In this post, I mentioned a red-bellied woodpecker had started work on a nesting hole. Well, it turns out there are two holes:
A small one that he was working on & a larger one further down the limb:
The holes have become hot property with a pair of European Starlings, a pair of Northern Flickers & a gray squirrel checking them out yesterday & today. I’d like to see the red-bellied woodpecker hang on to one of them but he still has to find a partner:
