Heroes' Odyssey: A look at Tiga's battle and loss against Gatanothor, and how a miracle allowed him to revive and defeat the evil god.
The Absolute Conspiracy: As he clashes with Zero, Tartarus comments he never thought someone would enter Narak voluntarily. The too clash, but Tartarus can see the combined form Zero is using is taking a lot. Taiga, Titas and Fuma join as Taiga Tri-Strium and challenge Zett directly, Z joining them after gaining resolve, together then unleash finishers on Zett, who attempts to regenerate the Zetton army endlessly, Taiga powers up and uses Rainbow Strium Burst to destroy the army. Zero appears, defeated by Tartarus, who appears to grab Yullian again, announcing that the Absolutions instead to take over the Land of Light and create a second homeworld, The Kingdom, which is why he needed an army. He saved Reibatos from Belial, took Juda and Mold who were battling Andro Melos, he pulled the Maga-Orochi egg to Mikarito, and took Leucocyte to Kanon. He can assemble an army of anyone through time. Belial and Tregear appear to punctuate the point. He warns if the planet is not surrendered Yullian will be killed, and leaves, Tregear and Belial stopping the heroes from attacking. Before anything more can be done, or even thought of, Hikari alerts them of Genegarg stealing the Z Riser and Ultra Medals, and Z rushes off to pursue. Ribut and Taiga tell Zero to follow him, they'll take care of Ultra League in the meantime, and Grigio restores Zero before he leaves. Tartarus leaves the captive Yullian, who turns and sees a figure she seems to recognise, a figure in shadow and shackles? The Kingdom is Coming.
Saber: While the former Northern Base members now know humans really are becoming Megiddo, which probably reduces Rintaro's odds of fully being swept up by Reika's words, Reika says they must still be eliminated. Ren is now the one she can most easily manipulate, claiming Touma is trying to do what Kamijo failed (which is true). The thing with Ren is he's too emotional, shown here especially, he's prioritising his personal feelings, trying to take Ikazuchi from Touma, over stopping the Megiddo. Which is exactly what Reika wants. And then there's Desast, who now that he's free has a different goal from the others, and an interest in Ren. Nice double attack from them there. In the end we're just waiting for things to progress, but thanks to Storious Daishinji and Ogami have their own suspicions about Sophia's disappearance.
Kiramager: Crunchula seems pretty desperate, and we are in the final stretch. Is this the last Jamenshi? This was someone in production's fetish wasn't it? The stuff with Juru and Crunchula on the other hand is nice. I had forgotten about the fact he was only 4/5 Crunchula now, what part of him was destroyed? You know, of the 3 generals to get any kind of sympathetic leanings before the show ended, Crunchula was not the one I expected. Garza had a chance very early on, but that chance is long gone, but Yodonna I think might still have a shot. What is Garza's plan?
Dogengers: Kitaqman has moved himself in with Tanaka to avoid the commute from Kitakyushu. He calls Yamashiron about lunch the next day, learning he's making curry on Nokonoshima, Tanaka asks to come since that's where Yuki is, Kitaqman here dubs him as Rookie, even though the name was already on the suit. Shaberryman shows the rest of AHK about Yamashiron's efforts to feed the evacuees, Yabai Kamen and Nectaris head to Nokonoshima. After Tanaka tells Kitaqman about wanting to meet Yuki, they find Redron, Aoiron and Daidairon. Aoiron and Daidairon are arguing over whether safety or taste is more important, with Redron trying to save face, when Yabai Kamen shows up, and in being told it's one portion per person, splits into three. The three Yabai Kamen taunt the heroes, in particular demolishing Daidairon's confidence. Tanaka changes to Rookie to help, but before he arrives Redron manages to motivate his allies, and they merge into Yamashiron. Nectaris arrives to face Yamashiron, leaving Yabai Kamen to "Ohgaman". Yamashiron wields the Cutnatlass, and slices into Nectaris, managing to remove the power of the Golden Seal, and accidentally swallow it, it powers him up into Yamashiron Tsuyobi Mode. Now massively powered up, he intends to face Yabai Kamen, only to find Yabai Kamen has defeated Rookie, and confirmed he isn't Ohgaman. Yuki has seen at least some of this.
