Welcome back and time to talk about something I noticed while mindlessly scrolling the historic meta game that I thought was cool and worth sharing. There is a new deck on MTG goldfish historic meta page call BR and the creatures are all from Kaldheim. There are other spells and lands in the deck from other sets, but every creature on this list is from the latest set.
All but the first card on this list are a “god” creature in some capacity. But the reason I bring this up and something I am curious about from my readers is do you think when this sort of thing happens that the set impacted the format positively or negatively. I don’t mean impact a format like with energy which was absurd and annoying as a standard set because the card pool to control it was nonexistent. I mean when a set is dropped and there is a deck based around some of the different cards in the set.
To me this, along with the pathway lands and a few other select spells, means that Kaldheim for Historic was a positive. And Historic(in my opinion) is not far from pioneer so I believe the same for that format. I know modern had some issues, and standard shockingly has been silent to this point. But this is one way I try to look at a set once its released, how did it impact the various formats of MTG. You will notice I left off EDH, im never really sure how to quantify this one and my biggest issue is the large card pool and singleton set up means combos need to be supported a bit and single cards can never be casted in a game to really impact it.
How do you judge a set

Still bitter to this day at the weird stuff added to the hobbit
Urschel began a Ph.D. in mathematics at MIT in 2016 while playing football in the NFL for the Ravens. MIT does not allow Ph.D. students to study part-time so Urschel did both!
During the 2016 NFL season, after a home game Urschel studied
from 5:30pm Sunday to Tuesday 11am when football practice began, taking correspondence classes and focusing on spectral graph theory, numerical linear algebra, and machine learning.
Urschel was named to Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list of outstanding young scientists. His Forbes biography states “Urschel has published six peer-reviewed mathematics papers to date and has three more ready for review. That’s a respectable publication history for someone who only started pursuing their PhD at MIT this year. He’s won academic awards for his math prowess. All this while playing guard for the Baltimore Ravens.”
The only reason Doom didn’t get the reference is because he came from a past before Back to the Future. It’s the only logical explanation considering he’s a nerd.
