When most places have gone dark and musicians are also cancelling gigs. Spike at @smallsjazzclub kept the lights on, the drinks flowing and the musicians playing until the wee hours of the morning. As did many other Jazz clubs in the City. Spike even helmed the piano himself for a few sets to give people a place to go. This weekend I got to check out what #Jazz is about. A bunch of people from all walks of life coming together to hang and musicians just riffing and impressing each other.
In light of all the news, this was probably my last night out for a while. Time to dust off the books, head to the garden, strike up the firepit and read. Go for long solo walks and wave at people I know or do an elbo bump—
The tragedy will be the innumerable number of deaths this disease will cause. But as tragic, will be the insurmountable number of small businesses GLOBALLY that will not weather this storm. Being a small business owner in NYC, I look at our numbers and am adapting not daily, but hourly at how we will adapt. But as I like to say. Assess, Adapt, Conquer…. —
Go out and support small businesses, buy band merch, buy creatives physical artwork. And when this #COVID19 is a distant memory get out in droves to support the arts and small businesses.—
