Going through Trek movies, and this isn’t new info, but my problem with AOS Trek is that it’s so... dudebro. TOS Trek definitely had shitty episodes, and the fifth movie is Not Good, but for the most part - Roddenberry’s business bullshit aside - it was sincere, and trying. Into Darkness and 2009 might be more professional looking, but look it’s the douchey womanizer! It’s Carol Marcus in her underwear! The Angry Vulcan! Bones is comic relief! It’s the packaged nostalgia version, and not even really how the characters were.

Guess I'm not done, but the last jedi isn't subversive! It deconstructed, but it immediately reconstructs! That's why Rise of Skywalker works as a return to form!

After doing this job last year for Wicked, Tiana was more than ready to volunteer to do the same for Mamma Mia. Last year, Tiana had gone to London, but this year one of the newer team members had suggested Frome, which was apparently a big destination for vintage shopping. Considering it had callbacks to the 70s, the costume crew was going to need as many retro pieces as they could find.
Tiana invited Vixey for two reasons: because it might give her some ideas for her own shop and because it was fun to run errands with her. “Our priority is shoes right now,” Tiana announced as they stepped off the train, consulting the notes she had taken from the last crew-wide meeting. “But if we see anything else that might work, we can go ahead and get it. Let’s do this!”
As Tatooine is Dry
There is no Death, There is the Force.
This small movie is my entry for @jedijune today. Sound on.
Obi-Wan's thoughts voiceover: There is no death, there is the Force? No. They are as dead as Tatooine is dry.
‘Once to every Woman’ is a 1920 lost silent drama film directed by Allen Holubar and starring Dorothy Phillips and Rudolph Valentino - it was released by Paramount Pictures under the name Jewel Productions.
“Pampered Aurora Meredith (Dorothy Phillips) leaves her family and rustic lover Phineas Schudder (Robert Anderson) in the little village of Pleasanton to take up a singing career. After three years of study in Italy her patroness dies so Aurora, without funds to pay for her last year of study, accepts aid from an Italian youth, Juliantimo (Rodolf Valentino). After her first triumph he threatens to kill himself if she refuses to marry him, so to avoid him Aurora accepts an offer to appear in New York City. There she meets the Duke of Devonshire (Elliott) who, in an effort to extract a promise of marriage, arranges for Aurora to be given the stellar role in a new opera. On the night of the opera's premiere Juliantimo appears at the theatre and demands Aurora as his wife in payment of his loan. She refuses and orders him out of her dressing room, and he returns to his box seat. Phineas Schudder is in the theatre as is the Duke of Devonshire. Toward the close of the opera Aurora sees Juliantimo draw a gun. Just before the fall of the curtain he fires a shot at her and misses, and then turns the weapon on himself. When Aurora recovers from her fright she discovers that she has lost her voice. Doctors tell her that she will never sing again. At once her friends leave her until there is no one left, not even the Duke or her maid. She then realises the falsity of fame without love. Phineas, who has become a successful poet, vainly tries to see her. Broken-hearted and discouraged, she returns to the welcoming arms of her family and Phineas. Her mother is stricken ill and begs for her to sing to her. In her sorrow, Aurora suddenly recovers her voice, which her mother hears for the last time. Although Aurora can sing once again, she remains in Pleasanton. She has learned the happiness of helping and giving, and before she begins teaching children she pledges her troth with Phineas, obtaining the love that every woman wants.”
At The Alcazar
Thanks to Mr. Prather, manager of the Alcazar theatre, movie fans in Americus will have the opportunity Thursday of being the first in the South to see the famous Paramount production “Blood and Sand,” starring Rodolf Valentino,” said Thomas Bailey, branch manager of Paramount pictures, who is in Americus today. “Through a special arrangement with the Paramount Exchange of Atlanta, Mr. Prather has secured this picture for showing several days before the scheduled release date. This means that Americus will have the re-lease premiere showing for the Southern territory, a distinction rarely enjoyed by any cities except New York and Los Angeles. The print is now being rushed from the laboratories in New York, and arrangements have been made to have it brought to Atlanta to Americus by aeroplane or special automobile service in the event it does not arrive in time to be shipped by express.”At the premiere showing in Los Angeles, “Blood and Sand’ broke all previous records. On the hottest day of the year, with the rain pouring down in torrents, long lines of eager fans waited at the box office clamouring admittance. Los Angeles critics proclaimed it the greatest production Paramount ever made.
(The Alcazar Theatre, Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA, opened in 1909, the Alcazar was built from an existing storefront, it lacked some of the cruder appointments of the nickelodeon—it did not feature a pianola in the arcade or a loud phonograph outside—in order to project a more dignified image. It also featured a more elegant interior design and charged ten cents for admission, attracting the ‘best’ class of patrons since Atlanta’s other theatres still charged five cents.)
