Capping your career from the getgo may be a risky move overall. Especially when people don’t know what you can bring to the table.
Thankfully Quentin Tarantino brought it right away. And now here with his penultimate movie, can still bring it.
1969 California, in the twilight of the silver age of movies. 3 stars see thier lives play out. One rising, one fading, and one looking to get a second light.
The rising is Sharon Tate, having just come off of supporting role in the wrecking crew, Tate along with new husband Roman Polanski moves to Cielo Drive in northern LA. Things are looking up for them.
The One looking for a second wind, is star of Bounty Law Rick Dalton. Fearing his better days are behind him, he commits to his persona in an attempt to win over a new fan base. One he happen to get right away in a costar of only 8 years old.
The falling, is ricks stunt man and personal assistant Clint booth. Already having been blacklisted due to the suspected death of his wife and his involvement, he seeks a purpose in a changing world all the while running afoul of a growing cult in the shadows.
Make no mistake, Leo, Brad, and Margot Robbie carrry the film. And although longer by his own standards Tarantino does what he knows best.
Homages and revisionism, especially how he actually uses classic footage without the little hint of change other than quality upgrade and making it feel so authentic.
Let’s just hope his final chapter is just as magical as his penultimate one.
