So in Sydney we just got a whole ass thunderstorm (woo!)
Because of all that has happened within the time that we didn’t get rain, everything that is dead (carcusses, dead flora, debris) has been washed into our riverways, killing the fish within it. This water is also heading for our dams, in particular the Warragamba Dam located in Sydney’s West so they’re putting nets around the walls as an attempt to prevent the bad water coming inside to affect a lot of people’s water sources.
When I painted this the air was thick with smoke, it was well over 35°c and my thoughts were on nothing but the Australian fires. I painted this 3 days ago and our situation has gotten nothing but worse. I’m constantly being updated by the fire apps/news, I was just notified that two massive fires have merged between nsw and vic. I’m stressing for my friends and family who are currently in these fires, for the people I don’t know, for the animals who can’t make it out. I’m concerned about how this will further damage our country and how much more we’ll lose. Yet even so, I’m so proud and greatful towards everyone who’s fighting against these fires. Thankyou so much to everyone who’s going the extra mile to make sure we will get through this. Thankyou so much to our brave firefighters who’ve given up so much. Not much more I can do on the side lines, so please let you all hear me and so many more Australians (including animals) say Thankyou!
I appreciate the international support on the Australian bush fire situation over the last week, but some of you REALLY need to stop saying stuff suggesting that this has only been an issue since New Year’s, because that happens to be when you first heard about it
We have not been terrified and monitoring fire conditions since September for y'all to act like this appeared out of nowhere a week ago
I appreciate that many of you didn’t know, and am super thankful for the kind donations, but knock it off
I’m so glad I’m in one of the safest parts of the East Coast of Australia right now. The fires have barely touched my area. My heart goes out to everyone in majorly affected areas, particularly those in NSW and Victoria. So many people have lost their lives, too many people, and so many of our native wildlife have lost their lives as well. Hundreds upon hundred are losing their homes, whole small towns are being lost and the air quality in Canberra is the worst in the world. The sky is orange, it looks like the end of the world.
Please, if you can, donate to the Red Cross, donate to the RSPCA for the wildlife, donate to local fire services, donate where you can or if you can. We are in the middle of a crisis that has been going on for around three months now. It’s devastating for everyone and it’s a national heartbreak for those lost or affected.
This is the worst in my lifetime, and it’s only getting worse.
THE WHOLE COUNTRY OF AUSTRALIA IS BURNING AND IT’S JUST GETTING WORSE - AND SCOTT MORRISON IS NOW THE MOST HATED MAN IN THE COUNTRY
Can we please reblog the hell out of this???? Please????
Our firefighters are enraged and rightly so, but they are also exhausted and so so tired of Morrison and his party’s bullshit.
He’s so bad, people are even saying that the notoriously homophobic and notoriously bad past prime minister Tony Abbott would be better than Morrison. If you know anything about Abbott then you know that’s saying something.
Firefighters are now actually swearing at the cameras telling Morrison off in no uncertain terms. They are suffering vicarious trauma from watching homes, native wildlife and human lives being lost to the blaze again and again despite their incredible efforts to stop it, and continuing to go out and risk their lives, UNPAID, to save ours.
Some of our leaders are taking action, at least. Anthony Albanese is supporting and feeding firefighters with his own money, and even said incompetent bigoted dickhead Tony Abbott is getting off his arse and DOING SOMETHING about it.
Watch the video for more details, but be warned, while not displaying any graphic deaths or injuries, this video is extremely upsetting and shows extreme rage and pain in both victims of the public and the firefighters battling the blazes (many of whom have themselves lost homes, loved ones, and other firefighters to this horrific disaster).
Please try to watch it if you are able to. Please share it on as many platforms as possible. You want to help Australia but can’t donate? Totally understandable. BUT PLEASE SHARE THIS VIDEO.
I will be sharing to all my more popular sideblogs as well, regardless of what they are supposed to be about, because it needs attention. It needs to reach people. The government has already made a few attempts at keeping the media away from and stopping them from interviewing surviving victims of this devastating, deadly countrywide disaster. We need to get this out. For the firefighters on the front lines who need to be seen and heard and supported, if not for anyone else.
