People have been making fun of Greta Gerwig for years for her movies been too white. Even though she only has two movies, the second of which being LITTLE WOMEN which is some of the whitest source material you can get.
Yet here is Ari Aster with his third film. Big cast so far entirely white and nobody says a thing. Nobody said a thing after his 2nd movie that was as well very white (and for good reason but adapting Little Women is a better reason and only Greta gets that criticism.)
Not to mention almost every male director who acts like they never saw a person of color in their life before 2017, nobody says a thing about their filmographies.
Female director have to deal with so much useless crap just because they are outliers so when they get noticed they get picked apart. A lot of the times for nothing. And I’m only taking about white women. Any women from a marginalized group that directs has to deal with that and SO MUCH more needlessness.
No I’m not saying directors have to add diversity i their films. It’s their art they can do whatever they want but you have to be looking the other way if you don’t see how people criticizing Greta for things that people with 13 movies under their belt don’t get is ridiculous.
