Review- Fear Street Part Three: 1666 (2021)

Review- Fear Street Part Three: 1666 (2021)

Following on directly from Part Two, Fear Street Part Three: 1666 begins with Deena (Kiana Madeira) reuniting the severed hand of Sarah Fier (Elizabeth Scopel) with the rest of her corpse. Unfortunately there is a side effect! Deena gets visions showing the events of 1666 from the perspective of Sarah Fier herself (with Kiana Madeira “becoming” Fier for the purpose of the audience). Sarah lives…

Based on the Fear Street book series by R.L. Stine, Leigh Janiak’s trilogy opener Fear Street Part One: 1994 stars Kiana Madeira, Olivia Scott Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., Julia Rehwald, Fred Hechinger, Ashley Zukerman, Darrell Britt-Gibson and Maya Hawke. The film is clearly a homage to 1990’s horror with clear nods to likes of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer among others, but is being…

Fear Street Part One: 1994 | A Fast Paced Entertaining Intro to Horror

    #FearStreet1994 | A Fast Paced Entertaining Intro to Horror #netflix #review #fearstreet

Unless it’s a spoof on horror movies / slasher film I’m usually out, but for some reason this one intrigued me. I think it’s because of R.L. Stine giving that he writes scary stories for preteens I figure I could probably handle this one. Fear Street 1994 is the first part of a trilogy, each movie goes back in time until we get to the origin of what’s causing the evil the protagonists have to…

Review: 'Fear Street Part One: 1994' is a superfun, 90s inspired teen slasher

    Review: '#FearStreet Part One: 1994' is a superfun, 90s inspired teen slasher @Netflix @NetflixFilm

There are many things you could say about movies and media from the 90s, but one thing that can’t be denied is that the teen slasher went through something of a golden age. There are too many to list but suffice to say that if 90s teen horror is your jam, then Fear Street Part One: 1994 was made specifically for you. If you happen to like fun movies, then it was also made for you. (more…)

Fear Street: Part 1 (1994) Netflix Film 😱 Review

*Spoilers Ahead, so if you haven’t seen the film don’t read this* This is my opinion and my opinion alone.

    Hello Lovely People!

This is part 2 of my review, where I just recap the film - the post was becoming too long…

    Plot

In opening scene we are introduced to Heather Watkins (Maya Hawke) a employee at a bookstore in the Shadyside Mall, just as she’s closing for the evening she receives a call from her friend Ryan Torres (David W. Thompson) a recent graduate and who also works at Shadyside mall with Heather - they start talking and it is implied that he would give her ride home, as she didn’t want to walk home alone. They both retreat to close their respective workplaces when Heather hears something and assumes its Ryan trying to scare her, she is then attacked by skull masked figure and manages to get out of the bookstore and starts running, shouting after Ryan. After a couple of near misses and quick call to the police and some jump scares - Heather is struck from behind and pulls off the mask to reveal it’s Ryan and soon after Ryan is Shot by local Sheriff Nick Goode and both are pronounced dead. I’m sad Heather is dead, she was a great character and very smart and I wanted to know more about her friendship with Ryan.

Roll on the title sequence 🥁

Sometime after this we are introduced to one of the main characters; Deena Johnson (Kiana Madeira) who has clearly gone through a recent breakup with someone named Sam and her younger brother, Josh (Benjamin Flores Jr.) who most of the time is chatting with someone calling themselves ‘QueenAirDarkness’ on the AOL chat rooms and who knows a lot about the horrific events that have happened in Shadyside. They soon arrive at school, where most students and Josh believe that the recent murders are result of local legend witch; Sarah Fier - this is something Deena does not believe, nor indulge - soon we meet her best friends Kate (Julia Rehwald) and Simon (Fred Hechinger) (who for some reason is in the girls bathroom) and Josh has a crush on Kate - Kate is a cheerleader who sells drugs and Simon a goofball who partakes, Deena asks Kate to give a box to Sam at the upcoming game, when asked why Deena can’t do it herself - it’s revealed she has quit band (probably in attempt to avoid Sam) Deena is persuaded by Kate to just go to this game and get it over and done with.

After a ride to the football game at the rival School; Sunnyvale High. They arrive a vigil is held for the deaths of Heather and Ryan, along with the other victims - during this, Deena sees a couple from Sunnyvale and slips away and becomes upset - when Sam (Olivia Scott Welch) arrives and is given back her box of stuff from Deena, which leads to confrontation about their relationship, why they broke up and her new boyfriend; Peter (Jeremy Ford) - this is parallel in the rival football teams, who are arguing then physically fighting over the fact that there’s a murder in the Shadyside “like every other week” - then on the ride back home, all the students on the bus are livid and want revenge for the events that occurred at the vigil. Peter, Sam and a friend are driving behind the Shadyside school bus trying to cause trouble, Deena open the back door of the bus and is about to throw a keg at the car, when her nose begins to bleed and the keg slips off the bus and causes the car to crash. Sam emerges from the crash and sees visions of a girl - then Deena, Kate and Simon appears, with Deena wanting to checkup on Sam, Sam coughs up blood on Simon, Peter then has a go at Deena and calls her a “dyke”(so clearly doesn’t know they dated and is slightly homophobic). Sometime later, Sheriff Goode (Matthew Zuk) arrives and is taking Deena’s statement about the crash and Peter threatens Deena.

