William Heinesen (Jan. 15, 1900 - 1991) was a Faroese writer and artist. He is considered the greatest capturer of Faroese culture and mythology, but since he wrote in Danish he did not wish to be considered for a Nobel Prize as he felt that would detract from the stature of the Faroese language.
He also painted, mainly pastels, and became a master of the art of paper cutting when in his 70s and no longer able to get around the islands to do plein air landscapes. His cuttings masterfully capture the figures and sceneries of Faroese folk beliefs and Norse myths.
Above is also a translation I’ve done of parts of a poem of his, from his last collection of poetry, titled Panorama with Rainbow, 1972
