    NEVERLAND (lyrics & music: Kazuki)

    English & Japanese Lyrics

    English:

    I just go my way

I don’t wanna see you cry

    Change

    The flow of time

    and inside your forgotten dreams

    Release your desires now

Continuing to live whilst concealing your cracked heart, everyone’s the same

Keep on screaming that you wanna smile

I believe the future is bright

I love you; even in this warped world

Beyond this point the light shines in

Even the in-erasable pain and the past soaked with tears

We will keep on sharing it all together

To the days when the harsh words echo in my mind and come to a stop

I will say farewell and move forward

Show me the alluring future that you imagined

I get it; the things about to break

And the things that won’t last forever

    but nevertheless

I will keep sounding out my stories told with the transparent eyes of a child again and again

Until my final moment, I wanna be happy

I hope that I will be here eternally

Love, dreams, sorrow- all of it

    Will change into strength

    [g0 ahead.]

    I’m beginning to love;

    even in this warped world

Even the things that don’t last forever

    and from now on

I will keep sounding out my stories told with the transparent eyes of a child again and again

    I just go my way

I don’t wanna see you cry

    I just go my way

    I just go my way…

    Notes:

魅せる:見せる:he uses this kanji instead that means to fascinate, bewitch or charm. I think he’s creating a double meaning.

子供みたいに透明な瞳:’toumei’ means clear, translucent and transparent. When saying transparent eyes just like a child, I believe it refers to the innocence and pure nature of children. They see the world through innocent lenses and are not yet tainted by the harsh realities of this world.

    Japanese:

  • TIME LAPSE 英訳

    NEVERLAND (Lyrics: Tera, Music: Kazuki)

    English & Japanese Lyrics

    English:

Soon to be dyed in the orange dusk

My shadow outstretched far behind me, standing alone.

That time, at that place, that person’s facial expressions

Continue to burn beneath my eyelids

    They won’t disappear

The way home, the warmth lingering in the palm of my hands

I’d always known such loneliness as this

The time when the scenery you’re looking at and the scenery I’m looking at overlap is just several seconds but

    With happiness and excitement

    I tried to say

「I hope we can meet again」

    With a whisper

In the middle of an overhead bridge,

    The town dyed in orange

Although the evening sun sets slowly

Only the time spent with you flows by in an instant

It’s only natural but, it’s lonely

    It’s not that we met

    In order to create emptiness

Even I understand such a simple thing

The time when the scenery you’re looking at and the scenery I’m looking at overlap is just several seconds but

    With happiness and excitement

    I tried to say

「I hope we can meet again」

    With a whisper

Things like my sharp tongue, the bluffs

I want you to be immersed in all of it

    Heavy-handly

Even if it’s so selfish of me to say such a thing

    Without being abandoned

I hope I’ll see you again

The time when the scenery you’re looking at and the scenery I’m looking at overlap is here now in this very moment

With happiness, excitement and such embarrassment

It’s really not like me but

    I tried saying

    「I hope you’ll come again」

    Japanese:

Here I am with a new review in “Let’s Listen to”! Today’s subject is the latest release by the Japanese rock band downy, precisely the seventh album Dai nanashukin shuu “mudai” (Seventh album “untitled”), come out on 18th March 2020. This release is important for their career, as it marks the 20th anniversary since their debut and the first work since Aoki Yutaka’s death, occurred on 2018 and not by case the whole album, in particular the lead-track, revolves around the concept of joy and sorrow between life and death. And now… let’s review!

    image

-Contra-post: the album starts with a song introduced by piercing notes, a bit shaded at the same time; the piano articulates more the theme, along with Robin’s vocals closer to a spoken style and paced percussions, put at the right point; a quite engaging song. —> 9/10

-Shikai furyou (Scarce visibility): fast drumming kicks off this song, featuring quite deep notes; the vocals are quite clear and steady, surrounding a pretty unpredictable track, but efficient and compelling in its own. —> 9/10

-36.2°: this short interlude sees an electronic melody, reprising the atmosphere of the previous tracks and immerging in what’s coming next.

-Good News: this song is opened by an articulated drum work, accompained by deep bass lines and a piercing guitar; the vocals are clear and ethereal, keeping up the song, whose theme is built with an unique energy. —> 9/10

-Kakuzatou (Sugar cube): the song features a rhythm emphasized by electronic effects, well distributed throughout the track and intertwined by brighter notes; the rhythm slowly leaves the spot to more aggressive notes and enigmatic vocals; a song with an interesting technique. —> 8.5/10

-Geranium: a stronger rhythm and a more sinuous guitar kick off this song, where the second harmonizes the theme at best; the vocals are soft and shaded, in a song which goes on mainly with the vocal interpretation. —> 8.5/10

-Sajou, moyu. Zankou (Burn, scatter. Persistent vision): the lead-track of the album sees the rhythm as the main element of the whole track, featuring clear and unusual notes; Robin’s voice is stimulating, fitting with the unpredictable structure of the song, in a really awesome work. —> 9.5/10

-Pianoid: a pretty steady rhythm open this song, featuring creepier notes brought by piano and a peculiar work by the guitar; the vocals are vivid and faster, bringing a compelling performance, fitting with the song’s structure; the electronic component enriches the song in an intriguing way. —> 9/10

-Azayagu shiten (Vivid perspective): fast beat and noisy notes characterize the song, where a soft piano joins the theme in an evident way; Robin’s voice intertwines well with the theme, mixing up with the deep rhythm and the compelling melody, becoming as one. —> 9/10

-Adaption: the guitar opens the song, featuring electronic effects whose use is aimed to build up the melody; the vocals are fleble, but fitting so well in the theme that the interpretation results even more powerful than expected, between vocalisms and clearer shades; a really peculiar song. —> 9/10

-Stand alone: the album ends with a song opened by strong guitar notes and more piercing vocals, accompained by deep bass lines and an engaging theme; an intense and energetic conclusion for an unique release. —> 9.5/10

    Final Vote —> 9/10

Defining properly downy’s music is pretty hard, as they don’t stick to a specific canon or genre, even if they are linked to the Japanese post-rock scene, whose they are pioneers of. In twenty years of career the band delivered seven full albums, one different to another, where they tried new approaches, used unpredictable notes and reached far horizons. This latest album has an important meaning, especially because of the big loss the band has experienced exactly two years earlier; each track in the disc carries on an unique identity, but connected to a complex journey which the listener lives on note after note, with refined and complex melodies, built by noises studied to perfection, and experienced vocals, brought by Robin Aoki, one of the most distinctive singers of the Japanese scene. The real fans of the genre won’t surely miss this new album by downy, a band whose style is intriguing and complex, fit to express the listener’s inner feelings and sensations. An album for who is a fan of one of the most important Japanese rock bands and for who is looking for to a new definition of rock music, far from simply listening to music.

That’s all folks! See you with a new review in “Throwback Thursday”!

    Thanks for the reading!
