MY FAVORITE VOLTAGE BOYS
just a list of voltage boys i think about a lot, because no one asked.
the boys on the list are in order of least to most favorite, as well as on the image above (left being least favorite, right being most favorite)!
p. s. this post will probably really bad since i’m just rambling, so please excuse the lack of structure.
5. OTA KISAKI
coming in at number five we have, ota kisaki from kissed by the baddest bidder! he is a celebrity artist and high fashion model, and he is know for his... unique way of treating his lover. ota has this master pet kink in which he pretty much takes care of mc as though she’s his dog, even going as far as calling her koro (the name of his real late pet dog). i’ll admit, it kind of weirded me out at first, but i quickly got over it because i just love watching him take care of mc so much. he’s really bratty on the outside, but you can tell that he really really cares for mc and her well being, and he’d literally die for her.
i’ve read most of his stories, my favorite stories of his is probably his engagement cruise story (the season 4 main story) and his missing you sub story! his perfect family sub story and pov’s are really good too! his main stories from season 1 to 3 aren’t that great though, that’s probably why he’s last on this list.
4. SEIICHIROU HAYAMI
next up we have seiichirou hayami from my wedding and 7 rings! he is the stand-in ceo of sanno corporation as well as the director of the marriage program. he’s so curt yet so sweet and his robotic personality always cracks me up! although he comes off as a slightly pretentious at the beginning, once you get to know him better, you realize he’s really caring and he’s always so respectful towards mc, it honestly makes me melt. he’s also a surprisingly greedy lover, which i find adorable because he never really acts on it, so he just pouts in the corner when he gets jealous. oh, and i find his love for tropical fish to be really cute!
my favorite stories of his are his main story and his pov. i find his pov is especially good!
3. HIDEKI ISHIGAMI
next, we have hideki ishigami! more specifically, hideki ishigami from my sweet bodyguard! now, i know he has a route both on my sweet bodyguard and her love in the force, however i like him better in my sweet bodyguard, so i’m going to say that he’s from there. unlike in her love in the force, in my sweet bodyguard, he’s just so awkward. he tries to act all tough and cold, but man is too awkward to function at times, it’s adorable! he tries really hard to hide his affection for mc, but literally everybody and their mom knows that he’s in love her. he’s also surprisingly romantic once you begin dating him, which i really like!
i love his main story (season 1), as well as his main story pov sub story (i believe it’s called psd his pov set). i liked him a lot in the sub story, pajama talk, too!
2. JIN NAMBA
coming in at number two we have jin namba from her love in the force! clearly, i really like older guys, as you can see. he is the chief of the public safety police department and he is the oldest man on this list at 40 years of age. he’s sweet, caring and absolutely hilarious! his self deprecating/old guy humor and dad jokes crack me up every time! he’s also (in my opinion) the hottest man on this list (i mean, look at him). despite his cool exterior, he’s also really mysterious, like i don’t think we’ll ever truly know who jin namba really is.
my favorite stories of his are his main story pov (season 1) and his who i once was sub story! that sub story broke my heart, man, you have no idea.
1. MITSUNARI BABA
my favorite voltage man of all time is... mitsunari baba from kissed by the baddest bidder! this thief, i swear... he’s funny, caring, thoughtful, gentlemanly, generous, considerate and so relatable! he honestly has the best lines of the kissed by the bidder cast, he makes me laugh in every single story he’s in! he’s literally so supportive of mc, he’s so respectful towards her and he’s always and i mean ALWAYS there for her! he constantly makes sure she’s happy and he never hesitates to comes to her rescue when something’s wrong. also i just love how him and mc are like that gross couple you roll your eyes at in public.
what’s my favorite story of his? um, all of them? even the stories aren’t his like threes a crowd and his heart: shuichi. but i really loved him in the sub story the magic spell and his main story pov (season 1), those are the ones i reread the most.
before i end this post, here are some honorable mentions: shuichi hishikura from kissed by the baddest bidder, masaki saionji from diary of a step sister, yuki saejima from bad boys do it better and yakov chernenkov from be my princess!
I just wished they would make a Subaru route in HliTF (include Sora and Mizuki as well pls)
HIDEKI ISHIGAMI IN MSB VS HLITF
hey! so i’ve been meaning to make this post about one of my favorite voltage men, ishigami, for a while, so here we finally are! i hope you enjoy!
