    Politics

    With recent (real-life) events happening in the USA, it’s interesting to see where the authors thought we’d be in 2050:

    Apparently by then we figure out how to break the 2-party Democrat/Republican system. In addition to the Libertarians hanging in there, bless their fiscally conservative, socially liberal hearts, we have the Technocratic party, pushing a “platform of technology as the salvation of the UCAS”, and the Archconservative party, whose platform is likely “let’s return to the way things were in 1850”.

    The Technocracy Party was not able to nominate a single delegate. Yet…

    Metroplexes

    The NAGNA has separate sections on three UCAS cities:

    New York. Sigh. Okay. Despite my naysaying of NYC, I’m sure there are people who want to see what the City That Never Sleeps is up to.

    Washington, D.C., or “DeeCee”, as it is called by its stripper name. It’s the capital. Makes sense.

    Script if you wanna read:

    From the developers of the iconic Left 4 Dead, and the well-known, but not too well recieved Evolve,

    Back 4 Blood looks to bring Turtle Rock Studios back to the limelight.

    Made as a spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead, as the name implies,

    it brings back the Left 4 Dead formula, and adds a lot more.

    What looks like increased zombie counts, re-imagined special infected,

    and setpiece moments unlike a Left 4 Dead,

    seems to bring about another age of loving a director-based zombie survival game.

    The director is the AI under the hood that is determining zombie spawns,

    special infected spawns, and item spawns.

    In this game though, they have added setpiece moments to the director,

    so some level will have a super climactic,

    big enemy showdown, and if you play the same level again, it might not happen.

    This keeps the game feeling fresh, and keeps content, not barred from people,

    but set for a more dynamic experience between different players in different sessions.

    The games maps are set into different acts, or as I'll call them for the video,

    levels that are each around 10 minutes.

    The map we got in beta has 7 acts, but not sure if that will be the standard.

    Left 4 Dead had differing campaign lengths, so we'll see.

    These are my first impressions after playing the open beta for the first time.

    Due to it being a beta, things are subject to change by launch day.

    The zombies, or as known as this game, the Ridden,

    are the main enemy in this game.

    The special infected look even more grotesque, and they have certain special abilities.

    Some have a grab attack, some vomit at you,

    and some even explode when they die to try to shoot you off the level into a death pit.

    There's even a spider-like climber special infected that throws acid balls at you.

    They have weak points, easily pointed out by glowing red parts of their body.

    Shoot these and you'll see the yellow crit hitmarker (with default settings).

    The gunplay feels kind of like battle royales, with different attachments

    with mulitple tiers allowing for cusotmizaiton of a weapon throughout the game.

    These effect things like aim down sight time, reload speed, ammo capacity, and other weapon stats.

    Different weapons can hold different amounts, and kinds of attachments.

    Aiming down sights feels slow compared to how fast the game wants to be.

    Also, at default settings, on console, it felt like the aim assist was way too strong.

    I turned it off, and it felt much better to play,

    so I would recommend messing with those settings if it feels off.

    In general, there seems to be look acceleration,

    so the longer you hold the look stick, the faster it starts to go,

    instead of being based solely on what the stick is doing.

    You can unlock cards in game to change some stats about the game, or your player/team.

    There wasn't too many of these in the beta, but at the beginning of every level, you draw a hand of cards,

    and can select one to add to your active cards.

    These don't go away after the level, and gradually you will get more powerful along with your teammates,

    but watch out the game also will get harder, with corruption cards.

    Although, if you do die, your team gets 3 continues,

    and you'll get to reselect from the cards you selected from at the beginning of that level.

    The gameflow itself is great.

    I never felt myself feeling lost at all, and the level design is amazing.

    The artstyle brings it all together, with a dark atmosphere, but bright tones around.

    This keeps important stuff more visible, especially enemy weak points.

    You don't regen health automatically, but there are cards to help,

    with bandages, pain pills, and medkits around too, just like in Left 4 Dead.

