In the late 1950′s, the Snow Flake Motel was designed by Taliesin Associated Architects, an architectural firm headed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It was completed in 1962 and upon opening, offered 57 air conditioned rooms, direct dial phones, a heated swimming pool, mirror pool with fountains and colored lights, a cocktail lounge, coffee shop and conference room. The Snow Flake did well for about a decade, until the owner went through a series of personal tragedies, causing him to lose interest in the property.
It declined in the 1970′s and 1980′s. By 1996, the motel had been renamed the St. Joseph Inn which was intended to serve long-term residents. It was eventually was demolished in 2006, after being abandoned for a few years. An empty lot remains, with the scars of the former structure left behind.
Located in St Joseph, Michigan.