Heroes' Odyssey: Showcases Z Gamma Future Vs Five King, then Tiga, Dyna and Gaia against Five King, then showcases Dyna against Reicubas and Gaia and Agul against Super Pazuzu and Super C.O.V.
The Absolute Conspiracy: Aboard a Royal Spaceship, 80 and Yullian are accompanied by 4 other Ultras, heading to Planet Kanon for a Galactic Federation Peace Summit, when they are attacked, crash landing on Planet Ebil, with only 80 and Yullian making it out, and are approached by Zett and a far larger Zetton army. Yullian sends an Ultra Sign, seen by the Inter Galactic Defence Force leadership, who raise the alarm, Mebius and Taiga sorting, with Z insisting on joining. Zett reveals he's there to capture Yullian, grabbing her as the rescue team arrive, the three leap into battle, allowing 80 to guard Yullian as they fight, Mebius using his own power and then Burning Brave alongside 80 against Zett. Z's struggle is interrupted by the arrival of Zero, Ribut, Andro Melos, Joneus, Grigio, Titas and Fuma, the team leaps into battle. Zero tells Z not to try and do everything by himself, and joins Taiga in battle, Taiga using his Plasma Zerolet thecniques. Joneus and Titas team up, as do Ribut and Fuma, Andro Melos defeats a team on his own, and Grigio teams with Yullian. Yullian debuted about 40 years ago,and here for the first time got to use a beam attack. Tartarus appears to grab Yullian, leading Zero to combine his powers and become Ultimate Shining Ultraman Zero, he rescues Yullian and pulls Tartarus through his own portal.
Saber: 11 Seiken, 19 Wonder Rider Books. We including Kyomu in that list? Zooous and Storious both have some Megiddo active already. I am glad to see Rintaro still hasn't completely committed, but it will make him all the harder to convince of the truth after he has come to believe Touma is the enemy. Ogami and Daishinji, taking both Yuri's words and the fact they really have to wonder after what happened with Fukamiya, Kamijo and now Touma, have Daishinji test Touma's convictions, while Ogami will watch over Rintaro and Ren for now. I suppose now we have Monsters of the Week transformed from people there's going to be some focus in them. Yuri is giving SwordXMan another chance. Reika suspects what Daishinji is up to. So... where's everyone else from Southern Base. We were told they have their own Swordsmen, and we still have 2 Blades unaccounted for. Daishinji is able to hear Shingo's words from inside the Megiddo. But he has to have Touma prove his only intention is protecting. While he may obtain power, it is only to protect, not for his own gain. And the only way to do that is by the blade. But as of now he is unconvinced.
Kiramager: Turning humans into Jamenju is a pretty bold plan. And the Jamenshi managed to sow mistrust within the team to boot. Okay jeez, I didn't see the last part coming until it was too late. Why did Hatta's house disappear? At least Yodonheim have used up the Kanaema Stone now.
Dogengers: Kitaqman, thinking Tanaka is Ohgaman, after some quick consideration acts like he is totally unassociated with the gang of Arakuremono, then tells "Ohgaman" he went undercover. Afterwards, Tanaka manages to explain the situation, Kitaqman takes him to the park, where they're found by the Karami pair and the Marou Kaijin. Kitaqman plays fetch with Gulf while the others beat on Tanaka even after he transforms. Maid Shitsuji arrives, and Kitaqman bluffs that "Ohgaman" has recovered, hinting to Tanaka to pull down his Visor, when he does he immediately demonstrates a power up. Kitaqman stands in front of Tanaka, and uses the Kitaq SOS, calling for help, when told it will be 30 minutes they run to wait out the time, doing a lot of running and hiding until Maid Shitsuji corners them. Kitaqman angers Maid Shitsuji, causing them to demonstrate their increased power, after calling them a goat. Kitaqman's back up arrives, his younger brother Kitaqman Metal. Kitaqman leaves them to fight, Metal tells Tanaka to find his own power, by thinking of Yuki he manages to summon a syringe Lance, which he uses with his version of the Medical Education Book to trap Maid Shitsuji for his finisher along with Metal's Metallic Slash. Kitaqman dives in for a photo in the middle. As Maid Shitsuji is defeated, their new power leaves their body and flows into Kitaqman's phone. Tanaka collapses, and later recovers, Metal explains to him what sort of hero his brother is. Yuki calls, explaining she's now on Nokonoshima with the rest of those evacuated. Tanaka returns home to find Kitaqman has moved himself in.
