross domestic product (GDP). Today, the nation is among the fastest-growing tourist destinations on the planet. It's easy to see why.

India is one of the world's oldest civilizations. It's a country where in some places, ethnicity, culture, and language can change with every kilometer. Each and every region of the country has a rich legacy that's commemorated in various ways. Tourism is a great way to educate the rest of the world (including other regions of India).

India is a tourist’s paradise with a dazzling array of natural environments of glistening beaches, resplendent 🌲 forests, majestic 🏔️ mountains, and an arid 🌵 desert – all populated with rare and beautiful wildlife. The people congregate in everything from modern, busy cities to primitive, rural villages, and everything in between.

Today is a great day to visit India – whether in-person or via 🎥 movie, 📺 TV show, 🐘 documentary, or 📚 book. Have fun learning about and acquiring a deeper appreciation for this fascinating country. ☮️ Peace… Jamiese of Pixoplanet

    Happy Squirrel Appreciation Day!

Squirrels are part of the taxonomic family Sciuridae, which includes small to medium sized rodents, from the usual suspects as well as chipmunks, marmots, and prairie dogs.

Squirrels are found all over the world, indigenous to all parts except Australia where they were introduced by humans. Nature's acrobats live in both trees and on the ground with different species active at all times of the day. From their complex underground burrows to their flights through the air with the greatest of ease, these mammals are certainly worth appreciating.

Collie's Squirrels (Sciurus colliaei), tree-dwelling diurnal herbivores, which are native to Mexico. SciArt by John Woodhouse Audubon for The Quadrupeds of North America, Vol. 3 (1854) by John James Audubon and John Bachman, which has been digitized and included for open access in Biodiversity Heritage Library (@biodivlibrary).

my spanish teacher was so nice about my abilities in the language today she was like ‘lucy’s going to be helping in the class she has a very advanced level of spanish and has worked hard at it’ which like. i am not as good as she claims i am but it was very sweet

#also i’ve been chatting with her and it turns out i’m actually Not as terrible w spoken spanish as i thought #idk. i think it’s easy to feel like i’m not good enough especially since even though i’ve always been in native/heritage speaker classes #i’m. Not really either of those things? so i’ve always worried that i don’t deserve to be there a little #but like. then again sometimes i listen to music or talk to someone in spanish and i’m like man this is another language. #and i totally do speak it! not PERFECTLY but you know #she speaks.l #also (& now i’m just rambling) i think i should lean into my spain spanish accent which i feel like has somewhat… neutralized? in the US #and also start saying agur to people again idc it’s what feels natural LMAO #the amount of times i’ve almost said agur to my spanish teacher (from madrid) . welll #also i used to literally just use tú not usted when i was a kid so i’m pretty sure i have probably offended some adults here #i’ve since learned but idk when i first learned spanish i feel like i referred to my teachers w tú #pero a lo mejor no fue así no sé #but also once i saw some website saying in the basque country the use of tú instead of usted is even more common than the rest of spain so #mayhaps that had to do with it? idk man. i’m just saying things #anyway going to go read a chapter of bolaño which i’m forcing myself to do every day to practice

Boxing Day is traditionally a big drinking day in the Inner West - Australia-wide, actually - mainly revolving around watching and/or playing the national summer sport, cricket. So here's yet more pubs...

"The Rock". Bald Rock Hotel (1876). Among the oldest continuously trading pubs still operating in the Inner West; rock solid Sydney Sandstone. There used to be a balcony around the first floor, but it was demolished decades ago as unsafe. Named after an outcrop of sandstone nearby, on which no vegetation grew, which was heavily quarried out for local building material by the end of the 19th century. Balmain.

Today is the solstice, so now that Lena has magic, I want one or all of the following:

Lena's magical potency increasing unexpectedly, leading to mishaps and shenanigans

Someone locating Lena based on the sheer volume of magical energy she possesses, thereby becoming her new magical mentor, teaching her how to honor the moon and harness its power to boost her spells, potions, and charms

Lena having recurring dreams leading up to the solstice, about a person she's never met or place she's never been, but still feels familiar. In the waking world she starts feeling a pull that leads her to said person or place, where she meets up with National City's other witches at a place that's actually a magical nexus of some kind

Lena's dreams are of an old woman, who turns out to be her grandmother, who has spent years trying to connect with Lena via their magic, and due to the power of the solstice and Lena's magical awakening, she can finally make contact and tell her to come visit to meet the rest of her mother's family

So yeah. Basically just more witchy stuff. Because the solstice is important. Even better if Lena's first solstice as a witch occurs on a full moon.
