The moment I emotionally invested:
Ooooh! Episode 4 of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger was so interesting! It was the first ep where he learned something more about Joe Gibken. I love it that he's such an awesome sword fighter, probably the best of the pirate crew. The training sequence was so intriguing, the way he continued to fight on even after getting slashed, fighting through the pain, not giving up. It makes you wonder about who he was before he joined Marvelous' pirate crew.
I honestly love it when kid shows feature actually interesting, deeply personal stories!

My love for foreign films is precisely why I can’t commit to learning ONE language at a time 😭
thinking about making a side blogs for the shows im watching rn
I must say that the premiere of Kei×Yaku: Abunai Aibou was truly outstanding! As in, the case is actually intriguing, a real thriller with many threads, reaching high up. It's a legitimately good detective story, a sight rarely seen in the BL genre.
But what I liked best? That it turned the undercover cop trope on its proverbial head when Ichiro told Shiro the actual truth about who he was and what was going on. That was a surprising twist, IMO! I can't wait to see where it's headed!
Our heroine, gazing worshipfully at the Shinsengumi leader and who can blame her - two swords, one glower and all a babe!
She is an inspiration to fangirls everywhere, since clearly if you are persistent, your crush can also tie you up:
And make you his...ahem...page.
Also, this was utterly hilarious:
No duh!!! Who’d have thought!
For a drama that basically turned the Shinsengumi into members of a supernatural boyband, they surprisingly picked actors who bear some resemblance to the real men!
Obviously photo guy is older and balder, but the mouth and shape of nose are quite similar imo. And same for this gentleman:
I don’t think an actual verified photo of the man exists, so I am just sticking it here for completeness’ sake.
Finally a BL drama that didn't make me feel like I was ingesting empty calories while watching it. Because that's the overwhelming feeling I've had lately, that all BL dramas as of late are empty and without any substance, all stuffings and no real core.
But after finishing this one, I honestly didn't feel like I wasted my time, I felt like I watched actual art. The cinematography, the music and its timing, the performances... everything simply clicked.
That said, it doesn't mean I found the characters actually likable. Not at all. Not at first, at least. It took me a while to get them - and to get into them. But that was good so! It meant that they were flawed and human, multilayered and multifaceted.
The story was mostly told from Hira's POV but when we were finally allowed to see all that happened from Kiyoi's side too... wow. It was the perfect example of an "unreliable narrator" storytelling. Or, when you get to see everything from just one person's POV, much gets lost. Wonderful!