    Common Ridden hitting you doesn't have much oomph to it though,

    most times I was getting hit the only way I really noticed was the red indicators that tel you where damage is coming from.

    Health is more plentiful though, so you can take more hits without worrying about dying.

    You do get crowded easily, and like in Left 4 Dead, geting hit slows you down to a crawl.

    The characters so far aren't anything to write home about, which this game is most likely going to need,

    but I forsee more characters in the full game, and in the future.

    I also expect very obivous references to Left 4 Dead to be in the game as well.

    Their dialogue is more thoughout, and they have actual things to say,

    unlike most Left 4 Dead quotes, which a lot were meant to be comedic.

    This seems like a more serious game, with a more cartoony, outlined artstyle.

    This game has stamina, so you have to be careful of what you are doing.

    Running, run jumping, and punching drain stamina, among other things, so make sure you have some when you need it.

    You get plenty to use, but using it too much will leave you fending off Ridden while it recharges.

    Around the map, you'll find copper coins,

    and these are used at the shop at the beginning of each level.

    You can buy utilities, like pipebombs, and medkits, ammo for each of the ammo types, team upgrades,

    2 randomized guns of random tier, as well as 2 randomized attachments of random tier.

    There is plenty of weapon variety in this game,

    with SMGS, ARs, Shotguns, Snipers, Pistols, and Melee, among others.

    There's even variants of weapons as well.

    I was able to find a full-auto glock that shot a full clip almost instantly.

    You'll also find chests around the map that you may be able to open,

    some are locked and need a toolkit to open.

    These will usually have guns or ammo inside.

    After levels you will get supply points, which are used to unlock cards.

    There were 61 cards in total in the alpha a while ago, not sure about now,

    but you have plenty to play with for the next few days.

    Hope you guys enjoyed, I did, this game has me hyped for the full launch,

    and I've been pre-ordered since the first days you could.

    thinking about how call of duty has such insanely piss poor feedback for killing enemies that they had to add the now iconic hitmarker noise to pvp otherwise it would feel so outrageously bad it wouldnt even be funny

    Career Research

     I looked at career roadmaps first to give myself an outline of what to create. 

    [source] I used this as a guide for my career roadmaps. 

    Next I had to look into careers I would want to do. I already have it refined to Freelance, Social Media Management and Esports Team Management. I looked at job listings to give me an idea of what I will need to know and what to expect when I graduate. 

    I looked on Hitmarker for a few jobs as I’d find things I find more interesting. This made me consider different job roles, the knowledge and programmes needed to get them and the software I’ll want to learn quickly. 

    This job requires a lot more experience but it was useful in showing me what tools and skills are more desirable for a social media manager. 

    This job with a good detailed ‘We’re looking for’ was useful. I want to work in social media for esports if possible. It shows how much is expected of you, how much knowledge and passion they’re looking for as well as a huge range of skills.  

    I also looked at a social media position for another esports company, this one has clearer requirements and desires. 

    I also looked at a job as a team manager for an esports team, this is a job I would need a lot more experience to do but it shows what esports organisations are looking for in their managers.

    Next I took to Linked In to look for job roles as a social media manager/content creator. 

    For work in managing esports I read this British Esports Association article which lists roles an organisation manager would need to do however a lot of it is transferable. 

    For freelance work I looked at this article that provided me with some good first steps for getting myself out there. There’s still a lot I need to learn about freelance work but it’s not something I’m as interested in for the time being.

    The treatment these kids are getting online is honestly so sad to see. Everyone’s acting as if they deserve to get literal Public Ridicule of thousands of people. They’re just kids??? They’re literally just kids. They don’t deserve to get cyber bullied for writing fanfiction.

    It’s also such an empty argument, saying the ccs have nothing to do with it because they’ve made the warning saying not to send hate and this was all in good fun. You have a platform though. If no one was responsible for the actions their following did PR teams wouldn’t exist. You’re the one putting these people under the spotlight, might as well just draw a red hitmark on their back. It’s all affecting them in the same way.
