Summary: It's Halloween, and something wicked is in the air; Gon lets more than necessary slip while playing a party game. Fortunately for him, Killua is a chronic overthinker.
Part of Whelmed’s Halloween Treat Fest.
Halloween should have been fairly simple.
It’s costumes-- the bloodier, the scarier, the wilder-- the better. Or, maybe he could allow for some cuteness, that’s what got the little kids running door-to-door the candy, anyway, and he was far from arguing about that correlation if it was positive and high. Halloween was purple like miasma, orange like pumpkins, green like a witch’s skin and her cackle. Fake, fuzzy bats hung from the ceiling, and ghoulish twinkle lights hung from door frames. Outside Leorio’s dorm, grown men wandered in wolf costumes and scared the scant fairies walking from one party to the next, others in masks stood on their hands and put an even scarier, gore-colored mask at their feet and hobbled over to their friends to get a shriek out of them, maybe lap at some of the spilled beer on the floor. Halloween was swingy, upbeat music under creepy flute-like wails that sounded like the haunting damned.
Why Gon found Halloween to be so hard to comprehend, despite his life lived as a very normal, very festive child, eluded him. He scowled and tried not to let his fake fangs burrow too deep into his inner lip, and Gon just grinned back at him, round honey eyes behind a very red, shiny nose, “Oi, Gon.”
“Why... are you wearing a reindeer costume at a Halloween party?" If a bit of the irritation slipped, he wouldn’t hold it against himself.
