Timothee Chalamet Illustration – 2019 (artist/illustrator)
After my last ink drawing of Lily Collins at the Met Gala, I was keen to experiment more with this style of illustration. Timothee Chalamet is usually my go-to subject when it comes to experimenting with illustration styles, as my Instagram followers will be able to tell you. I took a reference of Timothee lying beautifully in the grass (as you do, when you’re Timothee Chalamet) and turned it into this stylised piece in one sitting at The Coffee Bean one lazy weekend afternoon.
Made with 0.3 Artline pen and black Sharpie.
Lily Collins Illustration – 2019 (artist/illustrator)
My cousin sent me a reference of Lily Collins at the Met Gala one day and I fell in love with the symmetry and drama of her ensemble. I was also dissatisfied with the amount of braid that was visible in the photo, so I took the liberty of giving her a ton on my own. :)
Made with 0.3 Artline pen, black Sharpie and a bit of red marker.
“That’s Life” - Joker Illustration – 2019 (artist/illustrator)
I went to watch Joker in the cinema twice when it came out. Twice! I’ve never gone to the cinema to see the same movie more than once before, but this one was worth it. Oh. My. Goodness, it was worth it.
The first time I watched the movie, I was so floored by everything about it – the acting, the cinematography, the direction, the storyline, the writing, the little nuances, the emotions – that I came home, whipped out my journal and immediately got to work on this drawing just to keep the excitement going and make sense of it all. We got home close to midnight, and I spent the next four hours totally engrossed in finishing this illustration.
Made with 0.4 Uni Pin fineliner pen; red, green and blue Stabilo markers; black gel pen; white gel pen and black Sharpie in an A5 Monologue journal.
And remember, ladies and gentlemen…
Joyful Sloth, I can’t wait to take this to the painting stage. It’s one of those sketches that needs these subtlety of color. Inspired by a friend whose whimsical nature is always so infectious.
Surprise! Jolteon was pretending to be your tamago! 😱
This is late because I’m out of town and you can read my blog to find out why I missed one last week! Maybe I’ll do two next week! Any suggestions??

IKEA Mural Painting – 2019 (painter)
Last year I got to work on one of my favourite projects so far – painting a mural for a children’s bedroom display in IKEA! I grew up perusing and dog-earing every IKEA catalogue that passed through our house, and feeling like every trip to IKEA was the most magical experience ever. Getting to contribute to the IKEA magic through this project was one of those dream-come-true experiences for me. I’m also very happy to say that working behind-the-scenes and seeing how everything comes together did nothing to diminish my love for IKEA – if anything, it made me appreciate the whole experience even more. The team of interior designers who supervised us were lovely and so passionate about their job, and truly made our whole three days there so wonderful.
Here are some pictures of the finished result!
We would like to point out that we can’t take credit for the red heart shape painted on the wall – that was added after we’d finished our part. We did do the green and white stripes, the two clowns (one of which isn’t pictured here) and the orange-and-white-striped umbrella with the rope ladder.
Joss Stone Illustration – 2019 (artist/illustrator)
In 2019, Joss Stone had an open contest for artists to create the artwork for her next album cover, Remixes of Water for Your Soul. I’m a big fan of Joss and her work, so I decided to try my luck. The result was this super colourful, psychedelic portrait of her. I didn’t end up winning, but I’m glad I joined the contest because I’m pretty happy with how this illustration turned out!
The line art was sketched out in pencil and inked with black gel pen on sketchbook paper.
I then scanned the drawing and coloured it in in Photoshop with my Wacom Cintiq. You can check out a bit of the line art process in this little vlog I made of that week in my life!
