"Initially I was thinking about doing animation and going down that road, but I've realised I don't need to go straight to animation - maybe in ten years."
(OBVIOUSLY he’s very busy making an animated film and that’s why we’re not seeing him.)
Grey's has some not so good fathers, those who have been absent from their children's lives by choice, and then those who were absent not by their own choice.
Richard Webber: poor Dr. Webber; he had no idea until S11 that he even had a child. He'd tried, apparently, to have kids with his first wife, Adele, but they couldn't have kids. During his marriage to Adele, though, Richard had a long affair with his fellow surgeon Dr. Ellis Grey. That, unbeknownst to him, produced a child. The complicated Dr. Ellis Grey had a baby girl from her relationship with Richard and gave the baby, Dr. Maggie Pierce, up for adoption. When Maggie's an adult, she learns about her birth mother and moves to Seattle where she meets her birth father (who was unaware of her existence) and her maternal half sister Meredith Grey.
Jackson Avery: Jackson had a complicated relationship with his own father, Robert Avery. He never saw his dad, so it's believable that when he and ex-wife April finally had their healthy baby girl, Harriet, he wasn't going to be anything like his bio dad. He was going to be there for his daughter. And he has been. He's now happily living with Harriet and Harriet's mother in Boston where they're running the Catherine Fox Foundation.
Derek Shepherd: he's always longed to be a father for as long as I'd imagine. He's married, for a second time, to his one true real love, Meredith Grey and is ready to begin to start a family. They struggle with infertility, losing a baby and trying to have another one. Then they meet Zola, a beautiful orphaned baby girl who comes to the US from Africa with Arizona Robbins' other sick African kids, and they fell in love with the baby. She's theirs, they firmly believe. It takes some time and a whole lot of drama for them to finally be able to adopt Zola, but they do. She's their first child. Then comes baby Derek Bailey Shepherd. Their first son. He's born in the midst of a dramatic spring/summer storm right after the plane crash. He's a miracle. Sadly, Derek never gets to meet his third child, a girl. She's born after Derek's tragic death in a car accident and we'd assume Derek knows of Ellis' existence in Heaven. And he does!
Owen Hunt: Owen's always wanted to be a dad. He entertains the idea of adopting a young boy who's dad was a former patient of his, but the dad survives, so Owen doesn't adopt that kid. Throughout both of Owen's ill-fated marriages, one to Cristina Yang and one to Amelia Shepherd, he tries to convince both wives that they'd be wonderful parents. But neither of his wives wants kids, or at least we know Cristina doesn't. Amelia's still healing from losing her first son, Christopher, and can't imagine replacing him. She doesn't heal from Christopher's loss until after she and Owen are divorced. Owen eventually adopts a baby boy named Leo, and then has a kid with his longtime friend and now fiancé Teddy, baby Allison.
Thatcher Grey: He was the father of Meredith (with his first wife, Ellis) and Lexie and Molly with his second wife, Susan. He's absent for the majority of Meredith's life, only reentering it when Lexie becomes an intern at SGH, and briefly when Molly has her baby in the first or second season.
Atticus Lincoln "Link": he's new, or at least relatively new to GA, and is the new on-again, off-again guy for Amelia Shepherd. They have a kid together, Scout Derek Shepherd Lincoln.. He's cute, and he's named after the dearly departed Derek Shepherd.
Mark Sloan: I don't think I was entirely surprised when it was revealed that Dr. Mark Sloan would be the father of Callie Torres' baby. Despite the obvious problems that would pop up: Callie still being in love with an absent Arizona, and Mark being in love with Lexie (Slexie forever!!!), the fact that these two best friends with benefits were having a kid, was sweet. Mark may have been a womanizer, but he was an amazing father. It's sad that he didn't get to live to be Sofia's father. That he wasn't there during that über dramatic custody battle Sofia's mother's had over her. He may have even stopped them from having that issue, had he been alive. But, alas, he succumbed to his plane crash injuries and left us behind. 😭
All of the above mentioned fathers were good in their own unique way. Thatcher Grey, though he wasn't there for Meredith, was the best father both Lexie and Molly could've asked for. Mark Sloan, womanizer extraordinaire, was a phenomenal father. Derek Shepherd was the father that Meredith didn't have for their children and it was utterly amazing. Owen Hunt finally got what he had wanted for so long with Leo and Allison, and for that, we're so happy. Link, though we don't know all that much yet, is already a phenomenonal father in his own. 💚💚💚
I may think of some other awesome father figures on Grey's, but these are the only ones I can think of right now.
i once again demand to have whatever 2003 mark had going on
I was looking up songs Mark has written bc I am starved for Mark content and now I wish I didn't because I found out Mark freaking wrote and licensed a song called Gag Me and I am losing my mind. Gag Me. Mark, you're killing us.
“Sometimes I’m a bit embarrassed being in the band, sometimes I’m really proud, but no matter what, I love being with the lads.” - Mark Owen
Mark’s happy little shuffle dance thing.
He’s doing a stupid dance with a towel. Why is that hot.
Mark in Come to Town
THAT’S OUR BOY.
(idk if this is by anyone here but it’s a joy.)
Mark doing his own backing vocals on The Day The Work is Done is so funny to me 😭😭 Like he had 4 other singers there that could have done it what a dick move 😂

Will I ever tire of drawing Mark in a denim jacket? June 2021.