Heroes Odyssey: Not likely to cover every episode, but will cover this episode a little. Zero is talking about people, villains and defenders across the universes. All the heroes I saw listed below, but on with the episode. Zero still not admitting Zero is his apprentice, come on dude. Okay, Zero is talking like the events of Z are still ongoing here. I might not talk about this much until nearer the end, we'll see.
Hayata, Dan, Go, Seiji, Misuzu, Gen, Choichiro, Yamato-sensei, Ryoko, Scott, Chuck and Beth, Jack, Kai, Spark Lens, Reflasher, Gamu, Fujimiya, Katsuto, Genki, Seven 21's girl disguise, Ginga, Musashi, Julie, Maki, Himeya, Komon, Kaito, Serizawa, Sakomizu, Mirai, Jin, Rei, Ran, Nao, Taiga, Hikaru, Shou, Daichi, Gai, Riku, Leito, Asahi, Isamu, Kataumi, Hiroyuki, STORAGE, Haruki. So a couple of oddities, specifically the use of Misuzu instead of Kotaro, the not using Asuka even though Tsuruno Takeshi is definitely not a problem like Nagano Hiroshi's agency is, never mind I have learnt some stuff, and using all 3 of Zero's hosts and only one of Nexus' (counting The Next and Noa as separate). There's also stuff like not using Tsubasa, Amui or Yuuto or Tomoya, or not using Kazamori even though they used Jim, but that's less weird really. Okay
The Absolute Conspiracy: We're now set between Zero & Z Voice Drama and Z itself. In Tartarus' relative past he brought Reibatos to Future Earth, where he revives Bat Seijin. Bat Seijin concluded that with a heart Zetton could defeat the Ultra heroes, creating Uchu Kyoju Majin Zett. Later, the Tri Squad train on Planet Maijii, a high gravity world where Taiga and Titas had trained before meeting Fuma, when Zett appears. Taiga and Titas recognised him from when they faced another version on U40 and sealed him, probably referencing a Voice Drama scenario. Zett summons the Zetton Army, two regular Zettons, 2 Hyper Zetton, EX Zetton and, a modification of a Baltan Zetton fusion from around the same time as Zett on stage, Zetton Falx. The team struggles against them. At Ayaka City Ultrawoman Grigio is still fighting on behalf of her brother's against Zandrias and Noiseler, managing to drive them off. Zero arrives to recruit her, Grigio mentioning her brothers are helping in the hunt to stop Devil Splinters. Tartarus arrives on U40, noting it will be a problem for him one day. Joneus' quickly appears and Tartarus challenges him. After determining he will be a threat, Tartarus leaves, Zero arriving right after to ask for his help. The Tri-Squad continue to struggle against the Zetton Army until the sudden arrival of Galaxy Rescue Force members Andro Melos and Ultraman Ribut.
Saber: Is the rooftop near Fantastic Bookstore Kamiyama? I thought of it as being like, Kento's place, but we're still using it so I don't know. Mei's editor is now a Yeti Megiddo. Yuri has been in Avalon for a thousand years it seems, doesn't like the comic SwordXMan, which seems like he might be making a comment on the show itself? Anyway, we're finally going to Southern Base. A reminder to the fandom that the fact to us Reika is clearly evil, or at least lying, doesn't make the fact the Northern Base members took her statements at face value contrived. Rintaro is incapable of seeing flaws within Sword of Logos due to his past, but at the same time wants to believe in Touma, while Ren is against Touma for believing Kamijo about the traitor given Kamijo killed Kento. Ogami and Daishinji don't really know what's true, but will follow Reika's instructions for now. Yuri seems... intrigued? Confused? By Legeiel...have they met, or does he know Legeiel as someone else? Okay, defeating Yuki-san's Megiddo form seems to part complete the new Alter Book she's using, or rather it's just time spent, if it completes she'll be gone. In the next battle Yuri demonstrates his next ability as Saikou, producing Shadow to fight with.
