some interesting stuff about elwë's name: back in cuiviénen speech had not differentiated yet so it is indeed safe to state that everyone called him elwë, noldor/vanyar/teleri alike. with the great march, however, speech began to develop differently especially for the teleri who were cut off from the main group for so long - so while the noldor/vanyar would still call him elwë (as they would call his brother olwë), the teleri who stayed behind would call him elue, and olwë became olue, because the /w/ had already become /u/. the stress didn't shift, but a syllable was added, lengthening the pronunciation. sindarin spelling later altered the word length too, but instead of going back to the quenya pronunciation, the final syllable fell and it became elu, from the telerin base elue and not quenya base elwë. similarly, his epessë in cuiviénen was singollo, with the sibilant, which then softened into þ, and ultimately /th/; again the final syllable fell, so we likely have singollo > þingollo > þingol (early doriathrin spelling?) > thingol. this is entirely speculative and in no way accurate, i just think that telerin was likely the bridge between quenya and sindarin.
i think one of the worst parts of other sites going through the early tumblr phases is the revival of "never hate on anything ever" mentality. like people are deranged enough and we're on a pandemic imagine not letting people just dislike stuff
Honestly one of the most embarrassing things that I've done to another person would probably be:
// TL;DR: some guy tried to say a mature looking bathing suit would look good on me (I was wearing my crusty PlayStation hoodie, how would he know? ) but I couldn't hear him and made him repeat himself multiple times.
this year I went to visit my grandparents (moms side) in North Carolina and we were gonna go to their beach apartment and stuff. So me and my grandma were looking at bathing suits and there was a really cool black one with like cuts along the side (I was just lookin' my grandma would never let me wear something like that)
And this guy with a cast, that honestly looked pretty fake, came up to me and, I think, said "That'd look good on you. "
And the Walmart we were in was pretty loud and I couldn't hear him so I was like "what? "
And he repeated himself but added on something about having greyhounds. This went on for a bit until he said, after I walked a little closer to hear him better. "you didn't have to come over.. "
And then my grandma dragged me away. I didn't even know he was trying to flirt??? 😭😭😭 I like to think I embarrassed him pretty good with that "wtf are you saying, dude, speak up. "

Okay, but here's the thing. As a character, Guillermo has to exist in a grey space. And he has to be driven by love.
The show doesn't work if he's just a victim who needs to get away. And the show doesn't work if he's just a baby serial killer who was two steps from learning ritual sacrifice whether he'd met Nandor or not. (And the show doesn't work if he was completely ordinary and then the Staten vamps corrupted him beyond 'fixing' or something.)
Guillermo constantly has options. He could return at any time to an ordinary life and no one would stop him. He knows other vampires who can turn him and will probably do it sooner. There are vampires and familiars and normal humans who are all eager to get with him.
In a different story, Guillermo would meet the Mosquito Collectors and train them into an elite vampire-hunting force and become the metaphorical dude who came to work and set fire to the office. He'd have every right, he'd have power and respect and a group of misfits to call home. But he doesn't do that because he doesn't just want that from anywhere, he simply loves vampires, even after years of seeing them at their cruelest/laziest/stupidest.
And there's no indication that he thinks he deserves the treatment he gets. He's side-eyeing the camera the minute we meet him because he knows this is insane. He probably knows he's a little insane, but he's not sorry about it. He makes decisions deliberately, every time, but makes them with his heart.
But, but, here is the other important bit. He also saves the Mosquito Collectors in the end. Because this isn't fundamentally a sadist show. Sean's brain gets fucked up, but then it gets better and his marriage improves. The Baron is actually just kind of lonely and regrets never having kids. The hellhound just wants attention (and Guillermo instinctively knows this) and the Sire just wants to be free. Laszlo kept killing Gregor not out of jealousy, but because Gregor makes his wife sad.
And Guillermo tries to work his way onto the throne and whisper in people's ears, but he has the most success and shines the brightest when he just bursts into the Chamber and saves two lives by following his gut. Because he has a conscience, it's just not wired for people most of the time. He doesn't want to live in a world of people.
He wants respect, he fights for leverage, but this very polite, private man wants to live in a world where bizarre but amazing shit happens, and everyone's fucking and drinking blood, and everyone's emotions are big and messy and ridiculous all the time. And he wants to live there as himself. Because he loves it.
He sits in a cage for a month and comes out more sure than ever that he wants to protect these idiots and make them a family. Whether they like it or not. Because he loves them.
He's getting stronger, and the vampires are getting softer, and everyone is getting truer. Because whether or not they mean for the show to be 'about' anything, I think it's at least partly about power - and power, for Guillermo, is becoming the realest version of himself.
i have a habit of collecting characters who look vaguely like a human brainy (thick glasses, red hair- often they have curly hair but that's not necessary) and loving them just bc of how they look. todd morrison, dougie o'connell/general disarray...
anyways, when i learned the loud house/casagrandes universe had a character with thick glasses and red curly hair, AND he wears clothes that are fancy and blue, i was excited to add another character to my collection. then i saw that his wiki page says he's "very clumsy" and "often falls victim to various misfortunes."
of course my first response was "oh my god it's brainy and clumsy's secret human love child"
anyways because of this, laird has shot up to second place on my list of brainy lookalikes
my body woke me up at 4 am for no reason :l
