Explained | Is genetically modified rice grown in India?

Explained | Is genetically modified rice grown in India?

The story so far: A French manufacturer of rice flour claimed it had found unauthorised genetically modified rice in a consignment of 500 tonnes of broken rice imported from India this June. Since the European Union does not permit any use of GM rice, manufacturers of confectionery items and baked goods which had used the rice flour were then forced to carry out a mass recall of products. After a…

Things to NOT say in response to Hindu Genocide

What we say sitting at our dinner tables is important. Society and culture are made of us and we can determine what our cultural beliefs are. Regulate your conversations by ensuring your words are not anti-Hindu.

    This is an isolated incident.

Absolutely not. Mandirs, mandaps and Hindus themselves are being attacked every single year. Saying this is just an attempt to minimise the magnitude of atrocities committed against Hindus in Bangladesh.
Eminent Bangladeshi economist and researcher Dr Abul Barkat says that there will be no Hindus left in the country three decades from now. This is because an average of 600 Hindus flee Bangladesh every single day. Many have experienced systemic persecution, had their land snatched, have witnessed police/government apathy towards them or have been violently attacked.
It's time we face the reality and stand up for the Hindus who have unjustly suffered in their own country for decades.

These attackers are not true Muslims.

Who is a true Muslim and who is not is irrelevant here. We only felt the need to differentiate ourselves from these attackers because we don't want to take responsibility. But have we ensured our offices, neighborhoods and schools are safe for Hindus? Don't we insult Hindus for practicing their religion? Don't we degrade Hinduism to some stereotypes? Have we ever stood up to them? Don't we brush off their massacre as political and communal? Have we ever included Hindus in our activism?
There were thousands of attackers this week. Multiple more share the same ideology. Are all these hundreds of thousands of people not Muslims? Why are we okay with them using Islam for violence?

This is not what Islam says. My religion is not like this.

Again another way to reject responsibility. We preach Hinduphobic statements to our children, predominantly, "Hindus are cow piss drinkers" "Hindus are dirty" "Red ants are Hindus because they bite" "Hindus don't love Bangladesh, they only love India" "Hindus don't eat meat because they are cowards." If religion does not promote hatred, why are we all spreading it? Why aren't we spreading messages of religious coexistence and peace through Waz Mehfils, prominent religious leaders, Madarsas?
If we can be so angry about a Koran on an idol's lap (This week we learnt that the allegation of Hindus disrespecting the Qur'an by placing it on a Sri Hanuman Murthi was false. It was a Muslim, possibly linked to far right Islamist / Islamofascist groups who did this to try to justify murder, rape and destruction.), why are we not more angry about thousands of Muslims being violent in the name of Islam?

Bangladesh is a secular and non-communal country.

Have enough Mandirs, Mandapam and Hindus not been attacked to break this illusion? The ground reality is far more important than what's written on pen and paper. For the longest time, Hindus have not been safe, there have been systematic discrimination against them that the state has failed to address and we have turned a blind eye to it all.

There have been conspiracies to hurt Bangladesh's development and spirit of Liberation War.

Multiple verified news outlets are sharing news on the attacks happening. Thousands of families are victims of mass violence and there are numerous witnesses. This is the lived experience of thousands of Bangladeshis whose biggest festival got tarnished because of hatred and bigotry in Bangladesh. Calling all this a lie or a conspiracy is extremely derisive and discourteous. If the militants are incapacitating something we hold dear, are we taking sufficient steps to ensure that they are being sufficiently punished?

Hindus are extremely privileged and safe in Bangladesh.

A handful of Hindus doing relatively better than the rest doesn't mean millions of Hindus are safe.
    2013 onwards:-
    3679 attacks on Hindus.
559 houses of Hindu community being vandalised and set on fire.
442 shops of Hindu community being vandalised and set on fire.
1678 cases of vandalism and arson attacks on temples, idols and places of worship.
Other than that, multifarious incidents of targeted looting, sexual assaults and evictions.

Bangladeshi Hindus are better off than Indian Muslims.

    Hindus in Bangladesh (1947)- 29.7%
    Hindus in Bangladesh (1971)- 20%
    Hindus in Bangladesh (2011)- 8.5%
    Muslims in India (1951)- 9.9%
    Muslims in India (2011)- 14.2%
Why are me making oppression a competition? Millions of Hindus in Bangladesh is made to feel unwelcomes, unsafe and disrespected even though they are the citizens of Bangladesh as much as Muslims are and have all the civil rights that the Muslims have. It should be enough reason for all of us to be outraged about attacks on them. There's no pride but only Hinduphobia and blatant ignominy in these kind of statements.

We might just be the generation which is known for turning a blind eye to an ETHNOCIDE happening in our own backyards, just because the victim's didn't fit into our colonized worldview. Let the future generations know that some of us did not keep quiet. Let them know that some of us held out our necks and spoke out. We drew, we wrote, we fought and screamed for our voices to be heard. Let them know, that some of us refused to be cuckolded by politically correct imbeciles who couldn't see beyond their own narrow lenses and stubborn biases.

You don't have to be Hindu to support Bangladeshi Hindus. You just have to be a human.
