mushroom hunting except youre the mushroom
When I ran on my own two twig legs to the supermarket three miles down the strees to buy a whole bag of tomatoes and made tomato soup to stress drink said tomato soup straight out the pot, that was when I realised life gave me my first vibe check
I found mushrooms on my walk today!
I'm only sure of what kind one of them is (because it's common and edible, not sure of the english name), the species detector app was unsure what the rest are. I left them behind anyway. The edible one was too old. But fun to finally find some mushrooms!
Also some pics from the woods. Trees. Some kinds of salix trees on these pictures. And a pretty flower.
(bonus pic: the dogcat <3)
I foraged mushrooms and made them into dramatic goth bucatini carbonara. Next time I'll have to use squid ink pasta for extra 💀✨razzle dazzle✨💀
(I used J. Kenji López-Alt for guidance on the base recipe.)
Me: I could never eat a mushroom I foraged myself; cellophane makes me feel safe.
One week later: What do you taste like??I'm gonna make black trumpet carbonara.
Very tasty! Subtly smokey, woody, but mostly savory.
I only cooked up one (EVOO and sea salt) to make sure I can tolerate it. You never know.
Assuming I make it through the night...carbonara!
Me at 6 PM: I just foraged and supped upon the fruits of my labors! I am a creature of the forest, powerful and wise!
Me at 3 AM when I experience a slight itch:
Look on my slug, ye mighty, and despair! Seriously he was just straight up using two side by side Cantharellus mushrooms as bar stools, the absolute madman
should start posting my mushroom finds😌 here r some panther caps from the puget sound area!!
Friend in a far-away land: so... Whatcha been up to...?
Me in a conspiratorial whisper: *spore prints*
Some fun photos from my summer mushroom foraging experience here in Indiana. Gold and cinnabar red chanterelles, horn of plenty, old man of the woods, Tawny milkcap/chichitake, pleurotus ostreatus/oyster. More to come. Probably was blessed with around 15-20 pounds of chanterelles this season.
Thoughts on the heat wave
Found some coprinellus micaceus/mica caps!
"Mica caps must be cooked and eaten almost immediately after collecting as they will begin to deliquesce or dissolve into an inky black spore filled liquid within 1 to 3 hours. Cooking halts the process of auto-digestion (enzymatic process)."
🍄 Foraging Finds 🍄
Mushrooms are so fun to draw, so I made a whole sticker set of them! Includes a few forest friends as well! 🐌 🍄
You can find these here!
Agaricus augustus aka “The Prince” found in the woods by my house! the first one was huge but the smaller ones taste better (and they’re still pretty big. they would not fit in my basket, hence the box)
easily identifiable from the “almond” smell/stipe ring/coloration. the tastiest edible mushroom imo :^)
Indigo Milk Cap. Very good !! Very blue !! A very fine mushroom.
Bonus points because they're edible !!
Hydnellum sp. and Xylaria polymorpha. Respectively, “bleeding tooth fungus” and “dead man’s fingers.” Along with my last post about “trumpet of the dead,” these are contenders for names of your metal band
seriously debating signing up for a folk school class
