To the anon who wanted a selfie 🗡
In Christmastown, peppermint was much more than a mediocre candy you could buy in bulk for $5. While the candies we have here use a plant to get a minty flavor, our peppermint actually got its kick from a mineral of the same name.
Now, as much as I'd love to imagine red and white swirly bits of rock dusting the inside of every cave, I know that wasn't true. The "peppermint" was a white mineral found in caves with no proper name, similar to salt (this ties in with Yukon's peppermint mine dialogue, though the mines were far from town). It was called peppermint because it had a similar flavor: spicy, yet cold. On its own, it tasted very bitter, but when added to specially made candy, it was wonderful.
I love the equivalent you can get here, but it always felt a bit off, like it was missing something that would make it perfect. Of course, I don't know what that is besides the mineral itself(reindeer couldn't work in the kitchen), but I know it isn't the same. I don't think the kind the elves made had that weird taste you get after eating one for more than 2 minutes. It had more of a freshness to it, unlike the overly sweet hard candies I've had here. (I know some mints and gums achieve similar freshness, but they never taste right. They don't have enough of that strange hot/cold mix or subtle sweetness)
I can't remember much else about peppermint, so I have to consider a few possibilities:
It was probably a pretty significant aspect of the town's culture.
I'm not sure if the candy was based on "human peppermint" or vice-versa. (Human contact was very rare outside of Christmas Eve, and it was only with those who wouldn't share evidence that we existed)
It may have had caffeine (could explain why it was a little addicting)
It was probably given out to humans on occasion with their presents.
It was used in many treats and desserts, and the unsweetened mineral may have been used in small amounts to add a bit of flavor to other dishes.
Santa probably had an unhealthy amount of it while working to "destress", considering that he was pretty moody sometimes (I say pretty moody, but he kinda disqualified me from the team when I was literally like an hour old so)
i've decided that i don't want snow unless bokuto specifically is dragging me outside like an excited little puppy to make snow angels n build snow people n have snowball fights <3
its crazy how people say the celebrities i look like most are will poulter and bill skarsgård. and they look nothing alike. but for both it’s constantly debated online whether they are extremely attractive or ugly