Kiramager: More focus in finding the last Kanaema Stone, and what is up with Takamichi and Garza? Oh, Illusia, that's what. I knew the mention of a crescent would tie into Garza somehow. Takamichi has unresolved issues with Garza, brought about by Oradin interrupting the last Graduel, in a way Mabusheena doesn't. And yeah, that Garza was trying to kill him I suspected. Garza symbolically destroys the image Takamichi has of him ever being a loving uncle. Yodonna gets away with Illusia.
Dogengers: Yabai Kamen declares to the assembled members of AHK that with the treasure he has acquired, a Golden Seal, they will end the era of the heroes. In Fukuoka City Tanaka Jiro watches the news, which is interrupted by Shaberryman, who announces he is on the run from heroes, specifically Fukuokaken Fukuokaliber, a wielder of two swords and the politest hero in Fukuoka. Fukuokaliber had been active for 8 years, and Dogengers is the debut of his new costume, indeed the promo images all use the original. The hero asks Kitaqman for help, but he's too busy showing off a drink on his blog, Shaberryman then runs into workers for Yahata Construction, including the boss, along with their hero, Tengen no Yusha El Brave, a masked wrestler who now fights as a hero, El Brave is completely resistant to the attacks, and is aided by the workers in fighting off Shaberryman, who bemoans the company finances going down the drain when he's interrupted by the Yamashiro Gas Co. Sales Department Hero Division, Redron, Aoiron and Daidairon. Redron is polite and a little naive, Aoiron has something of a cool image and Daidairon is the curry lover. Yamashiro Gas Co. is actually based in Saga Prefecture, but has offices in Fukuoka. With permission from the company, the three are able to combine into Yamashiron, and defeat Shaberryman, and the crowds celebrate the heroes. Tanaka admires the heroes' strength. He's talking with his childhood friend, Yuki, who he last saw 17 years ago when he moved to Tokyo, they're making plans to meet soon. Both make use of Hero related stickers. On Nokonoshima Island the heroes are filming Hero House, during which we see Kitaqman's Kitaq Machine. The girls seem to be having fun. On the ferry back to the mainland to get lunch, as they arrive the city is attacked, and they're soon confronted by Yabai Kamen, some Karami, as well as the Arakuremono thugs who support the two members of Marou Project, Marou Kaijin Gulf and Marou Kaijin Gallia. Marou just means Evil Wolf, Gulf is the elder brother with an Osaka accent who loves to fight, Gallia is the cuter younger brother with a Tokyo accent. As Yabai Kamen demonstrates his power, explaining he took the chance to invade while they were on Nokonoshima, the heroes evacuate those nearby to the island before confronting the villains, but Yabai Kamen demonstrates his power further. Tanaka finds himself at the scene of the battle, watching. The heroes are able to defeat the Karamis, but Gulf and Gallia demonstrate they're also stronger, wiping the heroes out. Tanaka, remembering his childhood, tries to stand up against the villains, but his heroic speech never makes it out if his imagination, Yabai Kamen does offer him membership as an Arakuremono. Sending the Marou's off, he tells Tanaka he's Fukuoka's last hero, and gloats, before the arrival of Ohgaman, who swiftly defeats the Karami with his thermometer projectiles, leaving him ready to challenge Yabai Kamen one on one.
I've decided to give my thoughts on the first season of Dogengers alongside the rebroadcast, since I didn't cover it at the time. There should then be a 2 week break before the second season starts, which I will use to cover episode 12.5. Is with that said, as the Episode 0 stage show is on their YouTube, we'll look at that shall we?
