I’ve always wanted to check out the manga for a game I’ve played. So a week or two ago, I ordered the first two volumes of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Figure I’ll say my thoughts on them now that I’ve read them.
I assume the previous LoZ manga aren’t necessary reading.
This really felt like a good introductory Volume, and I like how it takes Link from a fairly blank character like he is in most games, into someone with a past where he ran away from his town after causing its destruction. Like, I like how he’s characterized so far.
I also like how some of the characters feel more fleshed out. And I’m excited to see Wolf Link and Midna next volume, which arrived today. I haven’t played too much of TP, which is why I’m excited to read this series.
I like Midna and Link starting off more antagonistic towards each other. I feel like it adds something when Link is worried about her at the end when the light’s burning her. And it adds to their dynamic in general, with Link warming up to Midna over the course of the volume.
I like how they tell the full story right away when Link meets Zelda and how link recognizes Hyrule castle right away.
Midna really grew on me quickly. I don’t remember especially liking her when I played, I was more neutral on her. But I like her so far in this manga. I also like how she looks in the realm of light. All dark and shadowy.
Also, Midna and link feel more like a team in this volume compared to the game. Since it’s a game, it’s kind of limited and Midna doesn’t really beat people up alongside Link, but here she punches the monkey in the face and is generally really helpful.
And again, I really like links characterization here. With him struggling with the fact that he’s a chosen hero when he feels he doesn’t deserve it.