WARNING: THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM ISHIGAMI’S MAIN STORY IN MSB AND HLITF
okay so in this post i’ll be comparing ishigami’s main stories in each game, his personality/him as a character and his connection with the mc. at the end, i’ll reveal my final thoughts and which version of ishigami i prefer.
alright, so first some context: hideki ishigami is a possible love interest in both hlitf and msb. in both stories, he works as detective, however in msb, he’s a deputy inspector who works for the public security devision, while in hlift, he ranks as captain and he specializes in information analysis. he first debuted in msb (2011). due to msb’s overwhelming success, the writers at voltage decided to give him, goto and kurosawa (other inspectors in msb) their own “spin off” game, thus hlitf (2014) was born.
despite sharing a name, ishigami in hlitf and ishigami in msb are drastically different! which is why i really wanted to compare the two for you today.
in msb, you are the daughter of the president and ishigami is a detective who happens to work closely with the bodyguards who’ve been hired to protect you.
in hlitf, you are a police cadet and ishigami is your instructor.
despite both being softcore tsundere’s/kuudere’s, ishigami is a lot kinder in msb than in hlitf. he’s still as cold and stand-offish but he’s wayyy less aggressive and he tends keeps most of his opinions to himself, contrary to ishigami in hlitf, who really doesn’t hold back. msb ishigami is like the strong quiet type, while hlitf ishigami is more of the scary quiet type. ishigami is also noticeably more awkward in msb, while ishigami in hlitf, comes off as very confident, borderline cocky. it could be argued that their differences in personality stem from the fact that ishigami technically works for you in msb, whilst in hlitf, he’s your instructor. but i think his personality was written differently simply so that it would fit in the storyline better. an “evil” instructor is way funnier and more entertaining than a polite instructor, and a curt detective makes more sense than an arrogant detective (in this context).
furthermore, although their backstories are similar, they’re not the same. ishigami’s backstory in msb is actually more tragic than his backstory in hlitf. in msb, ishigami grew up in the orphanage, while in hlitf, ishigami grew up in a loving adoptive family. this would explain ishigami’s awkwardness and uneasiness around people in msb.
if you want more information about each version of ishigami, click here.
HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH MC
(before you start dating)
in msb, ishigami works for the government, the government being your father, thus creating this weird superior/subordinate slash mutual friends slash coworkers who really respect each other dynamic. you both see each other as superior to the other, and since he works with people who are technically your employees (but also happen to be your friends), you remain fairly professional yet friendly towards one another.
in hlitf, it’s a completely different story. ishigami is your instructor, consequently creating a teacher/student dynamic. ishigami is cold, brutally honest and very critical of you (like any strict teacher), and you’re constantly seeking his approval (while simultaneously hating him).
(after you start dating)
ishigami in hlitf and ishigami in msb become extremely similar once you start dating. both are very caring, considerate, patient, thoughtful and both deeply value good communication.
MY FINAL THOUGHTS
i actually liked msb ishigami better than hlitf ishigami, which is surprising since i usually prefer the brutally honest asshole type. i think the only reason why is because msb ishigami really reminds me of someone in my personal life, who i deeply care for.
if we’re discussing stories, i think i liked ishigami’s msb main route better too. although both were good (despite their respective flaws), ishigami’s route in msb feels more organic in my opinion, like him and the mc fell in love because they wanted to, not because he was conveniently her instructor so it was kind of just bound to happen, you know what i mean? that’s just my opinion.
nonetheless i think both versions of ishigami are great and i really recommend both of his main routes! (his substories/sequels/epilogues really aren’t that great in my opinion tho)

And I was wondering what to bake for this year’s Christmas. Thanks, old MSB’s holiday stories! :D
Yep, I know I'm a day late, but i haven't drawn for almost 10 years and it took me more time and effort than I tought it would.
Happy birthday, my beloved instructor! ❤
(The second one)
Ayumu? Is that you? What are you doing in MSB? O_o
Nice nickname btw XD
MSB is having a comeback and I dont see anyone taking abt it wha-
Where are my MSB stans??? Am I the only who missed our fav actress??? Where are the MSB-is-back parties????
Also, hell week is over for me and I got all my shit for work done and dusted so for the next few days, I will be dedicating my life to Voltage (and maybe on that hlitf Goto s1 essay)
Okay so as I’ve said before I’ve recently fallen back into old bad habits (meaning my binge-buying Voltage stories)
As I was reading Goto’s POV in MSB, I came across this gem:
HE DOESNT EVEN NEED TO SAY ANYTHING YOU CAN HEAR THE EXACTS THOUGHTS RUNNING THROUGH HIS HEAD
INSIDE ISHIGAMI’S HEAD:
I really should make a separate folder for my cyborg-Ishigami screenshots collection...
Hoo hoo! This is an interesting conversation about rumors going around, but poor Ishigami has a sensitive side too. Haha, if Daichi were a cyborg, he’d be the Arnold Schwarzenegger of My Sweet Bodyguard. Then, Kosugi would have him play in a parody of “Terminator 2: Judgment Day”.
