“Cute - A Wolfstar One Shot”
Remus Lupin and Sirius Black always had a weird sense of humour between them. They would say the most random stuff to eachother and everyone else, like how they were actually Ministry officials who’ve taken Polyjuice potion to look like Hogwarts students so they can secretly report about the school, that they were secretly time travellers who wanted to relive their youth because the future is one fucked up place. But perhaps the one closest to the truth was they were in a relationship.
The two of them had this undefined chemistry between them that no one could explain, it initially started as an inside joke when some Slytherins found them at the back of castle grounds and said they would make a ‘perfect couple’ in a disparaging tone, Sirius simply said “We are!” and kissed Remus on the cheek. After the Slytherins left, they both said it would just be something to add to their little scenarios and inside jokes and that would be it.
But it was much more then that. It awoke an emotion that neither of the two boys had ever felt before. The once over-dramatic, confident, cocky Sirius Black was now an awkward little lad, Remus was already socially awkward but it was magnified seven fold. Nearly everyone noticed it, everyone but the two boys themselves. “It’s just a joke, part of our silly humour” they would tell themselves and others, well it was more trying to convince others really. Some people would drop subtle hints, James Potter would never interrupt them if they were talking and Peter Pettigrew would make sure they partnered up in class. Others, like Dorcas Meadowes and Marlene McKinnon would say things like “same sex relationships aren’t gross you know”. There was rumours that people were running bets as to when they would finally realise their emotions as well.
One evening, it was just Remus and Sirius in the dorm, James was serving detention and Peter was in the library. They were sitting on their adjacent four poster beds, Remus was reading and Sirius was practicing his make up, with which he had recently become obsessed with.
“You alright there, Moons?” Sirius said looking up from his mirror.
Remus hadn’t even realised that he had been staring at Sirius instead of his book.
“Yeah, of course I am. You?”
“Yeah, I’m alright. I would be better if I could get my eyeliner right.”
“It looks great, Pads.”
The awkward tension that had risen between them since that day on the grounds was in the room.
“Are all the rumours annoying you?” Remus asked.
“Umm, a bit, I guess. I just don’t really like the idea of people running bets around me and my friend.”
That last word felt like a knife in Remus’ chest.
“My family used to run bets about how long it would take for my parents to snap and kill me or kick me out the house or something.”
“Holy shit, that’s horrible.”
“Yeah it was, they stopped when I ran away. But, I’d rather die then see them again.”
“We’re your family now anyway.”
“Best one I could ask for! What do you make of them?”
“I try not to focus on it.”
“Fair enough. What do you focus on instead?”
“School-work and friends.”
“I hope the ‘friends’ bit includes me.”
What Remus said shocked the both of them. The conversation of the rumours added a possible infliction to the word. Remus felt the heat of his embarrassment running to his face, he tried to hide this with his book but Sirius walked over, pulled the book out of his hands and said: “You’re cute when your embarrassed” and casually made his way back to his bed.
Remus couldn’t handle the revelation his mind had just made.
“Cute? I’m a werewolf, ‘cute’ is hardly the word I’d use to describe me.” He said, walking to stand over Sirius’ bed.
“What word would you rather have then? Intimidating, fearsome, powerful, animalistic, strong? There’s plenty to go around!” He said in a tone of provoking.
“I don’t know, just not ‘cute’!”
Sirius stood up, his face a few inches from Remus’. He felt his chest tighten as his breath escaped him at the sight of those storm grey eyes.
“You’re cute when you’re flustered as well.”
Remus couldn’t handle it anymore, he grabbed Sirius around the waist and crashed their lips together in an explosion of longing and passion.
Sirius was breathless when Remus pulled away.
“I’m guessing the ‘friends’ bit doesn’t include me then?” He said with a smirk.
They kissed again and didn’t notice that the door had opened to James who gleefully exclaimed “Fucking finally!” He turned to shout down to the common room “Right, who had June 18th?”
The two laughed, but quickly focused back to each other. Sirius was staring at Remus, examining every millimetre of his face.
“What is it?” Remus asked, curious as to what his boyfriend was staring at.
“You. You’re so cute.”
“Seriously, find another word.”
“I’ll think of one, I solemnly swear! In the meantime…”
He leaned in to kiss Remus once more. In that moment, nothing could stop them. No Slytherins, no bets, nothing. They were together, they had each other, that’s all they needed.
