Screw coffee, wake up in the morning by slipping on a patch of ice and catching yourself before you fall, standing as a pillar of defiant glory in the face of winter’s bitter resentment of your very existence!

Went for a winter stroll through one of my happy places today and was surprised how much I missed it’s stillness and beauty.
(All photos are unedited and taken by me. Feel free to share but give credit.)
In the foreground is an enby squatting on the sidewalk while writing with green chalk. They are wearing a green long-sleeved sweater, a long black skirt, black shoes, and a rose gold Star of David necklace and have fair skin and waist length brown hair. They are facing towards the viewer but their face is not visible. There is a grey notebook in their lap.
The writing in green says “ICE Agents:” in all caps. Behind the enby is a uniformed ICE agent in front of a door. They have light skin and are wearing a baseball cap.

I went to a protest in honor of the anniversary of the order to incarcerate Japanese-Americans during World War II on Friday. Some of those in attendance had personally been interned, and one of the speakers was born in Manzanar. She talked about how she wishes that her non-Japanese neighbors had done something when her parents were rounded up and how that inspires her to act in solidarity for immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.
During the speeches I reached out the ICE agents by writing the information about how to get confidential job search assistance from Never Again Action in chalk. Normally we would hand out fliers, but it wouldn’t be safe for the ICE agents to accept them at work. Never Again Action has already helped ICE agents quit their jobs and I hope that our protest will inspire more to get help finding a job that doesn’t separate families or hurt communities.