Seiji knows how to talk things through ahead of his superior, Ishigami.
It’s the odd genius at work (fast new work, if you’ll please).
That skull necklace is something else, besides the Kosugi versus Osugi rivalry.
January 21, 2020
Sorry I wasn't able to upload the Bad Boys Do It Better photo from my 10th anniversary fan book yesterday. Therefore, I will upload these two old games. Bad Boys Do It Better was worked on in Japan in 2008, while My Sweet Bodyguard was in 2009.
Remember, this book is a special 10th anniversary fanbook from the December 2017 event in Japan. It qas shipped internationally to my so yes, it's an expensive booklet. Those who try to search for one through websites such as eBay, Yahoo! Auctions, Amazon Japan, Rakuten, Otsukai, Otamart, CD Japan, etc. will have to remember it's not going to be cheap, but it's the real deal. Just as other fanbooks, they do come with expenses.
Goto Seiji - Her Love in the Force
MS1 - Meeting Him
(Note: These are all replays since the last time I’ve played their routes were more than five years ago and are written before I read His POV)
Goto has always been a sweet guy, be it his MSB route or HLITF route. Since I already have a sense of how he acts, it wasn’t all too surprising when he acts sweet to the MC in his MS1.
I gave the plot a 3 mainly because nothing too exciting happens. The romance and the closeness of the MC and Goto were definitely much better than in the other guys routes, but when it comes to the main crime storyline, I find that it’s a little abrupt and too out of the blue. Of course we have the usual story of how the MC works hard at her studies to keep afloat in the academy, but one thing that is starkly different is to how he actually understands his full time aide this time. In fact, the MC’s fraudulent admission felt like it was pushed aside, meant as a comment rather than a drive in the story unlike other routes that I’ve replayed so far. This partly have to do with Goto’s personality and background, and while I admit it is a nice change, it was also quite confusing considering that fraudulent admissions should be a bigger thing. For the main crime subplot, we were told that the chief of the police headquarters got kidnapped and that the Public Safety officers were now in need to coordinate even with their students to retrieve the hostage. As it was out of the blue, biggest point being the sprite of the main criminal Terauchi (sorry I cannot remember your name) only appearing at the end, I’d thought that it was probably a public safety exercise meant to weed out incapable students from the lot. As it’s been years since I’ve played any routes from voltage, and thus cannot remember Goto’s plot at all, I was really proud of myself for thinking it’d go the former way but boy was I surprised when it turned out to be a real thing. It almost felt rushed, as though the writers wanted to churn out a main plot line before the deadline of ten chapters, but it was nevertheless enjoyable.
It’s a given, but Goto’s probably the nicest out of everyone in his MS1. We’re not counting the MS2 yet so Ishigami definitely isn’t a contender. Kurosawa isn’t a contender as well as we all know he’s a double edged sword. It was refreshing – I really wished I could use a different word but it just is – to have someone who treats the MC humanely. Kaga did say that Goto wasn’t kind but indifferent, but as compared to the sadistic and mean streaks of the others, was just a breath of fresh air. Nearing the end, we know that Goto wasn’t simply indifferent, rather I think that he’s just bad with words. It was lovely to see a blushy sprite of his so early on in the story instead of seeing it only at the end of the MS2. He seems to find camaraderie with the MC, having both enter Public Safety without any connections or elitism involved. For that specific reason, I do believe that is why he chose her to be his full time aide. The undercover work they did together as a couple was an appetiser, with my favourite part of his whole MS1 being him putting a cold can of coffee on MC’s cheeks. It was a rare display of affection, and I liked it better than when the two gets up close and personal during their private shooting training. Goto seems to keep an eye out for the MC, noticing the hard work she puts in but at the same time, he doesn’t tell this to her face either. At the end of his MS1, we get Goto shielding the MC from a bullet, with it luckily grazing him instead of targeting any vital organs. Kaga mused that the Ace of Public Safety did had a weakness, and it was apparent that Kaga, Soma and Goto already knew of Goto’s protective feelings for the MC, with her being the only one out of the loop. Also, plus points for his MS1 for having the domestic love trope going on with the MC cooking, cleaning and ironing his handkerchiefs for him. If this was real life, I don’t think I’ll be as motivated as the MC hah.
