AP LANG AND COMP STUDY SESSION LETS GOOOOOOOOO
So, book 9 isn’t coming out until 2022 and all, and I completely get why, like I understand that Shannon wasn’t able to write as much and she still has to get used to raising a tiny being, but at the same time, we have to wait not 1 year like usual, but 2 full years after the ending of unlocked. I don’t know if I’ll survive.
KOTLC CHARACTERS ARCHETYPES
i know i'm too invested in kotlc because today i saw a kid drop their book out of their car. and in the split second i saw the back of their book i knew it was a kotlc book
a reminder that if/when the kotlc movie comes out, we won’t be harassing or being rude to the kids who are the actors. If you disagree with that, please unfollow me

Trigger warnings: mentions of food, kissing, alden being Himself but mentioned through dialogue, and let me know if I missed anything !
Summary/explanation before we begin: so! this is a multi-chapter fic idea I have where Fitz is a prince and Dex is a gardener. I want to write more of it (I have a rough draft of some chapters, ish in drafts and I have the plot of it mostly there, so I will do it!!), but I, however, am in the middle of a bunch of stuff for school and finals are coming up, so I’m focusing on those first! For context before this chapter, though, Fitz and Dex meet alone in the garden at midnight most nights (they have for a while), and Fitz is late to one of their meetings...
Word Count: 1321
“You waited here for me,” Fitz sighed out the words, smiling.
Dex nodded. “Don’t take it as a sign of affection, princey.”
“Oh, I wouldn’t dream of that.”
Slyly, a smile that ruined the serious tone of the phrases gave the two of them to a moment where the wind rustled within the grassed area that rested below Fitz’s toes. Light dew from that morning’s rain, which hadn’t fully dried yet, tickled Fitz from the hiding spot within their blades. The lingering smell left Fitz falling into a nervous state.
“I apologize for being so late,” Fitz started. “My father’s gotten preternatural lately. He’s more disengaged emotionally, and when he’s physically there, everyone’s walking on eggshells like it’s customary. Equally, he’s putting effort into fraternizing with me since I am ‘of the age to be indoctrinated on the ways of rulership’, as he graciously put it.” Fitz looked up from his feet and realized Dex was truly engaged with what he was saying.
Dex actually cared; the formal act expected around his parents, father mostly, could be dropped around him. Fitz chuckled slightly then looked away. “Heh, sorry. Anyway, mom wanted a night away from him and to bake something with us—well, mostly me—but Biana came along and it wasn’t bothersome? It felt like we were a family doing healthy family things, and honestly, the first batch went wrong in so many ways, but it was still fun. I really like being around them and I just-” the paragraph came to a natural pause as Fitz’s fingers loosely ruffled his hair’s end. His smile grew wider as the warmth of the memory lit up his features, giving Dex a hint of a smile he could hide in the dim light of a yellow lantern.
“I wouldn't have stayed out here if I minded,” Dex quickly mended. “Plus, this gave me a quiet I don’t normally get at home with the triplets, so no harm done.”
Fitz’s attention grabbed onto a new patch of flowers blooming next to Dex on their bench instead of the familiar silence between the two of them. By now, he’d learned not to pick any of the stems or petals without Dex’s approval and help first, yet the touch of them would be allowed. Kneeling down next to a patch where the buds were hesitant to show themselves not even a night ago, Fitz lazily traced where the leaves met in the middle.
“What kind of flowers are these?” He asked, cupping a blossom in his hands. “A snapdragon?”
“Close! They’re actually toadflax, but that’s a very common misinterpretation.” Dex tucked his legs under himself as he sat down next to Fitz. “You can tell by several factors. Their leaves are more narrow, and the top of their stem is smoother.”
While he explained, he gestured to each part of the flower. FItz didn’t mind, until he started to trace the flower in his palm. Their fingers nearly brushed and time stopped around him. The edge of Dex’s finger that now rested on the tips of Fitz's hands while he started to explain seemed to capture his mind more than his words could. “Where the petals meet is a huge indicator, too. Notice how the center here is orangish?”
He pointed towards the center and glanced back at Fitz to confirm he was listening. Not sure how he managed to know how to nod, Fitz watched closely as Dex titled his head towards his shoulder when they went back to focusing on the flower. “That’s what makes it different. The flower you mentioned would be a lighter shade of yellow at the center, and it doesn’t have as big of a spur.”
As Fitz lowered the flower, Dex didn’t lean away. He didn’t move at all as his head tilted closer to Fitz than it normally would. Their legs brushed as they stayed together, observing the flowers from the safety of the soft grass they sat on, not minding the sky starting to lighten.
Fitz caught Dex staring at him. He smiled and asked through a nervous chuckle, “what?”
