WHAT WATCHING BIG BROTHER NAIJA WILL DO TO YOUR SOUL – APOSTLE AROME OSAYI

I was scrolling through Facebook and I saw sixteen pictures of high points in “big brother”. Saw smooching simulations, engrafted kissing and the devil is preaching a doctrine of immorality and young people buying into the technology. That’s the same model that Cane established. So they are adapting Cane’s technology on air and everybody is zooming in. Oh… you don’t understand what sin does to the…

UAE lifts suspension on flights from Nigeria

Seven months after it stopped scheduled flights from Nigeria, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday announced that it has lifted the ban.

A statement by the National Emergency and Crisis Management Authority, NECMA, confirmed that the lift of the ban takes effect tomorrow.

The UAE government imposed the ban on February 4 following diplomatic row over COVID-19 protocols. Nigeria and 10 other countries were affected.

The countries are: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Uganda, Vietnam, South Africa, Afghanistan, Indonesia and Bangladesh.

UAE-bound passengers would be able to transit through the airports of the affected countries as long as they present negative PCR tests taken 72 hours before departure.

The statement reads: “Travel for transit passengers from all countries from which transit passengers have been suspended will be resumed in advance provided that the passenger’s last destination is accepted with a laboratory check-up within 72 hours of departure and state airports will allocate special lounges for transit passengers.

“Emergencies, crises and civil aviation announce the exclusion of new categories of passengers from some of the banned countries, including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Nigeria and Uganda, as of August 5.

“These categories include those with valid residency permits who have received full vaccination doses in the UAE and 14 days have passed since receiving the second dose and who have vaccination certificates approved by the official authorities in the country.

“Medical personnel working in the country will be excluded; including doctors, nurses, technicians from restaurants and non-restaurants, and those working in the educational sector in the country who teach in universities, colleges, schools and institutes; from the vaccinated and non-vaccinated categories.

“Students studying in the country, humanitarian cases who hold valid residency and workers in federal and local government agencies, and cases of completing treatment in the country, whether they are vaccinated or not, will also be excluded.

“All these categories will be required to submit a request on the website of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship to obtain the necessary approvals in addition to the certificates of vaccination certified by the relevant authorities in the country for the categories from which these certificates are required.

“The excluded groups will be obligated to submit a prior PCR test within (48) hours from the date of departure, provided that the tests are from accredited laboratories carrying a QR Code, and conduct a quick laboratory test before boarding the plane.

“In addition to applying precautionary and preventive measures to receive arrivals, including quarantine and PCR checks upon and after arrival, as well as follow-up and health monitoring of arrivals.”

Abdulkarim Alhaji Isa*, Mustapha Muhammed, Yahaya Abdullahi Geidam and Alkali Mohammed Grema Department of General Studies Mai Idris Alooma Polytechnic, Geidam, Yobe State *Correspondence author
Abstract The objective of this research is to investigate the factors responsible for youth radicalization in Yobe State, Nigeria. The study adopted social structure and anomie theory. A sample size of 315 respondents was selected through multi-stage sampling which includes; cluster sampling, purposive sampling, simple random sampling technique for qualitative data, and quantitative data were collected through questionnaire and in-depth interview respectively. Thus, the analysis was mixed method. The study found out that the extent of youth radicalization in Yobe State is very high because more youths are being recruited. Illiteracy, ignorance, poverty, religious manipulation, globalisation, unemployment, injustice and political interests are some of the factors that motivated the youths to join radicalized groups. Consequences of youth radicalization include; destruction of lives, valuable properties, displacement of families and widespread public panic. To address youth radicalization in Yobe State, the study recommended that education, enlightenment, provision of employment, protecting the youths from extremist views spread by less knowledgeable preachers, community policing, guidance and counseling of arrested radicalized youths and use of intelligence gathering safeguard the border from foreign influences.
Keywords: Radicalization, Boko Haram, Factors responsible for youth radicalization, Causes, Consequences and Deradicalization strategies
    Introduction
Radicalisation is a subject that has attracted the attention of the global communication, hence a subject of deliberation for government officials, media practitioners, scholars and security officials. This is because the problem has become pervasive around the world. Countries like Nigeria that used to only watch the rise of radicalization on other parts of the world are now witnessing the upsurge of some youth militant groups that became obvious source of threats to the Nigeria’s collective security. Formation of radical militants, such as Maitatsine, in the 1982, and some recent movements like MEND (Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta), OPC (Odua People Congress), and MASSOB (Movement for the Actualizations of the Sovereign State of Biafra), in various regions of the country have already took place with their violent agitations, but the most active militant group in the present Yobe State North-east in particular and Nigeria in general is Boko Haram. However, there had been several civil resistances that led to conflicts between powerful authorities and some segment of societies since colonial Nigeria. In the post-colonial era, there were some historic events that were predictably having tendency to lead to insurgency.
