2020 reflections and thoughts going into 2021
2020 was the year many of us will remember as the year of the global pandemic, the whirlwind elections, and- more widely- the worst. but like with anything in life, this past year has had it’s highs and lows. don’t get me wrong; i don’t ever want to experience that gut-wrenching feeling that preys on the pits of your stomach as you drive past a massive freezer truck stationed in the street to collect dead bodies. but i think it’s important to look at every aspect of the situation. undoubtedly, 2020 saw some horrific moments, but we also saw some incredibly heroic ones. local grocery drives, teachers who showed up outside of students’ houses to help explain difficult lessons, and those who gave it their all on the front line are all reasons for us to have hope for humanity yet. so, even though this past year doesn’t feel like a bag of mixed apples, we really do have a lot to be grateful for. and so, without further ado, here are my 2020 reflections:
going into 2021, i have some personal goals for which i’m hoping to implement certain habits to eventually achieve them. feel free to adopt some into your own routine as well:
i kept it real simple this year because i know that these new habits will lead to overall self improvement, rather than achieving any one major milestone. i’ve got a lot to say about why i chose the items that i did, so check back for updates inshaAllah.
ونسأل الله ﷻ التوفيق

I never liked the idea of New Year Resolutions, to me they’re really activities poeple do to occupy themselves until the fun months get here. Its of no coincidence that gym membership takes a dive right before Super Bowl, Valentines Day and the half off sale of the chocolate the next day, and Daytona 500 occur. Because no one wants to exercise or diet unless they really have to when fun stuff is happening.
Photo-a-day challenge. 2021 Edition #015
It was a much better weather today. The rain has stopped and the cold calmed down. We went out for some coffee and lunch. Nowhere to sit and enjoy of course. Grabbed our take away and made it back home as quick as we can.
I walked without limping as well. I am so glad about that. The stitches are supposed to come out on monday. Having a bath is very challenging but only a few more days to go.
The mindfulness challenge continues. The Week of First Steps and The Week of Awe ends today. It’s ironic that on the week that I’m supposed to be mindful of my first step outside I injure my leg. I get stuck indoors even more when I’m supposed to find things outdoors to be in awe of.
I guess it’s that weird energy you attract when you have doubts on things. I will not give up though. I picked another card from the jar. It’s time for week three.
Challenge Your Beliefs Week
Throughout this week, be attentive to moments when you express a belief or strong opinion. Make a mental note of the belief or write it down. Later, when alone, take ten minutes to imagine that you believe in the opposite.
The belief could be political, religious, on a specialist subject or life in general. The stronger your belief, the more effective this exercise will be.
How does it feel to take the opposite side of the argument? Do you begin t understand where people on the other side are coming from? Imagine how your opinion sounds to them. There are no right or wrong answers here. It is simply an exercise in empathy and understanding. Perhaps our differences are not as stark as we thought.
Challenging your beliefs helps you learn more about yourself and increases your empathy for others.
This is for this week. Let’s see how I do with this one. Now I’m off to bed.

Finally got around to burning what I wanted to let go of from 2020, guess I should have added #procrastination to that list 😬🔥 #newyearsresolution #2020 #2021 #ffs (at Beltline)
Every year resolution. #faceswap #moneymoves #money #wcw #newyearsresolution
Not a #newyearsresolution but rather a general goal to hopefully help with my back pain and help me be a better rider. 💁🏻♀️
Now to convince myself to actually get up and do the work. So…tired… 😴