Dex’s eyes locked with his and their faces leant even closer. Lost in the honey-dipped iris, Fitz noticed what seemed like a million little flecks of light staining his eyes an almost golden shade of tea. They’d always been there, but there was a question hidden within the gleam of the lantern bouncing off of them. Fitz stared for far too long, puzzled as to what he was asking.
Dex gently cupped behind Fitz’s ears and made their noses nearly touch. Before Fitz could piece anything together, he had a pair of lips on his, and the sweetness of honey painted his brain with a hue of fondness reminiscent of this garden. Only a moment later, the intoxicating sweet made him wrap his arms around Dex’s neck.
Dex’s fingers slid down his arms, giving him a shiver of goosebumps that had nothing to do with the spring’s cold morning, before landing on his waist. Forever waited within the moments where they held onto each other, affection dripping into their mind like honey.
Every second they spent like that made the moment they pulled apart shatter the universe they’d both been caught up in. Staring at each other regained some of the feeling as they tried to catch their breath. They were physically closer than they normally were too, but neither of them minded.
“I’m sorry,” Dex said, whispered, trying to find his voice again. “I really should have asked first.”
Fitz put his forehead on Dex’s and looked into his eyes again, losing almost all ability to form words. “I didn’t regret that.”
One second turned into another, and they kissed again. It wasn’t as intense as the previous time, but it was safe, familiar. This level of vulnerability was normal with Dex, and Fitz wished to stay there. This place where honey had been caramelized.
Bells chiming four times, singaling how many hours into the morning they were, did not allow that. Guilt flooded through FItz as he realized his father would be in his room soon, expecting him to be asleep and ready for their morning lessons. Memories of the one time he’d ever been late flashed through his mind, reminding him never to do it again.
Yet being here was mellow enough to lure him away from the logistics and stay. He slightly moved his fingers behind Dex’s hair and through one of the looser strands of a curl. Untangled hairs from days of it not being brushed swayed around his hands, tickling the backs in a soft manner. He wanted to remember this feeling, the here feeling of this moment, and how velvety this was. He needed to stop it before leaving was even more burdensome.
A flustered shock filled the air around them after he pulled away, fingers hesitantly lowering themselves. It felt too cold for how late into spring they were, but the weather had nothing to do with it.
Fitz tried to explain the feeling. When his mouth formed into a shape to say something, though, nothing came out. Words weren’t enough. He wanted to stay there, close to Dex, but when he tried to say that, his voice failed him. He stood up from the grass and didn’t look back.
“I have to go,” he finally managed to get out.
The words fell flat.
Neither of them believed it to be real.
Walking away, Fitz couldn’t bring himself to look at the freckled boy underneath the dim morning lighting again. He didn’t want to see Dex sitting alone and confused in front of the yellow field that had caused all of this to happen hours ago because he couldn’t be the one to comfort him, despite what he aguishly wanted.
He didn’t want to remember how sweet the taste of honey had been.

okay as cute as shannon's baby is can we just remember that these are like. actual living people. like they're not just characters we can be invested in and talk about for hours because "aw, cute!" these are literal, real people. and like, not saying we cant be happy, because this is pretty cute! but also: real people.
In the midst of all the keeper baby news and excitement I want to take a quick moment for everyone else like me, who doesn’t like kids
because I’m probably not the only one
There’s a lot of celebratory posts going around, and for people like us who just...don’t connect with kids, it might be kind of strange/uncomfortable/weird/meh/something else to see.
It’s okay! It’s fine that we don’t like kids! It’s okay that we can’t or have trouble being happy for people about these kinds of things because of our own distaste!!
Don’t feel obligated to be ecstatic and over the moon for Shannon or make a post expressing that excitement—I know it’s “expected” but it’s really not necessary, especially if you don’t want to!
We just need to not be rude to others who are genuinely excited and happy about this/for Shannon.
This means a lot to some people, so this is just an acknowledgement for everyone else like me who can’t be excited. Don’t worry. No ones going to think you’re rude or awful or disgusting for not enjoying kids. Everyone’s different. /g
Anyways, that’s all!! To everyone who’s excited, please enjoy your celebrations! To anyone else like me who doesn’t like kids, thats perfectly fine!
And if there’s too much baby celebrating on your dash, you’re welcome to send me an ask/something else, because I’m not going to be talking about the keeper baby /g
anyways, that’s all!!
(If I’ve said something rude or anything in that vein, please let me know because I’m trying very hard not to /g)
bro y'all are making emotional posts and stuff but what if shannon's kid comes to tumblr???
ANYWAY HAPPY KEEPER BABY DAY 🎉 🥳