I gave the MC a full five points because of how straight laced she is. It could be very one dimensional to some, but I liked that there’s an equal amount of emphasis on work in her route. She gets to go on two major missions in his MS1, the first undercover work with Goto at the start, and her being a decoy for the Public Safety at the end. We get to see this country side, peace loving MC progress from making mistakes to being a bad ass and having a main role to play as the decoy. If this was real life (yes I say this a lot) it would be impossible for a trainee to be put into that situation, considering her overall grades in the academy. It would have probably went to someone like Naruko but I have faith that it was her hard work before and after classes that pulled through. She didn’t hesitate at all to save the child from the nuisance, knowing he’d go as low as to take a child hostage. The MC didn’t even hesitate to kick his butt when Goto got hurt from shielding her, only retreating when she saw Kaga emerged out of nowhere. This was also the route we get to see Instructor Narita in all of his chauvinistic glory. I was just hollering when Naruko told him off but of course the chauvinistic ass managed to put a fast one on the MC. But even so, the MC remained calm and only vowed to work harder, doubling her efforts, which was what led Goto to notice her in the first place. For her grit, perseverance, patience and smarts, it’s no wonder that she gets a full points for Goto’s MS1. My favourite MC as of this review I’m writing is Shinonome’s, whom I know many don’t really love 😜 But Goto’s MC is just as subdued as him, which is good since she’s meant to compliment his personality.
Kurosawa Toru - Her Love in the Force
MS1 - Meeting Him
(Note: I’m a pretty lenient reviewer so take it as you may)
Kurosawa was one of those routes that I wanted to play after finishing his route in My Sweet Bodyguard. I expected greater things, as I think the writing in HLITF is heaps better than in MSB. His MS1 fell slightly short off my expectations but it wasn’t as horrible as the reviews I’ve read so far, but to be fair, to each their own. Let’s get to why the ratings are like this. (Spoilers included)
The only reason why the plot isn’t a full five stars is because I feel like there are points where it gets repetitive. To be as fair as possible, real life stakeouts probably takes as much time and repetitiveness so I guess there is that element of realism in the writing to reflect that. Of all Voltage plot lines, the ones HLITF have is my personal favourite simply because it’s written better, not too naive or mature, pretty balanced etc. The story progresses pretty quickly and it doesn’t feel too off considering that Kurosawa isn’t her direct instructor, which is written great, when you factor in the premise of the whole plot anyway. A cult involving drug deals definitely is shady but like how the MC questioned in the end to why Public Safety was involved, I too was confused when she linked it to terrorism. Maybe it was because I read too fast, but I didn’t really understand the link to it, because it was insinuated that drug dealings were in no way Public Safety’s main domain of work. I think it was due to funding of drug dealings that will in whole fund the whole terrorism aspect/organisation. If this was real life, I’m very sure both Public Safety and the criminal division will work together to handle the situation but this is an otome after all. I’ll re-read the end when I have the time so I can grasp the situation a little better.
There’s... not much romance in his MS1 to be honest. There are alot of underlying tension between the MC and Kurosawa, but in terms of acting on it, I would say it’s almost nonexistent. MC treats Kurosawa as an ideal senpai, someone she admires greatly and only in the later half did she let it get to her that she might have feelings for this guy, though as many Voltage routes, it’s always a denial first. The Happy Ending at the last chapter felt not too happy in my opinion. They banged and then he left her but that is also standard HLITF MS1 endings I guess in terms of how open ended it felt. The CG did made up the abrupt ending, as I was blown away when I saw the illustration. Really really well done 🥵 Rather than romance, I think the underlying sexual tension they have with each other is much more than the romance aspects. Kurosawa clearly cares for the MC, but I don’t think either of them caught on to it yet pretty much during the whole duration in this MS1. It was pretty confusing to suddenly have him tell the MC that her company was a one time thing when it’s already implied that he liked her, but then again, I think first time readers to Kurosawa might find it jarring but I expected it having read his MSB routes before.
Kurosawa’s MC is actually pretty relatable, though there are some things she said that I cringed really hard at. One instance that comes to mind is the beginning of the route when she said to arrest the creep, which quickly became a running joke in the route. She’s more thick skinned as well (maybe not as much as Kaga’s from the little I remember) because if I was in her shoes, I don’t think I can survive working with Ishigami who was always cold to her at all. In fact, Ishigami does seem harsher on her as compared to the other routes. I really like how they highlighted her as being really kind, like there’s a good amount of emphasis to show her as that type of person, which I think is perfect for Kurosawa’s real personality and complements him. My favourite part of the story was when she didn’t gave up on the informant, though I did think it was stupid of her to involve her mother considering the nature of her job, and she should have known than to involve civilians in the force’s matters. She seems to be a more action first, think later type of person, which isn’t so bad but I do think it’s too unidealistic for someone who aspires to graduate from the Academy. I would say her being thickskinned, her grit and also her kindnesss are the better aspects of the MC’s personality during Kurosawa’s route. As for worse parts, it would be her naivety and foolishness having already worked as an officer before. Or maybe that was just meant to highlight how peaceful the countryside was as compared to the city, given her workload and thinking.