To start with, when talking about Dogengers, we first have to talk about Local Heroes. In other comedy/parody hero works, like Kamen Norider, Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger, Kanpai Senshi After V or even Ultraman Zearth or Nice, the focus is on a new character created to parody an existing series, and references to Sentai, Rider and Ultra are so prevalent in Japanese media that you could watch most of these without having ever watched an episode of the original property and still understand what is being parodied. However, with a couple of exceptions, the characters of Dogengers are not new characters, several of them have careers spanning years as local heroes, or indeed villains, and continue to act in this capacity after the first season.
Probably the most famous Local Hero in western fandom, at least before Dogengers happened, is Sea Jetter Kaito, local hero for Ishinomaki, based on designs created by the King of Manga himself. But many cities, prefectures, tourism spots, and corporations have these heroes representing them, and indeed plenty of the heroes that aren't mascots still have sponsorship from companies. These heroes perform at events, and a good number of them, like series breakout Kitaqman and arch-villain Yabai Kamen, have official theme songs predating the launch of this series. Of course, a good hero needs some good villains, and that's where Kabushikigaisha "Aku no Himitsu Kessha" comes in. (Essentially Secret Society of Evil Co. Ltd., I'll call them AHK from now on). AHK is a company that employs a number of villain's to act as villain's for the local heroes in various products, naturally in universe they're a literal company whose business is evil, and they serve as the series villains, and while almost all the villain's are preexisting, not all of them are normally considered to be part of AHK, but most of them are at least associated with it. The series is set in Fukuoka prefecture, I believe primarily in Fukuoka city, and the majority of the characters are based there.
Anyway, I've wasted enough time, let's go, Dogengers Episode 0. There are no subtitles for this so bear with me.
Dogengers: The show is opened by Shaberryman, the Wide Cannon department head for AHK, here he's just wearing his mask, but he'll have his full ensemble on in the show itself. Shaberryman serves as the writer for Dogengers, and the narrator for the recaps. After he does his brief intro, Yabai Kamen, CEO of AHK and the primary villain for Dogengers, takes the stage, with some AHK footsoldiers, the Karami. Yabai Kamen's appearance is the 3rd and longest serving version, the Headquarters version. After a little bit of scheming and what have you, the hero takes the stage, Kitaqman. Kitaqman represents Kitakyushu, and is noted for his preferring not to fight (claiming he's stiff and the like) and instead focus on his social media profile and the like, sharing his food on twitter, he might also be in charge of some of the editing on the show. His current costume is his 4th, and at this point is probably the one he has used the longest, making him a little more active. Anyway, after a little talking the villains attack Kitaqman who tries to.avoid attacks, before using his special move, phoning someone else to come deal with it. Help comes in the form of Yakuzai Senshi Ohgaman, a representative of Ohga Pharmacy, in story serving as their CEO. Ohgaman is noted for his ludicrously high stats, and his catchphrase, advising people of take their medicine and go to sleep. Here he walks on stage with his Visor Horn up, in the show I don't believe he ever appears without it already being down. He makes quick work of the villain's, who flew, but he captures the last Karami. Kitaqman tells Ohgaman about his idea for a Fukuoka Hero project called Hero House, the Karami is let go at this point, essentially a superhero version of the infamous Terrace House. He refuses to participate, because he's married and I believe has a child. The escaped Karami reports on Hero House to Yabai Kamen, and how the heroes will be on Nokonoshima Island to film it, leaving Fukuoka virtually undefended, he leaves Shaberryman to make plans surrounding that. After a long while Ohgaman comes to fight off Shaberryman and his Karami, leaving Yabai Kamen alone when he arrives, until the sudden arrival of Mushi Otome, an office manager for AHK, who doesn't appear in the show proper. Initially being very Dere with Yabai Kamen, she gets aggressive when Ohgaman interrupts her. Yabai Kamen takes a member of the audience hostage, leading Ohgaman to stop fighting briefly. He power up, Kitaqman coming along with Ohgaman's weapon to use as they fight. Kitaqman gets the Karami trio to flee, and pursues Yabai Kamen, while Ohgaman defeats Mushi Otome, and the pair join to defeat Yabai Kamen. After the two heroes give some parting words, Shaberryman appears to close things.
Drawing I did based on a tabletop session...but also because I’ve been to the place they’ve gone irl, and wanna go back sometime ;o;)c