Later, Deena and Josh are at home and are about to eat dinner, when Deena notices someone in a Skull mask (exactly like the one worn by Ryan Torres at the start of the film) Deena opens the back door, thinking it’s Peter and shouts that this is pathetic - meanwhile Simon is hanging out with Kate while she’s is babysitting - Kate receives a call from Deena about Peter, she then hears someone in the house and her and Simon also see a person in a skull mask - looking through the basket of laundry…Kate decides to leave the kids with neighbour; Mrs Lane (Jordana Spiro) and Kate and Simon head to Deena’s. They discuss everything thing that has happened and take a trip to the hospital to tell Sam to get her ‘boyfriend’ in line. When they arrive, Kate asks for Nurse (B)Eddy (Eric Mendenhall); one of her customers - he gets Deena in Sam’s room, where they argue over Peter and the car crash, Peter then arrives and the girls continue to argue - when all of a sudden, Peter is stabbed and the girls run out of the room in fear, cut to Kate, Simon and Josh who hear the commotion and Nurse (B)Eddy has been stabbed, they run out and and decide to steal an ambulance - soon enough Deena and Sam catch up - just before the get in the ambulance, Deena sees who’s behind the mask and it is none other than - Ryan, who is very much dead…they all drive off, trying to process what just happened.

They head to the police station for help from Sheriff Goode, who doesn’t believe them and thinks it’s a prank - until one of his deputies, informs him of the incident at the hospital. Meanwhile Simon, notices a girl singing and decides to talk to her until she attacks him - while he’s being attacked, Deena makes a scene and steals a cops gun and then shoots the girl that was trying to kill Simon. After this they leave the police station and head back to Deena’s, while Simon is describing the girl - Josh realises the girl who attacked him is Ruby Lane (Jordyn DiNatale); a girl from the 60s that killed her boyfriend and best friend. He then explains that normal people throughout the years have suddenly snapped and killed people - dating all the way back to 1600s. Some of these Shadyside killers are to appear in Parts 2 + 3, which should be interesting. They should be glad they have Josh on their team, being all knowledgeable about this stuff. Sam reveals that she had a vision of the witch, they take a trip to the scene of the crash and Sam retraces her steps to then realise she disturbed the witches grave, they figure that if they re-bury the bones everything will stop - they were wrong, soon after another Dead Shadyside Killer from Camp Nightwing arrives swinging his axe - the barely escape and drive off, they realise - that the dead don’t want them, only Sam; Sams blood is on the Simon’s shirt and Deena’s shoes - which is why they were attacked, the Camp Nightwing Killer didn’t care about Josh, they make a plan to end this once and for all - they head to the school to change out of the bloody clothes and Deena and Sam make up after a deep meaningful talk and it’s implied that Kate and Josh kissed.

Soon after, they set up their trap - which doesn’t work, smart plan, but ineffective - they blow up Skull Mask, Ruby Lane and the Axeman - much to their surprise they begin to regenerate (sorta) and the group are now being chased by the axeman - they barricade themselves in a classroom and Kate and Simon say that they should let Sam be taken, in fear for their lives. Deena disagrees and the trio argue, until Sam agrees to go - not wanting anyone, especially Deena to die for her.

Meanwhile, Sheriff Goode visits someone and slips a note through the mail slot, saying ‘IT’S HAPPENING AGAIN!’.

Simon holds Deena back, as Sam goes to meet her demise, only to be dragged back in - Josh remembers that there was a sole survivor of the Summer Camp massacre of 1978; Cindy Berman - Deena phones and there’s no answer, she leaves a message - Josh tells them that the woman dies and was brought back, they think that if Sam dies and is brought back - it should do the trick. In the nearby Supermarket, Simon explains to Sam what pills she should take to make sure this works. Kate, Simon and Josh are lookouts and head to their posts - while Deena helps Sam with the pills, only Sam can’t keep the pills down - the axeman arrives and kills Kate, then Simon - with the pills not an option, Deena drowns a willing Sam and this works - just before the Axeman kills Josh, Josh then helps Deena bring back Sam.

We see the three at the station giving their statements about the nights events - Sheriff Goode, reveals to Deena that the blame will be placed upon Simon and Kate, since they were known for taking drugs and could not protest; since they were both dead. Deena, Sam and Josh don’t want this, but what can they do…Deena and Sam officially come out as a couple, much to Sam’s mother’s dismay. Later on, Sam and Deena are chilling out in Deena’s room - while Josh is talking to the same person at the beginning of the film, talking about the events of the evening. Upstairs, the phone goes and Deena picks it up, much to her surprise it’s Cindy Berman (Gillian Jacobs) she tells Deena it isn’t over, Deena turns around to see Sam - who isn’t quite herself. Downstairs, Josh is just about to tell ‘QueenAirDarkness’ what really happened, when he hears a commotion and runs to see that Sam had attacked Deena and is not tied up. In the credit scene, we see that Deena and Josh have payed Cindy Berman a visit and she begins to tell them about the events of Camp Nightwing massacre…setting up Fear Street: Part 2 (1978)…
