Certain fans: ( Sees a work where a female protagonist is discriminated and fight backs at a patriarchal society) This is feminist propaganda. I’m going to stop reading/watching this. Who cares how well-written the story is? I already know it’s bad because it’s FEMINIST PROPAGANDA!
Also them: ( Sees a work where a male protagonist is discriminated and fights back at a matriarchal society) I do not see anything wrong with this. Anyone who says this is sexist is a delusional feminist and is pointlessly bringing up politics in a discussion about fiction. They should just ignore it and focus on the story, it’s really well-written!
I don’t know how it is like in other mediums but this is what some fans ( not all, I feel like I have to clarify this in case someone screams at me about how not everyone is like that) are like in the anime and manga fandom. And I don’t even know how to begin on slavery.
Being in a fandom where AUs in fanfiction are extremely common but you don’t like AUs. ( To avoid confusion, I don’t include canon divergence when I say AU. )
At first, I was fine with it. I mean, I could always go to AO3 and exclude the AU tag, right? I quickly found out that it was not the case. I excluded like 20 different AU tags but I still saw like, one AU every 3 stories because there was an AU tag I did not consider or the author simply didn’t tag it as an AU.
I hate when people get shitty about aging up characters to write more mature stuff about them. They say you’re still thinking gross stuff about minors and shouldn’t even think about writing mature themes but where does it leave us? One you turn 18 youre not allowed to like any media that’s fun? You’re not allowed to like cartoons or even “adult” shows that are too childish? Because clearly you can’t enjoy and want to write fic about shows not made for your specific age group anymore. Fandom isn’t fun anymore. I’m afraid of posting anything. I hate it now. I miss the old days.
when fans can excuse their fave’s unambiguously awful behavior but insist that the actually moral grey characters are irredeemable garbage straight from hell. Bonus points if the worse the morally grey character has done is be an ass while being on the side of good
when people in your fandom decide that some of the female characters’ clothes are too revealing and decide to badmouth their outfits and the author and make less revealing edits to their outfits so they’re ‘less gross’ which makes you feel like shit because when you were the characters’ age you wore clothes that were as revealing (if not more) than what they’re wearing, and you can’t help feeling like they’re calling you and your fashion sense gross and disgusting…
When a fandom bashes a character from a book series who was portrayed horribly in the film version. When in reality this character is actually amazing and people have let the films effect their interpretation of that character.

This fits well here
Fandoms are only active during spoiler days and chapter releases, which is like two days, and then it’s quite until the next week.
It feels so freaking lonely here!
So how many people would be interested in me doing a review on latest manga chapters (or whatever manga I’m reading?)
